The JULI Registry--Hemp and Cannabis Observational Registry
Description

The JuLi Registry seeks to fill some of the gaps associated with the clinical use of CBD (cannabidiol) and other cannabinoid formulations including THC and others. The overarching goal of this Registry is to rapidly advance research and understanding of the use of cannabis and hemp-based formulations, in the clinical community setting, when it is utilized to manage the symptoms of cancer treatment and other underlying health issues. These symptoms include nausea, neuropathy, and sleeplessness and chronic pain.

The Effects of a High Protein Breakfast on Appetite and Sleep in Young Adults
Description

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of breakfast skipping (SKIP) vs. the consumption of a high protein solid (HP-S) breakfast vs. the consumption of a high protein beverage (HP-B) breakfast on daily appetite control, food cravings, food intake, and sleep quality in young adults.

Description

To determine whether the consumption of a beef-rich lunch improves appetite control, satiety, and energy intake regulation while reducing food reward and food cravings compared to the consumption of a soy-rich lunch when matched for macronutrients and fiber content or when match for serving size. The mechanisms of action surrounding the differential responses of beef versus soy proteins were also explored.

Effects of Positive Energy Balance and Exercise on Appetite Hormones in Sedentary Men and Women
Description

The purpose of this research study is to examine the effects of overfeeding and exercise on blood levels of hormones associated with regulating appetite, also thought of as feelings of hunger and satiety (fullness). Previous studies have shown that non-obese people have different amounts of these hormones in their blood compared to obese people. The investigators hypothesize that exercise will promote improved insulin sensitivity and corresponding beneficial changes in obese individuals. The investigators predict exercise induced changes in 24-hour plasma hormone levels will be associated with improved appetite during overfeeding in obese individuals.

Sweetened and unsweetened wholegrain barley foods were tested in a randomized, controlled, crossover human clinical trial to assess impact on postprandial appetite and food intake.

Appetite Hormones in Binge Eating Disorder
Description

This study investigates the hormones that the body produces in response to food intake and in response to stress, and the way that stress influences food intake. In particular, it compares the hormone levels and food intake of people with and without binge eating disorder. In order to find out how these appetite- and stress-related hormones are linked to brain activity, the study also includes an fMRI scan, a non-invasive procedure that looks at which regions of the brain are most active during a food-related scenario.

The investigators will assess metabolic function and appetite control in male and female adolescents stratified by bodyweight and physical activity using across-sectional study design.

Oral Iron in Children With Chronic Kidney Disease
Description

This is a pilot clinical trial of oral iron therapy in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and mild anemia. Eligible children will be randomized into a standard of care (iron sulfate) arm vs. no iron therapy arm for 3 months. The outcomes will include muscle strength, physical activity, and changes in eating behavior, which will be measured at enrollment and at the end of the study period.

A Brief Appetite Awareness Intervention for Eating and Weight Regulation Among College Freshmen
Description

The proposed study is a randomized clinical trial investigating the effects of a weight gain and eating dysregulation prevention intervention among college freshmen women. It will compare Appetite Awareness Training (AAT) to a standard nutritional education group and a no treatment control group. Appetite Awareness Training approach to increasing eating regulation through training individuals to eat in response to their appetite cues rather than external or emotional cues.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids as Adjunct Treatment for Major Depressive Disorder
Description

The primary objective of the study was to determine the effects of 10-week adjunctive supplementation with 2 doses of LCn-3 fatty acids (fish oil) on cortical functional activity and biochemistry in adolescents with MDD. The primary prediction was that LCn-3 fatty acid supplementation would dose-dependently increase prefrontal cortical functional activation during sustained attention and increase regional biochemical indices of cortical metabolism and integrity concentrations in association with reductions in depressive symptoms.

A Phase I/II Study to Evaluate Single Agent and Combination Therapy With Megestrol Acetate and Dronabinol for the Treatment of HIV-Wasting Syndrome
Description

To obtain data on the safety of administering megestrol acetate and dronabinol as single agents or in combination to patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-wasting syndrome. To obtain preliminary data on the efficacy of single agent and combination therapy with megestrol acetate and dronabinol with regard to weight gain, appetite increase and quality of life in this patient population. To obtain steady-state pharmacokinetics data when megestrol acetate and dronabinol are administered as single agents and in combination. HIV-wasting syndrome, which is characterized by severely debilitating anorexia and weight loss, is of particular concern because it can exacerbate the primary illness and is associated with a poor prognosis. Attempts at maintaining body mass through the use of megestrol acetate and dronabinol, two anti-cachectic drugs, may prolong survival.
