The purpose of this study is to determine whether a multidisciplinary digital clinic will improve health outcomes, reduce costs, increase access, and improve provider satisfaction. The primary aim of this study is to improve clinical outcomes in patients with ALD through the implementation of a novel digital health platform for personalized multi-disciplinary treatment of patients with ALD and AUD. Secondary aims include improvement in provider and patient-reported outcomes including satisfaction with AUD treatment.
This protocol describes a randomized controlled trial testing the effectiveness and implementability of the CHESS Health Connections smartphone application among patients with alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) at two medical centers in Michigan and Wisconsin, in two types of clinics: general hepatology and multidisciplinary that offers care for advanced ALD alongside co-located, integrated mental health and substance abuse treatment. The long-term goal of this and future work is to prevent disease progression and promote healthy behaviors by improving the rate of abstinence among patients with ALD earlier in the course of their disease. 298 participants will be enrolled and can expect to be on study for up to 6 months.
The current proposal is designed as a first-in-human Phase 1 open-label, dose-escalation study to assess the safety, pharmacokinetics, and the maximum tolerated dose of DHM among healthy volunteers using a purified form of DHM from a local cGMP compliant source (Master Herbs, Inc).
The purpose of this research study is to test the safety, tolerability, and effectiveness of the capsules that contain bacteria from healthy individuals when used to treat alcohol craving and drinking.
A Phase I clinical trial to determine the safety and tolerability of an anti-IL23 antibody for the treatment of patients with alcoholic liver disease
Background: Drinking alcohol can lead to swelling and injury in the liver. Long-term heavy drinking may lead to liver disease. Researchers want to study the relationship between a drug called alirocumab, alcohol use, and liver functioning/swelling. Objective: To study the effects of alirocumab in people who drink alcohol. Eligibility: Healthy adults ages 21 to 65 who regularly consume an average of 20 or more drinks per week. Design: Participants will be screened under protocol 14-AA-0181. Participants will get alirocumab or a placebo as an injection under the skin. Participants will give blood and urine samples. They will have physical exams. Participants will have FibroScans . It measures liver and spleen stiffness. Participants will lie on a table. They will expose the lower right and left side of their chest. The machine will send a small vibration to the liver. Participants may have magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the liver. The MRI scanner is shaped like a cylinder. Participants will lie on a table that slides in and out of the scanner. A device called a coil will be placed over their liver. Participants will have a Doppler scan and ultrasound. These tests measure blood flow in the body. Participants will have an electrocardiogram. It measures heart function. Participants will fill out surveys about how they are feeling, their alcohol consumption, and other behaviors. They will complete cognitive tasks on a computer. Participants will meet with a clinician. They will discuss the participant s assessment results, patterns of drinking, and possibly stopping or cutting down on drinking. Participation will last for 8 weeks. Participants will have 9 study visits.
To test the efficacy of 6-month LGG compared to placebo in treating Alcoholic Use Disorder (AUD) and liver injury in Alcoholic Hepatitis (AH). And to evaluate the effects of LGG treatment compared to placebo on therapeutic-mechanistic markers of the gut-brain axis and pro-inflammatory activity in patients with AUD and moderate AH
Liver damage from alcohol intake and weight-related behaviors is preventable and treatable only through lifestyle changes. This mixed-methods randomized controlled trial compares standard and enhanced approaches to screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment/prevention (SBIRT/P) to identify and intervene for metabolism- and alcohol-associated liver disease (MetALD). Our multidisciplinary team aims to show that integrating results of noninvasive liver screening with Fibroscan®, a painless ultrasound that measures stiffness and fat in the liver, can optimize our brief intervention. The study population is adults age 21+ who speak Spanish or English from underresourced communities with alcohol- and weight-related risks for MetALD.
The purpose of this trial is to see if providing patients with alcohol-related liver disease with tailored alcohol use treatment options will increase engagement with treatment and correct possible misconceptions.
Prospective, single center, open label, randomized controlled trial to explore whether digoxin treatment affects cytokine levels as biomarkers of inflammation in patients with acute alcohol associated hepatitis, digoxin administration and dose adjustment. The study intervention will be intravenous digoxin (renal-based dosing for maximum of 28 days) versus no digoxin in an open-label 1:1 randomized allocation of patients with severe acute alcohol associated hepatitis.
This is a retrospective cross-sectional research intended to explore the utility of LIVERFASt in the clinical pathways for the detection of liver fibrosis and steatosis in comparison with the Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) and MRct1 fibrosis classification (historical records) and to assess LIVERFASt performance for MR steatosis assessment in an United States adult miscellaneous population with available (historical) MR intracellular fat fraction assessment (ICFF) from a single tertiary US clinic.
