This study will investigate the efficacy of a mushroom blend to improve gastrointestinal symptoms and mood. It will also be determining if the mushroom blend has an effect on the gut microbiome and metabolomics.

The objective of this study is to assess self-reported gastrointestinal (GI) responses to three snack bars containing fiber/fiber blends vs. a control snack bar for 7 days each in adults using GLP-1 agonists.
This study will be conducted to determine the effect of daily Tetrasol consumption in supporting gut health using assessments of gastrointestinal symptoms (GSRS) and bowel habits (BSS) as primary outcome measures. The investigators also intend to explore fecal and blood biomarkers of intestinal permeability/function, determination of anxiety and stress levels through both validated assessments and saliva and blood biomarkers, establishment of intervention safety and tolerability through comprehensive metabolic panels and overall compliance, explore the effects of the intervention on inflammation and acute stress (Cold Presser Test), blood lipid profiles, and gut microbiota composition as secondary outcomes.
Many veterans with Gulf War Illness developed chronic gastrointestinal symptoms during their deployment to the Persian Gulf. The pathophysiologic mechanisms of these chronic gastrointestinal symptoms are not well understood but cause significant morbidity in veterans. Our proposed studies will provide an innovative and novel treatment trial for chronic gastrointestinal symptoms in veterans with Gulf War Illness that were deployed into war zones. Given that there are currently no specific treatments for these disorders, and that current symptomatic approaches are far from ideal, proof of principle of our trial would be an extremely important advance as it would not only have a beneficial impact on the health of many thousands of our veterans, but also it would substantially reduce the many negative economic effects of this ailment on the VA Health Care System.
This protocol is a blinded randomized controlled study of the effects of BB-12 with LGG at different doses in 70 healthy children with autism spectrum disorders at lower and higher doses over an 56-day period and a 28- day observation period. The study is being conducted in order to assess safety and tolerability of the probiotic (BB-12 with LGG) at 2 different doses of BB-12 with LGG. Identifying effects on behaviors in healthy children with ASD using SRS-2 and ABC, GI symptoms using GI symptom severity index, and relevant biomarkers of inflammation, microbiota, and metabolites. Primary testing and procedures will be conducted at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Memorial Hermann. Biomarker identification includes Integrative analysis of plasma metabolome and stool microbiota will be conducted with the collaboration of Dr. Ruth Ann Luna and Dr. Jim Versalovic at Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research, Department of Molecular Virology \& Microbiology of Baylor College of Medicine.
The aim of this study is to determine how regular consumption of Synbiotic+, a dietary supplement that contains prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics, impacts functional gastrointestinal health, markers of intestinal inflammation and immune health, and influences mood and behavior. The primary outcome will be to assess gastrointestinal health using bowel movement tracking, self-report and objective assessments of gastrointestinal symptom severity, stool levels of short chain fatty acids, changes in the gut microbiota, including recovery of LGG and BB-12, and functional measures of the microbiome. Secondary outcomes will include stool and blood markers of gut barrier function and intestinal inflammation, immune health, and self-assessments of stress, anxiety, sleep, and quality of life.
The main objective of the proposed study is to evaluate if oral intake of EN formula preceding Gtube placement will impact tolerance upon placement and feeding via Gtube in pALS. This single arm intervention study all participants will receive the intervention and researchers will utilize validated indicators combined with clinical expertise to assess gastrointestinal symptoms of feeding intolerance before and after the intervention. The main questions this study aims to answer are: 1. Wil participants meeting a greater percentage of their estimated nutritional needs at baseline present a slower disease progression rate and a lower incidence of GI symptoms of feeding intolerance when feeding via Gtube? 2. Will there be significant change in feeding intolerance when oral intake of enteral nutrition formula precedes feeding via Gtube? This proposed study consists of three stages, as follows: 1. Pre-Intervention: The lead in period of one-week preceding intervention phase I will be timed to initiate 3 weeks before the scheduled Gtube placement procedure. Patients will be advised to maintain their usual food and beverage intake. Dietary intake and GI symptoms data will be collected by research personnel. 2. Phase I: Dietary intake data collected from the pre-intervention stage will be averaged and used to determine the number of cartons of enteral nutrition formula needed to meet the participants estimated nutritional needs. For two weeks +- 2 days participants will be directed to drink the number of cartons of a pre-selected enteral nutrition formula to meet their estimated nutritional needs when combined to their current oral dietary intake. A plant based EN formula (Kate Farms 1.4 Standard) commonly prescribed for pALS was selected to be provided to all patients in the study to keep this variable constant. Weekly data collection of dietary intake and GI symptoms will be ongoing. 3. Phase II: At the end of phase I, patients will undergo a Gtube placement at their selected medical facility. For the following two weeks +- 2 days participants will be directed to feed via Gtube the same number of cartons of the enteral nutrition formula used orally on phase I and make no changes to their current oral intake.
