Purpose: The purpose of this research is to determine the effects of Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-up (ABC), an evidence-based parenting program, on stress biomarkers in children. Participants: The study will involve approximately 150 caregiver-child dyads, with children aged between 24 and 42 months. Participants will include primary caregivers fluent in English or Spanish, along with their children who have experienced social risk factors for adversity. Procedures (Methods): Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive the ABC parenting program (10 sessions) immediately or be placed on a wait-list, receiving the program after about 4 months. The study procedures include caregivers completing online surveys, engaging in play-based observational tasks with their children, and collecting non-invasive biological samples (saliva, cheek swab, hair) from the children and saliva samples from the caregivers at 2-3 time-points.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the enhanced PriCARE intervention in improving parenting capacity, decreasing child behavior problems, and reducing risk of child maltreatment at several primary care clinics in Philadelphia and 2 primary care clinics in North Carolina.
This clinical trial is evaluating the effects of a 2-hour, small group discussion with parents and caregivers of adolescents in Oregon. We will evaluate whether parents'/caregivers' experience reductions in their disordered eating symptoms, mood symptoms, and parent-child relationship quality, relative to parent/caregiver participants in the wait list control. We will also evaluate whether the children of these parents/caregivers experience improvements in their disordered eating and mood symptoms.
Over 7 million children in the U.S. receive support for a developmental delay or disability (DD). For caregivers of these children, behavior issues that often accompany their child's condition create high levels of stress leading to increased mental and physical health issues and impacts on caregiver-child interactions and family functioning. Although evidence-based practices exist to help caregivers with their child's behavioral development, access to these services is often limited by rigid delivery models requiring in-person visits that can delay support and further increase the burden on families. These barriers are disproportionately higher for families of color and for those in low resource situations: an effect that has been exacerbated by reductions in services due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The overall objective of this project is to develop and implement a telehealth delivery model of rapid-response, evidence-based behavioral support to be provided in conjunction with an existing family navigation program (Undivided) serving parents of children with DD to create a commercially marketable product that will reduce barriers to services in local communities across the country. This project will test the feasibility and acceptability of the Family Advice Text and Telephone (FASTT) support service for caregivers of young children. This Phase 1 application will enable a collaborative process to adapt evidence-based behavioral support to the specific needs of families of children ages birth to 12 with DD and integrate that support within the existing family navigation service. The rationale for the work is that providing effective, personalized support through the widely accessible mediums of text and telephone will get caregivers the help they need when and where they have time to access it and close in time to the behavioral issues they need help with, thus reducing caregiver stress and increasing their sense of competence and positive interactions with their child. Aim 1 determines the feasibility of delivering evidence-based behavioral support to caregivers of children with disabilities using on-demand text messaging. Aim 2 gauges the acceptability of the text-based support service to caregivers. Aim 3 assesses the extent to which text-based support reduces caregiver stress, improves caregiver sense of competence, and builds more positive perceptions of their child's behavior and their relationship with their child.
The purpose of this two-year pilot study is to adapt a 12-week attachment-based parenting intervention for implementation with female adult caregivers who have or are at risk for long-term interpersonal conflict with family members, children, or significant others and are caring for a child between the ages of birth and 7 years.
This study will involve a randomized, controlled trial with two parallel groups, Project Support and a treatment as usual control group. Families with a child on the waitlist for trauma-focused services will be invited to participate. Participation involves completing a baseline assessment of family functioning and trauma characteristics. Participants will then be randomized to either Project Support or the treatment as usual control group. All participants will be invited to complete the post-test assessment 4-6 weeks after the baseline assessment, prior to beginning trauma-focused services.
In this study, the investigators will conduct a proof-of-concept pilot trial of delivering the Project Support Positive Parenting Module (Project Support) to n = 30 families waiting for trauma-focused services. Investigators hypothesize that Project Support will be feasible and acceptable as evidenced by benchmarks for recruitment, retention at post assessment, engagement, fidelity, and program satisfaction. Investigators will also explore trends on caregiver emotional support, parenting self-efficacy, and child mental health symptoms.
The primary objective of this clinical trial is to evaluate the 12-week mentalizing-focused group parenting intervention, Connecting and Reflecting Experience (CARE), relative to a treatment as usual (TAU) group in an outpatient child mental health clinic.
The City of Pomona is launching the Pomona Household Universal Grant (HUG) program in the Summer of 2024. Pomona HUG is a pilot project that will provide 250 parents/caregivers with children under 4 years old $500 a month for 18 months. Pomona's guaranteed income (GI) initiative provides relief for the most economically vulnerable households. The study will investigate the impacts of GI on financial security, material hardship, health and well-being, food security, social support, parenting, and childhood development. The intervention group will be compared to a control group of 350 parents/caregivers receiving only a nominal ($20) amount per month during the 18 month period.
The specific aim of this project is to determine the impact of this group therapy intervention on improving adherence, coping, and functioning among children and adolescents with disease processes requiring injections who experience injection-related anxiety.Hypotheses include: 1. General psychosocial (quality of life) improvements from beginning to post-treatment as well as maintenance of these improvements 2-4 weeks following the termination of treatment for both youth and parents. 2. Reduced injection-related anxiety from baseline to post-treatment as well as maintenance of this improvement 2-4 weeks following the end of treatment for both youth and parents. 3. Reduced anxiety immediately following exposure to feared injection- related stimuli. 4. For participants experiencing poor adherence to medical treatment, improvement in adherence as reported by both parents and youth from baseline to post-treatment as well as maintenance of these improvements 2-4 weeks following the end of treatment.
This study will serve as one of the first to develop and test the effectiveness of strategies to promote HPV vaccination among diverse rural parents and caregivers of children ages 9-17 years in the Mountain West. Once implemented into practice, our intervention could significantly reduce disparities in the burden of HPV-associated cancers among rural populations in the United States. The proposed study will assess the effectiveness of clinic-based outreach to increase vaccination rates for HPV at four community clinics in rural counties in Washington. This study is a boot camp translation to tailor messaging based on patient and provider input The proposed study includes the following: (1) boot camp translation to tailor messaging based on patient and provider input; (2) PREVENT randomized controlled trial (RCT) that will assign adult parent/caregiver participants to a timeline for receiving intervention; and (3) qualitative interviews with parents/caregivers, providers, and other healthcare team members and development of best practices, implementation guides and dissemination of findings for other clinics to implement the program on a broader scale. At the end of the trial, personal interviews with parents/caregivers, clinical staff, and providers will be conducted to understand reactions to the program and persistent barriers to initiating and completing HPV vaccination.

The purpose of this pilot study is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of implementing a social needs screening and intervention protocol in the pediatric inpatient setting by conducting a pilot trial on a pediatric ward. The investigators' hypothesis is that it will be feasible and acceptable to implement a social needs screening and intervention protocol. The investigators will work with pediatric word healthcare team members to develop a social needs screening and intervention protocol. They will then compare preliminary health and social outcome measures between children hospitalized during the pre-intervention period (control group) vs. the post-intervention period (intervention group).
Fathers are disproportionately involved in and responsible for family violence. Forty percent of maltreatment cases include the child's father, which is quite considerable when one considers mothers spend more time with the child during the day and engage in a greater variety of activities, relative to fathers. Importantly, the majority of child victims were those five and younger. Contrary to these potential negative impacts, fathers contribute positively to many aspects of child development and overall family functioning, making unique contributions to child peer relationships, language development, academic skills, and the proficiency of the other parent in parenting tasks. Thus, efforts to emphasize the father's role in the child's life, and attenuate any potential risks due to child or family directed violence, represent key public health initiatives within prevention efforts. There are many potential prevention programs that have been developed to support male caregivers. The Nurturing Fathers program and the Coaching Our Children: Heightening Essential Skills program are two examples of father-focused preventive intervention efforts. However, these approaches have not typically been evaluated as preventive interventions in community-based samples using scientifically rigorous methods. Thus, the present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of these approaches in reducing family violence and improving male caregiver competencies in a randomized, controlled trial. Specifically, Nurturing Fathers Alone and Nurturing Fathers + COACHES will be compared to an attention control, and male caregivers and their children will be randomly assigned to one of the three groups.
Background: Despite advances in symptom management, children undergoing cancer treatment or receiving a chemotherapy-based Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) often suffer from moderate to severe symptoms of nausea/vomiting, pain, and fatigue along with psychological distress. Pharmacologic treatments of symptoms can cause side-effects. Patients, parents, and clinicians have expressed interest in including non-pharmacologic approaches to improve symptom management. Acupuncture/acupressure is a promising adjunctive therapy to usual care. More evidence is needed from well-designed trials with larger samples and rigorous designs in order to make definitive recommendations about the routine inclusion of acupressure among pediatric patients being treated for childhood cancer or receiving a HSCT. Design and Methods 100 dyads (one child with one parent/caregiver) will be randomized 1:1 into 2 study arms (50 children in each arm). Arm A participants will be offered usual care and professional acupressure five times weekly (15-20 minute sessions) and a parent/caregiver will be instructed in acupressure delivery for the child as symptoms arise. Arm B participants will receive usual care alone. (At the study end, Arm B parents will be offered acupressure instructions.) Children will be enrolled for \~30 days which can occur with one month of continuous hospital-based treatment or two months of intermittent hospital-based treatment (inpatient or regular outpatient treatment). Parent and child participants will receive a follow-up interview one month after completion of the intervention (Arm A) or the final symptom assessment (Arm B). Significance This is the first study to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of an acupressure intervention to decrease treatment-related symptoms in 100 patients in treatment for a childhood cancer or receiving a chemo-therapy based HSCT.
Overall Objective: The overall objective of this cross-sectional psychosocial study is to examine illness-related factors, family context factors, and child resiliency as predictors or correlates of child adjustment to leukemia treatment. Primary Objective 1: 1(a): To examine illness-related factors (i.e., child's health and physical functioning and severity of the child's illness) as predictors of child psychological adjustment to leukemia. 1(b): To examine relapse status as a grouping variable affecting child psychological adjustment to leukemia. 1(c): To examine stage of treatment as a grouping variable affecting child psychological adjustment to leukemia. Primary Objective 2: -To examine family context factors (i.e., family psychosocial risk and parental emotional distress) as correlates of child psychosocial adjustment to leukemia treatment. Primary Objective 3: -To examine child resiliency as a predictor of child psychological adjustment to leukemia treatment. Secondary Objectives: * One secondary objective of the study is to examine parental distress as a moderator affecting parental report of child adjustment to leukemia as compared to the child's self-report of adjustment. * Another secondary objective of the study is to develop a model by which the relative contribution of each predictor variable (as determined by analyses of primary objectives) as well as their interrelatedness can be understood in relation to child psychosocial adjustment. * A third secondary objective of the study is to examine demographic variables as covariates in the main analyses. These variables include: age, grade, site, gender, ethnicity, type of leukemia, staging, time spent in treatment, age at diagnosis, and whether the child is undergoing standard or experimental treatment.
The purpose of this project is to test the impact of different forms of technology (virtual reality vs. video chat) on quality of life and family relationships in older adults who reside in senior living communities and an adult child who lives at a distance. The study will also investigate whether responses to the technology and quality of life outcomes depend on older adults' level of cognitive impairment.
