7 Clinical Trials for Various Conditions
The specific aims of this investigation in children during burn rehabilitation include 1.) to determine the efficacy of melatonin intervention on improving sleep-related outcomes 2.) investigate the hypothesis that sleep inadequacy is associated with cognitive deficits and 3.) develop a new methodology specific for burn patients that accurately screens for the presence of intrinsic dyssomnia.
The investigators are collecting information on the calorie needs of patients in the first year postburn. The investigators hypothesize that increased energy needs continue for up to a year following wound closure from burn injury.
This study will measure efficacy of early in-patient exercise as an adjunct to current Standard of Care (SOC) for 96 patients in a multi-centre trial. The secondary purpose is to assess the efficacy of a personalized, structured, and quantifiable exercise program (MP10) carried out soon after admission until hospital discharge (including during the BICU stay and time on ventilation).
The overarching goal for this prospective randomized controlled trial (PRCT) is to determine whether a virtual-environment, home-rehabilitation program improves functional outcomes for individuals after a burn injury. Specifically, this study will test the efficacy of a technology-assisted rehabilitation program against current standard of home therapy.
The use of the conditioning open-label placebo (COLP) paradigm will be studied as a dose extension method to lower opioid dosage in patients with spinal cord injury, polytrauma, and burn injury. The goal is to provide the same level of pain relief with a reduced opioid intake to diminish side effects as well as the risk of addiction associated with opioid treatment.
This project will develop a descriptive database of patient information and patient outcomes. This database will be used to determine the association of time spent in rehabilitation and patient outcomes, to relate patient acuity to burn scar contracture development and to establish minimal time requirement guidelines for various rehabilitation patient outcomes.
The purpose of the program is to study and characterize the outcome of burn injury with particular attention to improving the rehabilitation of burn survivors, including children. Various agents are assessed for effectiveness on long term burn outcome, such as growth hormone, oxandrolone, propranolol, ketoconazole, inhospital exercise and home exercise.
