Description

The goal of this study is to study the effects of the ketone supplement Kenetik compared to placebo (an inactive beverage) on alcohol withdrawal symptoms during the 5 days of clinical alcohol withdrawal management treatment at the Caron Treatment Center.

Using Transcutaneous Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation to Treat Acute Alcohol Withdrawal
Description

The purpose of this study is to see if stimulation of the vagus nerve via a non-invasive device placed behind external ear can reduce physical and psychological discomfort during acute alcohol withdrawal in patients with alcohol use disorder when people just stop drinking alcohol and in detoxification stage.

Phenobarbital for Acute Alcohol Withdrawal
Description

Intravenous phenobarbital in combination with a symptom-guided standardized lorazepam-based alcohol withdrawal protocol will be associated with decreased need for ICU admission, continuous lorazepam infusion and will not be associated with increased adverse events.

Dexmedetomidine as Adjunctive Therapy for Alcohol Withdrawal
Description

This study is designed to evaluate dexmedetomidine as adjunctive therapy of severe alcohol withdrawal of medical ICU patients. Specifically, this study will assess whether adjunctive dexmedetomidine reduces the doses of conventional agents used for alcohol withdrawal while maintaining patient comfort and safety and will explore if dexmedetomidine exhibits a dose-dependent profile of action when it is used for this indication. In addition, this study will assess the relationships between alcohol withdrawal, therapy with dexmedetomidine, and potential serum biomarkers of alcohol withdrawal.
