Assessment of Flow in Cerebrospinal Fluid Shunts With a Wireless Thermal Anisotropy Measurement Device in Asymptomatic Patients
Description

This study evaluates the performance of the study device, FlowSense®, a sensor for non-invasively assessing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt flow. Subjects with an existing implanted ventricular CSF shunt will be evaluated with the study device in an outpatient setting to determine the negative predictive value (NPV; Part 1, blinded) and explore changes in surveillance imaging, health resource utilization, and visit duration during routine follow-up visits (Part 2, unblinded).

Assessment of Flow in Cerebrospinal Fluid Shunts With a Second Generation Wireless Thermal Anisotropy Measurement Device
Description

This study evaluates the performance of a thermal anisotropy measurement device for non-invasively assessing CSF shunt flow. Patients with an existing implanted shunt and symptoms of shunt malfunction who require shunt revision surgery will be evaluated with the study device to assess flow in CSF shunts as confirmed by surgical outcomes at 7 days. If successful, this study will show that the study device accurately distinguishes between functioning (flowing) and non-functioning (non-flowing) shunts.

Longitudinal Measurements of Flow in Cerebrospinal Fluid Shunts With a Wireless Thermal Anisotropy Measurement Device
Description

This study evaluates the performance of a device for non-invasively assessing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt flow. Patients with an existing implanted shunt will wear the device to acquire longitudinal data.

Bedside Ultrasound to Measure Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter in Pediatric CSF Shunts
Description

Bedside ultrasound in the emergency department is useful for quick assessments of patients. One growing use is to measure the optic nerve sheath diameter of patients for whom increased pressure in the head is a concern. This study will look at the optic nerve sheath diameters of a specific population of pediatric patients with shunts that drain extra fluid from their heads.

Ceftaroline Diffusion Into Cerebrospinal Fluid of Children
Description

Ceftaroline fosamil is an intravenous (IV) drug that belongs to a group of antibiotics called cephalosporins . Antibiotics are drugs used to treat infections. Clinical studies in adults patient shave shown ceftaroline fosamil to be effective against many bacteria that are resistant to other currently approved antibiotics. Some of these bacteria may be responsible for infections in the central nervous system. The main aim of this study is to gather information to determine how much of a single IV dose of ceftaroline fosamil will enter into a child's CSF so that the benefit of giving ceftaroline fosamil to children with infections can be better determined.

UNKNOWN
The CSF Shunt Entry Site Trial
Description

The purpose of the study is to compare the survival time (time to first shunt failure) of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunts inserted through an anterior entry site with those inserted through a posterior entry site in children. Shunt entry site is the location on the head that the shunt catheter enters the brain on its path to the fluid-filled spaces in the brain, the ventricles. Entry sites can be anterior or posterior.

A Study Comparing Two Treatments for Infants With Hydrocephalus
Description

The purpose of this study is to study whether infants with triventricular hydrocephalus (TVH) have a better long-term outcome at 5 years when they are treated with a new procedure, endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV), than infants treated with the more traditional treatment, insertion of a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt.
