4 Clinical Trials for Various Conditions
Within the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) medical space, a relatively small number of patients follow through with elective surgeries to fix ailments like a deviated septum or occluded sinus passage. Patient understanding of their diagnosis and treatment plan is integral to compliance, which ultimately yields improved medical outcomes and better quality of life. Here the investigators report the usage of advanced inkjet 3D printing methods to develop a multimaterial replica of the patient's nasal sinus anatomy, derived from clinical X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) data. The final patient education model was developed over several iterations to optimize material properties, anatomical accuracy and overall display. A two arm, single center, randomized, prospective study was then performed in which 50 ENT surgical candidates (and an associated control group, n = 50) were given an explanation of their anatomy, disease state, and treatment options using the education model as an aid. Each patient was then surveyed for their self-rated understanding of their anatomy, disease, and treatment options.
Pathological Conditions, Anatomical, Deviated Nasal Septum
Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type II (MPS II; Hunter syndrome) is a rare, X-linked disease caused by a deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase (I2S) and occurs almost exclusively in boys, with an incidence of approximately 1.3 per 100,000 live male births.1 Early identification of MPS II is challenging because some initial features, such as chronic runny nose, otitis media, and hernias, are commonly seen in the general population. As a result, even though the signs and symptoms of MPS II typically appear early in childhood, the diagnosis may lag behind by several years. The primary objective of this international multi-center study is to evaluate the positive screening rate of MPS II subjects by screening a high-risk male pediatric population who have had or are scheduled for 1 or more specific ENT surgical procedures (adenoidectomy and/or tonsillectomy and/or tympanostomy) and who have a previously repaired or present evidence of an inguinal and/or umbilical hernia.

Patients Undergoing ENT Surgery With Cuffed ETT
The purpose of the study is to evaluate different methods of pre-anesthesia consultation, with the aim of improving the day of surgery experience for the patient. In this study, we will use a telephone consultation, an in-person consultation, and a telemedicine consultation, which involves television cameras and monitors that allow live two-way communication for the pre-anesthesia consultation. The reason for this study is to evaluate the use of telemedicine for the pre-anesthesia consultation. Patients and anesthesiologists have been highly satisfied in previous studies using pre-anesthesia telemedicine consultation. In this study, we will examine a larger group of patients, as previous studies have studied smaller groups of patients.
