Utility of PCD Diagnostics to Improve Clinical Care

This cross-sectional and longitudinal observational study is to gather data on the utility of tests that are used to make a diagnosis of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). There is new testing available, called nasal nitric oxide testing, that non-invasively measures nitric oxide levels in the sinus cavity. Individuals with PCD characteristically have low levels, but this testing does not have extensive data from everyday clinical practice. The objective of this proposal is to improve the diagnostic approach to children and adults with clinical concerns for primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD).

Prospective Registry of Patients Undergoing Cardiac CT With NAEOTOM Alpha PCD-CT Before TAVI Procedure

The clinical and demographic characteristics of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) pose unique challenges for coronary computed tomography (CT) imaging, as this patient population is mainly composed of elderly, frail individuals with severe aortic stenosis, multiple comorbidities, high prevalence of heavily calcified coronary artery disease (CAD) and revascularized coronary arteries. Such vulnerable patients could benefit from a more precise assessment and characterization of their CAD with ultra-high resolution (UHR) photon-counting detector (PCD) CT that would potentially avoid the need for pre-implantation invasive coronary angiography (ICA). This international multicenter prospective registry study aims to investigate the feasibility and diagnostic accuracy of PCD-CT in the assessment of CAD in the high-risk population of patients undergoing TAVI, as compared to ICA.

Contrast-Enhanced Photon-Counting Detector CT (PCD-CT) for the Local Staging of Rectal Cancer

Pancreatic Cancer Detection Consortium (PCDC) Prospective Cohorts

Registry for Adults With Plasma Cell Disorders (PCD's)

The primary purpose of this protocol is to create a registry of patients with plasma cell disorders (PCDs), including for example the cancer multiple myeloma (MM), who complete the assessment, previously known as a "geriatric assessment," as is outlined in this protocol. Secondary objectives include measuring the response rate to participation of patients in this study, assessing patient satisfaction with the questionnaire, and gathering information that would lend support for future research into these types of assessments in patients with PCDs. Additionally the study offers an optional blood draw to look at a genetic marker of aging called p16INK4a (IRB 15-1899, IRB 15-0244).

Pathogenesis of Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) Lung Disease

The overall short-term goals of this project include the following: 1) identify the genes that are key to the function of respiratory cilia to protect the normal lung; and 2) the effects of genetic mutations that adversely affect ciliary function and cause primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), which results in life-shortening lung disease. The long-term goal of this project is to develop better understanding of the underlying genetic variability that adversely modifies ciliary function, and predisposes to common airway diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
