The study will evaluate and refine a breast screening and diagnosis device.
The purpose of this study is to compare conventional breast imaging and diagnostic work-up (2 dimensional imaging) to digital breast tomosynthesis (3 dimensional imaging) in the appearance of non-calcified breast masses. It is thought that non-calcified breast masses will be better visualized with the new 3D technology.
This proposal is designed as a pilot study for the use of laser ablation for local control of symptomatic (e.g compressive) benign thyroid masses in 20 patients.
This is a prospective, open label single center feasibility study to demonstrate basic safety and effectiveness of prostate artery embolization for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) in a small series of patients with large (≥90 grams) glands.
Expenditures on material supplies and medications constitute the greatest per capita costs for surgical missions. We hypothesized that supply acquisition at nonprofit organization cost would lead to significant cost-savings compared to supply acquisition at US academic institution costs from the provider perspective for hernia repairs and minor procedures during a surgical mission in the Dominican Republic.
Ovarian cancer is a serious health risk with the highest death rate among gynecological cancers. Unfortunately, it's only possible to definitively diagnose ovarian cancer after surgery, as there are no reliable tests to determine if an ovarian abnormality is cancerous or benign before surgery. Cleo Diagnostics have developed a new test that uses five biomarkers in the blood to better differentiate between benign and malignant ovarian conditions. In initial studies, this test outperformed the current standard test, CA125, in identifying cancer. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Cleo Diagnostics (CleoDX) Ovarian Adnexal Mass Score Test System. This test measures five analytes in the blood and provides a score indicating the likelihood of cancer in patients with an adnexal mass requiring surgery. The test is designed to assist doctors in making better-informed decisions about surgery and patient care by providing a more accurate pre-surgical assessment of cancer risk. By doing so, it aims to improve patient outcomes and ensure that those with malignant conditions receive the appropriate specialist care.
The frequency of kidney tumors found incidentally on imaging studies performed for unrelated reasons continues to increase leading to more surgeries and ablations for the treatment of renal masses thought to be cancer. However, about 20% of these masses are not cancerous and do not require treatment. Many cancerous kidney tumors are indolent and can be followed safely with imaging (i.e., particularly tumors \<2 cm and in patients with limited life expectancy), while some tumors are both malignant and aggressive, with a higher potential to spread outside the kidney and require treatment. The purpose of this observational study is to assess the ability of Fludeoxyglucose (18F) (FDG) PET/MR to distinguish different types of kidney tumors. The investigators hypothesize that PET/MR will better show differences between aggressive and both indolent and benign kidney masses compared to the currently used radiologic scans. Participants will be selected from those who have been scheduled to receive a contrast-enhanced MRI for their regular care due to a suspicious kidney mass. Participants will have their MRI on a hybrid PET/MR scanner capable of obtaining both MRI and PET images. While they are receiving their standard of care MRI exam, patients will also receive a research FDG PET exam. Participants will have an IV placed for administration of the MRI contrast agent, just as they would if they were not taking part in the study. The same IV will be used to give the FDG radiopharmaceutical for the PET scan and furosemide (a diuretic), to help empty the bladder before the scan and help better see the kidneys on the scans. Both FDG and furosemide are FDA approved medications. Participants will have only one visit with the research team which will last \~2.5 hours and will include collection of the participant's regularly scheduled MRI. If participants undergo surgery to remove the tumor, the study will collect samples of the removed tissue for research. If participants receive a biopsy of the tumor, the study may collect an additional sample of the tumor for research. After the PET/MRI, participants will not have additional visits with the study team, but the study team may call every 6-12 months for up to 2 years to see how they are doing and ask about their health. The study team will review the medical record for any changes to their diagnosis, updates to their medical history, new scans ordered by their regular doctor, or recent lab or biopsy results.
The goal of this clinical trial is to better tell apart whether kidney tumors are benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer) based on a biopsy or imaging tests and ask patients how they feel about decisions they make about treatment of their kidney tumor. The main objectives are: To estimate and compare the diagnostic accuracy of renal mass biopsy alone, PEER (with renal mass biopsy), and 99mTc-sestamibi SPECT/CT (with renal mass biopsy for hot tumors) to differentiate malignant and benign renal tumors. To estimate and compare the diagnostic accuracy of renal mass biopsy, PEER (with renal mass biopsy), and 99mTc-sestamibi SPECT/CT (with renal mass biopsy for hot tumors) to differentiate oncocytoma from chromophobe RCC. Participants will be asked to complete survey questions related to their health and kidney tumor at the start and end of the study. These can be done on paper, electronically, or by telephone.
The purpose of this study is to better understand why some children with cancer have difficulty speaking after brain surgery. Difficulty speaking may be due to known complications to the language centers in the brain. These language centers may be located in slightly different places in different people. This study will study which areas may be damaged.
