Evaluation of N-SWEAT Patch for Treatment of Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis or Excessive Axillary Sweating
Description

The Sahara Study is a study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the N-SWEAT Patch for use in subjects with excessive axillary sweating, or primary focal axillary hyperhidrosis.

A Study of the Ulthera® System for the Treatment of Axillary Hyperhidrosis
Description

This is a prospective, multi-center, randomized, double-blinded study. Subjects enrolled will be randomly assigned to receive either active treatments for axillary hyperhidrosis with the Ulthera System in both axillas, or sham treatments, also with the Ulthera System but with the energy settings on the device set to deliver no ultrasound energy. Subjects will be randomized in a 2:1 ratio, with 2 subjects randomized to active treatment for every one subject randomized to sham treatment. Subjects will receive 2 study treatments 30 days apart. Subjects and study personnel conducting efficacy measures will be blinded to the assigned treatment groups. The study hypothesis is that subjects in the active treatment group will have a greater reduction in underarm sweating compared to those in the sham group as measured by a quality of life questionnaire. All subjects will undergo follow-up assessments at 14 days and 30 days from the date of their first study treatment, and 14 days, 30 days, 3 months and 6 months from the date of their second study treatment. Subjects in the active treatment group will also undergo follow-up assessments at 9 months and 12 months from the date of their second study treatment.

Excessive Sweating Caused by Antidepressants: Measurement and Treatment With Glycopyrrolate (AIDES-G)
Description

The study consists of measurement of antidepressant-induced excessive sweating and its treatment with an experimental medication, glycopyrrolate (approved to treat ulcers), which will be added to the antidepressant. This is an open-label study (no placebo group or concealment of the nature of the treatment) that will last 8 weeks, including two weeks of baseline measurement without treatment with the study medication followed by six weeks of treatment with the study medication. The study is pilot study by Dr. Rajnish Mago that is based on the hypothesis that glycopyrrolate will be effective in reducing the severity of excessive sweating caused by antidepressant treatment, and will have minimal side-effects.

Botox and Suction-Curettage for Treatment of Excessive Underarm Sweating (Axillary Hyperhidrosis)
Description

The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two methods in the treatment of excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis): suction-curettage and Botox injections. Suction-curettage is a method in which the doctor will insert a suction tool into two small incisions in order to suction out the sweat-producing glands. It is similar to liposuction, but instead of suctioning out fat, the doctor suctions out the layer of the deep skin where the sweat glands are located. This method has been shown in some studies to effectively reduce underarm sweating for months at a time. Botox is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug that in small doses, paralyses muscles. It is most commonly and famously used in the treatment of facial wrinkles. However, it has also been approved to treat excessive sweating. When injected in areas that sweat excessively, sweating can be significantly reduced in that area for months at a time. This study is a pilot study designed to determine feasibility of these procedures.

Excessive Sweating Caused by Antidepressants: Measurement and Treatment With Terazosin
Description

The study consists of measurement of antidepressant-induced excessive sweating and its treatment with an experimental medication, terazosin (approved for hypertension), that will be added to the antidepressant. This study is for people who take an antidepressant due to a depressive disorder. This is an open-label study (no placebo group) that will last 5 weeks, with one week of baseline measurement and four weeks of treatment with the study medication. The study is based on the hypothesis that terazosin will be effective in reducing the severity of excessive sweating caused by antidepressant treatment, and will have minimal side-effects.

Hyperhidrosis, Developing a Treatment Approach Aims 1 & 2
Description

The objective is to establish an evidence base for a hyperhidrosis treatment algorithm in amputees. This project will address a problem that has troubled Service members, Veterans, and civilians with amputations for decades, impacting satisfaction with prosthetic use, residual limb skin health, and negatively affecting quality of life. Prior research in this area has been limited and insufficient. The Investigators are confident that improving the evaluation and treatment of residual limb hyperhidrosis will reduce the secondary health consequences of amputation and will lead to improved quality of life. This will be accomplish by completing the following specific aims. Aim 1: Test the validity of the Minor iodine-starch test in amputees. Hypothesis: The iodine-starch test is a valid diagnostic tool of hyperhidrosis and can be useful for the identification of focal areas of sweating on a residual limb Aim 2: Test the effectiveness of a prescription strength topical antiperspirant (Aluminum Chloride 20%) on hyperhidrosis of the residual limb. Hypothesis: Aluminum Chloride will be more effective at controlling sweating than placebo

Hyperhidrosis in Patients With Amputations-Botox
Description

The objective is to establish and evidence base for hyperhidrosis treatment algorithm in amputees.This project will address a problem that has troubled Service members, Veterans, and civilians with amputations for decades, impacting satisfaction with prosthetic use, residual limb skin health, and negatively affecting quality of life. Prior research in this area has been limited and insufficient. We plan to conduct an open label study of Botox, up to 400 units, to treat limb hyperhidrosis in patients with amputations. The actual dose of Botox used will be based on individual results with the Iodine-Starch test to identify areas on the residual limb that are producing excessive sweat. Botulinum Toxin A (BTX-A): Botulinum toxin therapy is well-established for use in excessive sweating of several body areas (axillary, palmar, plantar, and facial) in individuals with hyperhidrosis and inadequate response to topical treatments. Extensive research has been conducted on the efficacy and safety of BTX-A for hyperhidrosis of other areas, and it has been shown to improve both objective and subjective measures of sweating, and lead to improved quality of life measures. This will be accomplished by completing the following: Test the validity of the Minor iodine-starch test in amputees. 1. Hypothesis: The iodine-starch test is a valid diagnostic tool of hyperhidrosis and can be useful for the identification of focal areas of sweating on a residual limb. 2. Treat the residual limb Hyperhidrosis with Botox, up to and limited to 400 units. Hypothesis: Treatment of residual limb Hyperhidrosis with Botox will result in improved patient reports of excessive sweating as measured by the HDSS and as measured by subjects' response to iodine-starch testing. We are confident that improving the evaluation and treatment of residual limb hyperhidrosis will reduce the secondary health consequences of amputation and will lead to improved quality of life.

The Use of Microneedles With Topical Botulinum Toxin for Treatment of Palmar Hyperhidrosis
Description

Hyperhidrosis or sweating of palms results from the overactivity of sweat glands and leads to psychosocial impairment with reduction in quality of life in those that are affected. Injection of botulinum toxin has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of hyperhidrosis with associated improvement in quality of life, but is usually very painful. Microneedles are a different modality for transdermal drug penetration without the pain. This study aims to understand if botulinum toxin A can be delivered topically after microneedle pretreatment in hopes of developing a minimally painful treatment protocol for treatment of palmar hyperhidrosis.

Management of Palmar Hyperhidrosis With Hydrogel-based Iontophoresis
Description

This study will evaluate the use of hydrogel electrode pads (rather than tap water baths) to deliver iontophoresis treatment using a traditional iontophoresis device. Participants will treat one hand with the hydrogel-based iontophoresis device and leave the other hand untreated.

Feasibility Study: Ulthera® System for the Treatment of Axillary Hyperhidrosis
Description

Single-center, randomized, split-body, pilot study, treatment of up to 23 subjects in two treatment groups. Subjects will receive two Ultherapy treatments at Day 0 with follow-ups at 7 and 14 days post-treatment #1, and Day 28 with follow-ups are 7, 14, 30, 60, 90 days post-treatment #2.

Feasibility Study: Safety and Efficacy of the Ulthera® System for Treatment of Axillary Hyperhidrosis
Description

Up to 20 subjects will be treated. Subjects will receive two (2) bilateral Ultherapy™ or Sham treatments of the axilla. The study hypothesis is that subjects who receive Ultherapy™ treatment will have a greater reduction in axillary sweating compared to subjects receiving Sham treatments. Follow-up visits will occur at 7 and 14 days following treatment #1, and at 7, 14, 30, 60 and 90 days following treatment #2. At each follow-up visit, assessments will be completed to compare the amount of axillary sweating compared to baseline.

Histological Analysis Following Ulthera System Treatment for Hyperhidrosis
Description

Up to 60 subjects will be enrolled into one of five treatment groups. Subjects enrolled in Groups A, B or C will undergo axillary punch biopsies during the course of the trial to determine the number and depth of the sweat glands, and receive dual depth treatments (4.5mm and 3.0mm); either two bilateral Ultherapy™ treatments to the axillas 30 days apart (Groups A and B) or one bilateral Ultherapy™ treatment (Group C). Subjects in Groups D and E will receive two bilateral Ultherapy™ treatments to the axillas 30 days apart at a 2.0mm treatment depth and two different energy settings (Group D at 0.45 J, Group E at 0.30 J). Protocol amended (Sept 2014): Subjects in Groups D and E will receive treatments at the same energy setting (0.30J) and two treatment densities: Group D, 60 lines/treatment square; Group E, 40 lines per treatment square. Follow-up visits will occur at 7, 30, 90 and 180 days post-treatment #2.

Qbrexza Cloths for Hyperhidrosis of Amputation Sites
Description

This is a Prospective, Double Blinded, Placebo Controlled, Randomized, Cross-over trial using Qbrexza Cloths to treat hyperhidrosis of amputation sites. There is a 2 week screening period where patients will use an activity monitor to establish baseline activity level, then patients will be randomized to receive either Qbrexza cloths or placebo for 4 weeks, then a 2 week washout, and then a 4-week cross-over treatment period.

Clinical Study to Assess the Efficacy and Safety of AT-5214 in the Treatment of Subjects With Palmar Hyperhidrosis
Description

This is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group comparison study of AT-5214 in subjects with moderate to severe primary palmar hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms). This study will compare two different oral (tablet) doses of AT-5214 (study drug) versus a matched placebo. Approximately 120 subjects will be enrolled at approximately 10 study sites.

Image Guided Targeted Photoablation for the Treatment of Localized Hyperhidrosis
Description

Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which sweating is in excess of that required for normal regulation of body temperature. Commonly affected areas in primary hyperhidrosis include axillae, palms and soles. Secondary hyperhidrosis can affect scalp, face, neck, back, groin and legs. Hyperhidrosis can negatively impact, employment, relationships, or other aspects of quality of life. The investigators propose to investigate the use of a unique image-guided laser to specifically ablate eccrine sweat glands.

Hyperhidrosis is a disorder of abnormal excessive sweating. Primary hyperhidrosis (armpits, hands, and feet) affects approximately 4.8% of the US population and is believed to be caused by an overactive cholinergic response of the sweat glands. Current therapies have limited effectiveness, significant side effects, and can be invasive and costly. Sofpironium bromide (BBI-4000) is a novel soft-drug in development for the topical treatment of hyperhidrosis. This Phase 3 study will assess the safety and efficacy of sofpironium bromide, 15% gel versus vehicle (2 treatment arms), applied for the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis.

Assessing the Effect of Patient Characteristics on Treatment Response in Primary Hyperhidrosis
Description

This study will describe the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in clinical practice and explore the effect of patient characteristics on treatment response. This study will follow 200 people with hyperhidrosis over 18 months. Anyone with primary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating not due to another medical condition) over the age of 12 may participate. Study participants will have multiple office visits during which they will asked to rate the severity of their sweat production in multiple areas (i.e. underarms, hands, feet), answer a questionnaire regarding their disease and treatment, and undergo a non-invasive measurement of sweat production called gravimetry. Gravimetry is performed by placing absorbent material in an area, such as the underarms, for a set amount of time and then measuring the amount of sweat collected. In between clinic visits, study participants will be contacted electronically to answer several questions regarding their disease and treatment.

A Study to Evaluate Clinical Effect, Pharmacokinetics , Safety, and Tolerability of Umeclidinium in Palmar Hyperhidrosis Subjects
Description

Umeclidinium (UMEC) is a potent pan-active long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA). It is anticipated that topical administration of UMEC will block stimulation of muscarinic receptors, thereby reducing the overproduction of sweat in subjects who suffer from hyperhidrosis. This study will assess the clinical effect, pharmacokinetics, safety and tolerability of topically applied UMEC following once daily topical administration, for 28 days, to the palms, in subjects with primary palmar hyperhidrosis. The study will also investigate if topically applied UMEC, at the highest possible concentration, will decrease palmar hyperhidrosis with a systemic anticholinergic adverse event profile similar to or below that observed with inhaled administration. This is a double blind (Sponsor unblind), repeat dose, randomized, parallel group, placebo controlled study. Study will enrol up to 55 subjects.
