Incidence of Bleeding on Probing as an Indicator of Peri-Implant Disease Progression
Description

The primary goal of the present prospective cohort study is to evaluate the effect of varying incidences of BOP at implant sites across 15 months of maintenance visits on the probability of peri-implant disease progression. Over 15 months, participants will attend 6 visits where clinical measurements and maintenance care will be performed every 3 months.

Impact of Brief Motivational Interviewing on Periodontal Clinical Outcomes: a 3-year Post-trial Follow-up
Description

The objective is a 3-year follow-up clinical trial to evaluate longitudinal indicators of periodontal disease (plaque score, bleeding on probing (BOP), and gingival index (GI)) in 58 participants who completed NCT03571958. These participants were randomized to a brief motivational (BMI) test group or a traditional oral hygiene instruction (OHI) group for a 1-year clinical trial from 2018-2020. In addition, analysis of retrospective data to determine health topics that emerge from the behavior change strategy of BMI compared to traditional OHI by transcription of audio recordings from 2018-2020.

Experimental Peri-implant Mucositis on Implant Sites That Were Previously Treated With or Without Implantoplasty
Description

This controlled clinical trial will assess clinically, immunologically, and microbiologically the healing of experimental peri-implant mucositis (PIM) lesions in implants treated previously with implantoplasty (IP) compared to those treated without IP.

Evaluation of PerioMonitor for Detection of Oral Inflammatory Load (OIL) in Human Subjects
Description

The purpose of this multicenter, prospective, single arm Study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PerioMonitor as an aid to the presumptive detection of oral inflammation associated with periodontal diseases. PerioMonitor is an IVD device for the rapid, semi-quantitative detection of PMN in oral samples. This test is intended for prescription use at Point-of-Care ("POC") settings by health care professionals.

COMPLETED
Randomized Trial of a Gum Health Formulation
Description

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a newly formulated foaming gel product on gingivitis and/or moderate periodontitis when used with or without the GLO Science accelerating device (GLO Device), compared to standard tooth brushing with antioxidant whitening toothpaste with or without flossing (split mouth design for control group). This is a 60-day randomized single blinded parallel group study. After 42 days, all use of interventional products were discontinued, and the participants returned to the clinical center at day 60 for final measurements. The primary outcomes assessed in this study were the differences in gingival index (GI) and bleeding on probing (BOP) from baseline to 42 \& 60 days. The secondary outcomes are tooth whitening, oral malodor, pocket depth and plaque amount. It is hypothesized that participants using the gingival health product with the GLO Device will experience greater reductions in GI \& BOP measurements than the control group, as well as participants using the gingival health product on a toothbrush alone.

COMPLETED
Diode Laser Study for Periodontal Maintenance Patients
Description

This study tries to determine whether the additional use of laser with "cleaning" (known as scaling and root planning) will result in the reduction of inflammation, reduction of bleeding upon examination and reduction of pocket depth in patients who are being maintained on a regular basis but have pocket depths that are ≥5mm with bleeding. When a pocket is bleeding, it is inflamed. It is usually "cleaned" with periodontal instruments (root-planed) to establish health. Some research also advocates using laser therapy to treat a bleeding pocket. Laser therapy is presently being performed in some dental offices and dental colleges. This research is trying to see if the additional laser therapy is beneficial.
