Improving Appetite Self-Regulation in African American Adults With Type 2 Diabetes
Description

The purpose of this 6-month randomized clinical trial is to examine the feasibility of recruitment, attendance, retention, program adherence, and satisfaction of a digital application designed, Centering Appetite to improve glucose scores (HbA1c) and binge eating in African American adults with type 2 diabetes. Intervention participants will receive type 2 diabetes education and web-based lessons on appetite self-regulation. Participants will also receive a Fitbit to monitor daily physical activity. The investigators will follow up with participants at six months.

Food Form & Energy Intake
Description

This study primarily aims to examine how food presented in various forms (i.e., solid, semi-solid, and liquid) affects children's ability to self-regulate energy intake at a subsequent meal. Additionally, this study aims to examine how several child-level individual differences are associated with differences in various aspects of children's appetite self-regulation. The investigators will recruit 78 children between the ages of 4.5-6 years in order to test the primary hypothesis that energy presented in a liquid form will elicit poorer self-regulation than solid and semi-solid food forms.

ONE PATH: Optimizing Nutrition Education for Parents and Teachers for Healthy Growth
Description

This proposal uses an innovative methodological framework, the multiphase optimization strategy (MOST), to design an effective and efficient responsive feeding (RF) intervention that promotes child appetite self-regulation among a high-risk sample: families with preschoolers living in rural poverty. The principles of MOST emphasize efficiency, allowing identification of the most efficacious intervention components (i.e., components that contribute to treatment effects) while minimizing participant burden and cost. ONE PATH will intervene on \~768 dyads recruited from 56 classrooms serving largely low-income, rural populations.
