Improving Academic and Social Functioning in Middle-Schoolers With Autism

Ohio · Cincinnati, OH

The goal of this study is to test how well two group interventions work for middle-school children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). One of the interventions focuses on teaching parents and adolescent skills to help improve their social functioning and the other focuses on teaching parents and adolescents skills to improve organization, planning, and study skills. Eligible participants will be randomly (like a coin flip) assigned to attend one of the two interventions.

Targeting Social Function to Improve Outcomes in Eating Disorders

Social processing and cognition are often altered in patients with eating disorders. The goal of this clinical trial is to assess two different social therapeutic interventions -- one educational, one interactive -- for their effectiveness in improving clinical outcomes in patients with eating disorders. Patients in both interventions will receive education about social function in eating disorders, but those in the interactive treatment group will complete an additional collaborative art task. Participants will: * attend a baseline study visit to complete clinical interviews, cognitive testing, and behavioral tasks * complete a pre-intervention assessment with questionnaires * attend eight sessions of their assigned treatment group over the course of 12 weeks * complete three virtual follow-up assessments 4, 8, and 12 months from their baseline * attend a final study visit to repeat some clinical interviews, cognitive testing, and behavioral tasks Researchers will compare changes in eating disorder, mood, and anxiety symptoms as well as test results from baseline and final study visits for each group to see if * patients can be treated effectively with education alone or if an interactive group component produces additional benefits * cognitive and behavioral task performance are associated with recovery or illness state.

Targeting Processing Speed Deficits to Improve Social Functioning and Lower Psychosis Risk

This 10 week intervention, Specific Cognitive Remediation with Surround (or SCORES), is designed to target processing speed, a cognitive domain related directly to social functioning, which in turn, represents a vulnerability factor for psychosis. This remotely-delivered intervention combining targeted cognitive training exercises and group support was developed to directly impact processing speed, and at the same time, boost motivation and engagement in adolescents at risk for schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.

Hybrid Type 1 Randomized Pilot Trial of a Peer-led Family and Social Strengthening Group Intervention for Refugee Families

The proposed study draws on prior research to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and explore preliminary effectiveness of Coffee and Family Education and Support, Version (CAFES2) using a pilot randomized type 1 hybrid effectiveness-implementation design. CAFES2 is a peer-led family and social strengthening multiple family group intervention that is designed to respond to multi-level needs of refugee families. Results of the trial will contribute to the emerging evidence base on family-based mental health interventions for refugee and newcomer communities. The trial will also generate new insights regarding implementation strategies needed to promote successful delivery of services by peer providers and the unique role of human-centered design practices for adaptation of mental health and psychosocial interventions.

The PRISM-Social Needs (PRISM-SN) Intervention for Adolescents and Young Adults With Cancer

The goal of this study is to establish feasibility, acceptability, and proof-of-concept of an psychosocial intervention adapted to address social health needs of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) newly diagnosed with cancer. The aims of this study are to: 1. Determine if the Promoting Resilience in Stress Management - Social Needs (PRISM-SN) adapted intervention is feasible and acceptable, defined via program uptake and retention and patient-reported feedback. 2. Explore whether PRISM-SN improves social outcomes at 12-week follow-up compared to usual care. Participants will be randomized to receive usual psychosocial care or the PRISM-SN program. Participants on both arms will complete patient-reported outcome surveys at enrollment and 12-weeks later. Researchers will compare participants who received the PRISM-SN program to those who received usual care to see if the program improves psychosocial outcomes.
