Imaging the Pathogenesis of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease
Description

Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) can lead to vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID). The hallmark of CSVD is the appearance and progression of white matter hyperintensities (WMH) on MRI. The goal of this study it to recruit and follow individuals at risk for WMH progression and use serial MRI scanning to gain insights into the pathogenesis of CSVD.

Description

Patients will have a Functional MRI before and after 10 hyperbaric Oxygen treatments.

Effect of HBO on Functional Connectivity of Resting State Networks in Patients With Cerebral Small Vessel Disease
Description

The purpose of this study is to extend our previous work, in which we demonstrated an increase in the internal and cross network connectivity of resting state neural networks in patients with cerebral small vessel disease by treatment with hyperbaric oxygen, to at least 20 more individuals.

Retina is a Marker for Cerebrovascular Heath
Description

Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD), present in 80-94% of adults over age 65 years, increases the risk of stroke by 2-fold, and dementia by 2.3-fold. There is currently no treatment to slow SVD progression. This study aims to test whether impaired cerebral and retinal vasoreactivity may serve as biomarker for SVD progression, and to evaluate the safety and efficacy of cilostazol (antiplatelet agent with vasodilatory and anti-inflammatory properties) for the treatment of SVD.

Remote Preconditioning Over Time To Empower Cerebral Tissue
Description

Previous studies in animals and humans has shown that brief periods of reduced blood flow to one organ or tissue in the body can help protect other tissues from subsequent injury caused by reduced blood flow such as a stroke. This phenomenon is known as remote ischemic preconditioning and may help protect brain cells after a stroke. The investigators are studying a specific stroke type called subcortical stroke that is very common and has a high rate of recurrent stroke and cognition problems despite intensive prevention measures.

Description

This is a prospective multicenter, open-label, dose-escalation trial to assess the safety, tolerability, and pharmacodynamics of 4D-310 following a single IV administration. The study population is comprised of adult males and females with Fabry Disease.

Inorganic Nitrate Supplementation on Cerebrovascular Aging and Arterial Stiffness Study
Description

This study investigates the effect of dietary inorganic nitrate supplementation on 1) large elastic artery stiffness and hemodynamics and 2) cerebrovascular function in middle-aged and older adults. Participants will be randomized to consume either nitrate-containing or nitrate-depleted beetroot juice.

BRINK (BRain In Kidney Disease) Memory Study 2.0
Description

In this study, the investigators will be looking at results of tests of memory and thinking and daily activities in a group of people without known chronic kidney disease (CKD) , and a group of CKD patients, and follow the participants for up to four more years, including after the participants start dialysis or receive a transplant. The investigators are doing this study to compare how often memory loss, confusion and difficulty with daily activities occur in those without and those with CKD. Additionally, the investigators are doing this study to identify risk factors for memory and thinking problems in CKD patients. The information received through the NDI will be utilized to help track our study population and help provide useful information regarding cause of death of those in our study.
