This study aims to evaluate the specific and non-specific effects of hypnotherapy and to evaluate the efficacy of group-format gut-directed hypnotherapy (GDH) delivered via telehealth for managing gastrointestinal health.

Participation Criteria

Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * 18 years or older
  2. * Self reported gastrointestinal symptoms consistent with disorders of gut-brain interaction
  3. * English speaking
  4. * Willingness to participate in all hypnotherapy sessions \& complete all pre- and post-session surveys
  1. * Under 18 years
  2. * Pregnant women
  3. * Prisoners
  4. * Children
  5. * Individuals with active or a history of severe mental illness (e.g. active psychosis, dissociative disorders)
  6. * A hypnotic susceptibility score in the low range (SHSS; total = 0-3)
