Glu-COACH: a Peer-mentoring Intervention to Reduce Disparities in Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) Use

Connecticut · New Haven, CT

This is a study to develop and evaluate a peer mentoring intervention for Black and Latinx adolescents with type 1 diabetes to increase the initiation and maintenance of a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device. This device is a standard of care to improve diabetes management related to diet, exercise, and insulin. Use of CGM has been shown to improve health outcomes, but is not used by adolescents of color. Peer mentors may help improve usage.

Mentoring to be Active for Rural Appalachia Children

The innovative MPBA+F begins with peer-to-peer mentoring followed by structured parental/family support for long-term reinforcement of PA behaviors. Building and reinforcing skills, MPBA+F mitigates resource stressors and strengthens protective factors by providing culturally appropriate knowledge and skills to improve the sustainability of physical activity at home without the use of exercise equipment. By strengthening social support through peer and friendship networks and family-based support, MPBA+F responds to the unique needs of rural Appalachians in a culturally responsive way. This study targets physical activity among children with overweight, obesity, or extreme obesity because rural Appalachian communities identify sedentary activity as a key contributor to the high rates of obesity and diabetes risk among youth.

Choosing Wisely: De-implementing Fall Prevention Alarms in Hospitals

This is a Hybrid II de-implementation study to reduce use of fall prevention alarms in hospitals. The intervention consists of tailored, site-specific approaches for three core implementation strategies: education, audit/feedback and opinion leaders. Hospital units will be randomized to low-intensity or high-intensity coaching for the implementation of the tailored strategies.

Minority Barriers in Anesthesia

The investigators aim to survey members of the ASA (medical students, residents, and attendings) who self-identify as minorities to assess if there are systemic barriers to minorities pursuing leadership positions. The investigators hypothesize that structural issues such as a lack of formalized mentoring programs play a role in reduced minority professional advancement.

Study of Mental Health and Relationships

Illinois · Chicago, IL

The goal of this clinical trial is to test effects of the Great Life Mentoring (GLM) program on the mental health and adaptive functioning on school-age youth (ages 9-16) from low-income families who are receiving outpatient mental health services. The main questions it aims to answer are: • Does participation in the GLM program improve mental health and related outcomes among school-age youth (9- to 16-years-old) from low-income families as an adjunct to outpatient mental health services? 180 youth will be enrolled in the study and assigned randomly to either continue mental health services as usual (SAU) or to continue mental health services while also participating in GLM (SAU+GLM). Participating youth, and their parent/guardians and therapists, will be surveyed annually. Mental health services records also will be obtained with appropriate permissions. . Researchers will compare the SAU and SAU+GLM groups to see if participation in GLM has an effect on the mental health and related outcomes of study youth.

High-Risk Veteran Initiative

Veterans at high-risk for hospitalization, including those with complex care needs, represent a large population of VHA patients who often do not receive evidence-based primary care practices that would help them avoid the hospital and improve their health. The high-RIsk VETerans (RIVET) Program will implement evidence-based practices that can support VHA Primary Care teams to deliver more comprehensive and patient-centered care, better strategies to manage medications, and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations. The RIVET Program is designed to find the most effective approaches to increasing use of evidence-based practices for high-risk Veterans in primary care, provide rapid data feedback to VHA on high-risk patient care, build capacity for the implementation of evidence-based practices, and train future leaders in high-risk Veteran care.
