Father-Inclusive Parenting Intervention in Mwanza, Tanzania

This cluster-randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the impact of a couples-based parenting program, "Familia Bora," on mothers' and fathers' parenting, couples' relationships, gender, and early child development in the Mwanza Region, Tanzania. Additionally, this study aims to assess the program's implementation and identify factors influencing its quality and effectiveness. Trained community health workers will deliver the program by facilitating weekly peer group sessions in their villages. Twelve couples with a child under two years old will be enrolled in each village. The program will cover various topics, including responsive caregiving, positive discipline, stress management, healthy couples' communication, nutrition, and gender.

A Positive Food Parenting Intervention to Promote Healthy Growth in Children at Risk for Obesity

This study is the pilot of a 12 - week positive food parenting intervention focused on structure-based and autonomy promoting practices. The intervention aims to give parents the tools to promote healthy child growth and improve diet quality. The investigators are piloting to assess feasibility and efficacy of the intervention through examining participant retention, impact on parent feeding practices, and impact on parent and child diet quality.

I-InTERACT Preterm Parenting

Many children born very preterm experience behavior problems, and existing resources for parenting these children are lacking. A pilot trial established the effectiveness of a preterm parenting intervention, I-Interact Preterm (I2P). This study proposes a three-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing the established seven-session I2P program, a microlearning delivery mode (I2P-Micro), and an internet resource comparison group (IRC). Outcomes will be assessed at pretreatment, post-treatment (12 weeks later), and at an extended follow-up six months post-randomization. These outcomes include parenting behaviors, child behavior problems, and parent distress. It is anticipated that both I2P and I2P-Micro will result in significant improvements relative to the IRC condition, with greater utilization expected in the I2P-Micro group.

Evaluating Stress Management Strategies Within the School Readiness Parenting Program

The goal of this randomized study is to learn if adding three additional parent training sessions (focused on alleviating parental stress) to an already well-established treatment (School Readiness Parenting Program \[SRPP\]) in improving outcomes up to 6- and 12-months later for families of children with disruptive behavior disorders. The main questions it aims to answer are: The primary objective of this protocol is to evaluate the effects of three additional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) based parent training sessions to the SRPP to reduce parent stress and improve parent-child interactions. The secondary objective of this protocol is to evaluate the behavioral, emotional, and physical health-based functioning among young children with ADHD. Researchers will compare families who receive the SRPP alone to families who receive the SRPP + the three additional CBT focused sessions. Parents will be sent surveys to complete prior to the baseline assessment via REDCap (online). Parent and child participants will undergo 2 hours of baseline assessments evaluating behavioral, cognitive, and academic functioning as well as parent-child interactions. Parents will provide contact information for their child's teacher and the teacher will sent three surveys to complete online via REDCap.

Evaluation of the Parenting in the Moment Online Program for Forcibly Displaced Families

This Randomized Controlled Trial will test the effectiveness of the Parenting in the Moment (PIM) online parenting program for parents with experiences of forced displacement. The primary objective of this study is to conduct a summative (impact) evaluation of the PIM online parenting program as an in-home parent, skill-based program for parents of school-aged children, using a randomized controlled trial research design with community partnerships that inform the research throughout. The longer-term objectives are to build the evidence-base for in-home parent skill-based programs with strong empirical support (i.e., eligible for listing on the Families First Clearinghouse) and increase access to parenting programs for forcibly displaced families thereby improving child safety and wellbeing and strengthening their public health support. 720 families will be recruited with forced migration backgrounds and within 10 years of arrival in the USA; 360 families will be assigned to the PIMonline program and 360 to a family resource list only, wait-list control group. Families will be recruited using stratified random sampling within the four PIM language groups: English, Spanish, Arabic, French. Within each language, half the families will be assigned to the PIMonline intervention program and the other half will be assigned to receiving a Family Resource List with access to the PIMonline program once the study ends. One parent and one child per eligible family may participate. Data collection with participating families will take place at baseline (T1), 4-months after baseline (T2) and finally, 16 months after baseline (T3). Data collection includes caregiver online surveys, caregiver and child Zoom recorded Family Interaction Task conversations and interviewer administered child surveys for children aged 8-12 at each time point. Standardized, reliable and valid measures in the four languages will be used to assess change in outcomes through the surveys. Longitudinal growth curve analysis will be used to test PIM intervention effects. Our extensive dissemination plan involves nationwide community partners in child welfare and services to forcibly displaced families.

Parenting in 2 Worlds Multisite Trial

This research study will test the effectiveness of a culturally grounded parenting intervention called Parenting in 2 Worlds (P2W). This intervention is designed for American Indian / Alaska Native (AI) parents/guardians of adolescents who reside in urban areas. This will be a multi-regional effectiveness trial across four regions: Northeast (Buffalo/Niagara), Midwest (St. Paul/Minneapolis), Mountain (Denver), and Southwest (Phoenix). There are four specific aims. First, this study will test the effectiveness of Parenting in Two Worlds (P2W) as compared to an informational family health intervention, Healthy Families in 2 Worlds (HF2W), in improving parenting and family functioning. Second, this study will test if the relative effectiveness of P2W, compared to HF2W, varies by parent's/guardian's level of socioeconomic vulnerability, experiences of historical loss, or AI cultural identity. Third, this study will examine if P2W can reduce adolescent (ages 12 - 17) risky health behaviors including substance use, depressive symptoms, suicidality, and risky sexual behaviors. Fourth, this study will examine whether positive changes in parenting and family functioning that result from P2W lead to positive changes in adolescent's health behaviors.

Parenting STAIR: Adapting a Trauma-Focused Parenting Intervention for Military-Connected Mothers and Their Children

The goal of this study is to assess Parenting STAIR Modular (PSTAIR-M), a promising and innovative intervention for military-connected mothers (MCM) who have experienced trauma and their young children (ages 2-10). PSTAIR-M aims to help mothers manage the strong feelings that sometimes happen after experiencing something scary or stressful, as well as to better connect with their children and manage their behavior effectively. The main questions the study aims to answer are: 1) Does PSTAIR-M reduce maternal PTSD and/or depression symptoms?, and 2) Does PSTAIR-M improve parental functioning? Researchers will compare PSTAIR-M to treatment as usual (TAU) - other EBTs offered at participating study sites - to determine if PSTAIR-M is more effective in improving mental health and parenting. Participants will: 1) attend 12-16 weekly, 1-hour online treatment sessions with their assigned clinicians, 2) complete three 1-hour online assessments administered by research staff, 3) engage with their child in three 15-30-minute online, observed play sessions, and 4) have assessments audio and video recorded.

Connect to Baby: A Pilot Study of a Parenting and Coparenting Program

The proposed project is a randomized control trial to assess a novel 6-session parenting and coparenting intervention for low-income parents of infants. Connect to Baby (CTB) will be implemented within one of the largest federally-funded early care and education programs, Early Head Start (EHS), in Washington, DC. To engage both fathers and mothers, CTB recruits parents at the time of birth, capitalizing on the "magic moment" of delivery, and uses father-inclusive digital media content to engage men. A key innovation lies in the introduction and rehearsal of four interaction skills -- Noticing, Following, Talking, and Encouraging (NiFTE, pronounced "Nifty") -- to foster serve-and-return interactions with infants as well as supportive, cooperative coparenting interactions between mothers and fathers. To maximize program uptake, CTB is situated within an early education program parents already trust and attend. Additionally, the study will test hybrid program delivery with both in-person and remote sessions using video-enabled tablets to reduce scheduling and logistical barriers and thereby enhance retention. The specific aims of the project are to assess efficacy of random assignment to Hybrid delivery of CTB relative to EHS as usual at enhancing parenting and coparenting quality and parent and child wellbeing. If demonstrated to be efficacious, this program will provide Early Head Start (and other family-serving agencies) a brief cost-effective, manualized preventive intervention that could be used alone or in conjunction with other services to improve parent functioning and co-parenting, further engage fathers in programming and caregiving, and, ultimately, enhance child development.

Nurturing Needs Study: Parenting Food Motivated Children

High food motivation among children is trait-like and increases risks of unhealthy dietary intake and obesity. Scientific knowledge of how parenting can best support healthy eating habits and growth among children who are predisposed to overeating is surprisingly limited. This investigation will identify supportive food parenting approaches for obesity prevention that address the needs of highly food motivated children.
