This clinical trial tests how well different types of massage therapy works to reduce anxiety during chemotherapy infusions in patients with cancer. Many cancer patients experience moderate to severe anxiety and anxiety can worsen by the anticipation of medical procedures that patients have to receive, particularly chemotherapy. Massage therapy, as a complementary treatment, has shown promise in lessening both physical and psychological symptoms associated with cancer and its treatments. Research has also shown the benefits of massage therapy in reducing pain, stress, anxiety, nausea (upset stomach), fatigue (tiredness), and depression in cancer patients. Different types of massage therapy may potentially reduce some cancer patients' symptoms, enhance their treatment, and reduce treatment related side effects.
This clinical trial studies how well a virtual community health educator (vCHE) works in increasing clinical trial referrals for patients with cancer and their caregivers. Low enrollment of underrepresented and underserved populations in cancer clinical trials has led to disparities in intervention development and implementation. One approach to recruiting diverse populations to cancer clinical trials is community health educators. However, community health educator interventions are costly and difficult to implement. vCHEs are photo-realistic virtual agents that provide personalized guidance and support to users. They are designed to mimic real-life community health workers, offering culturally and linguistically tailored information to users. They can communicate in English or Spanish and are available in diverse genders and racial/ethnic backgrounds. vCHEs may be able to increase the enrollment of diverse participants into cancer clinical trials.
This clinical trial tests how well aromatherapy essential oils work to manage anxiety and nausea in cancer patients receiving infusions in the ambulatory setting. Current drugs that are given for nausea may cause constipation and fatigue. Therefore, there is interest in exploring complementary therapies, like aromatherapy, that do not carry the same side effects. Using aromatherapy essential oils such as ginger, peppermint, and lavender, may help reduce nausea and anxiety. Some studies have shown significant reductions in nausea and anxiety among cancer patients using these oils, while other studies have had mixed results. Ginger and peppermint oils, in particular, have been associated with helping reduce nausea during chemotherapy, while lavender has shown potential benefits for anxiety. Jojoba oil will be used as a placebo for this research study. Jojoba oil is extracted from the seeds of a jojoba plant, which is a green shrub that is found in the southwestern United States). Jojoba oil is an oil which has no color or smell. Aromatherapy essential oils used through a personal inhalation device during chemotherapy may better manage anxiety and nausea in cancer patients receiving infusions in the ambulatory setting.
This clinical trial tests how well guided meditation, compared to silence, works to reduce pre-operative anxiety in patients undergoing cancer-directed surgery. Pre-operative anxiety affects patient experience and has been found to be a predictor of severe post-operative pain and chronic pain after surgery, influencing the success and quality of a patient's recovery. While medication is often prescribed to improve anxiety symptoms, research has showed that mindfulness techniques can be used to decrease anxiety, improve comfort, and can impact both psychological and physiologic symptoms. Completing pre-operative guided meditation may work well to reduce pre-operative anxiety in patients undergoing cancer directive surgery.
This clinical trial evaluates the how well a virtually delivered solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT-C) works to decrease adolescent and young adult cancer survivors' psychological distress in comparison to enhanced treatment-as-usual care. Cancer and its treatment can have immediate and long-term impacts on adolescent and young adult cancer survivor's lives, including education and employment, financial stability, sexual health, and social, romantic, and family relationships. Consequently, many adolescent and young adult cancer survivors report psychological distress, often manifesting as depression and anxiety, and may benefit from psychotherapy to improve their engagement with medical treatment and overall quality of life. SFBT-C is a theory-driven and brief hope-based psychotherapy designed for the unique psychosocial needs facing adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. Undergoing SFBT-C may work better than treatment-as-usual care for the support of psychological distress in adolescent and young adult cancer survivors.

This phase II trial tests how well remdesivir works for treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection of the upper respiratory tract in patients receiving cellular or bispecific antibody therapy. Cellular or bispecific antibody therapies cause suppression of the immune system, making infections more frequent and reducing the body's ability to fight the infections. RSV infections are one of the most common respiratory infections in immunocompromised individuals and can cause significant pneumonia and even death. Remdesivir is in a class of medications called antivirals. It works by stopping viruses from spreading in the body.
This clinical trial compares the use of virtual reality to standard care for improving symptom management in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Significant symptoms experienced by hospitalized HSCT patients include, but are not limited to, depression, tiredness, anxiety, drowsiness, lack of appetite, pain, and overall decreased quality of life and well-being. Virtual reality (VR) as an intervention can provide these patients with a much-needed escape from their reality and has proven results in clinical settings as a distraction therapy. VR technology targets the patient's auditory, visual, and physical contact/touch senses, and has been evidenced to improve depression, fatigue, anxiety, appetite, and pain. Virtual reality may improve symptom management in patients undergoing HSCT.
This clinicaI trial is being done to determine if acupressure is helpful to reduce anxiety related to chemotherapy, compared with "sham" (or placebo) acupressure in patients with cancer. Anxiety, experienced by many patients with cancer, can be related to chemotherapy and may contribute to other symptoms, such as nausea and poor quality of life. Some patients diagnosed with cancer express interest in non-medicine ways to manage symptoms. Acupressure is the application of non-invasive finger pressure along energy points throughout the body in order to relieve pain and induce a feeling of well-being. Previous research has shown that acupressure can help both adults and children with their anxiety in certain situations, such as after surgery. Patients can be taught how to do the acupressure on themselves, making this an intervention that can be done anywhere. Acupressure is well tolerated with minimal reports of adverse reactions. Undergoing acupressure may be effective in reducing anxiety in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.
This clinical trial assesses whether resource identification for primary caregivers can affect financial stress, quality of life, depression, and the general belief in the ability to cope with daily life. Caregivers of patients receiving cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CS+HIPEC) demonstrate that they endure high depressive symptom burdens and financial distress. Further, they experience symptom trajectories that differ from those of patients. In short, they require differential timing of supportive interventions. This study aims to reduce financial toxicity and distress levels and to increase self-efficacy, satisfaction and engagement with care. Information gathered from this study may help researchers determine whether telehealth interventions for caregivers may increase awareness of recommended resources that could be beneficial during caregivers journey.
