Insomnia Behavioral Intervention Study

Study Overview

This clinical trial focuses on testing the efficacy of different digital interventions to promote re-engagement in cancer-related long-term follow-up care for adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors of childhood cancer.

Description

This randomized pilot study (n=20) explores the effects of a behavioral intervention, that includes sleep hygiene improvements, in long-term users of sleeping pills, aiming to alleviate or stabilize symptoms of insomnia, monitor and decrease sleeping pill usage. Adherence will be monitored by an optional smartphone application.

Participation Criteria

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria. Some examples of these criteria are a person's general health condition or prior treatments.

Ages Eligible for Study:55 Years to 85 Years
Sexes Eligible for Study:ALL
Accepts Healthy Volunteers:No
Standard Ages:ADULT, OLDER_ADULT
Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * Age of 55-85
  2. * Use of sleeping pill medication for sleep at least 3 nights a week
  3. * Diagnosed with Chronic Insomnia by a physician
  4. * Speaks English above a 6th-grade level
  5. * Has access to a smartphone and/or smart tablet and can use it
  6. * Has regular access to internet
  1. * Presence of major depression or other severe psychopathology (e.g., bipolar disorder, psychosis, alcohol/substance abuse, etc.)
  2. * Presence of an acute or severe medical condition which, in the opinion of the research team, would interfere with the study participant's ability to participate in the research study, such as an acute heart attack, recent severe trauma, etc.
