This is a research study designed to test whether a treatment called Intercostal Nerve Cryotherapy is an effective way to help control post-surgical pain for patients undergoing minimally invasive pulmonary resection. There are two treatment groups in this study, a cryotherapy group and control group. Cryotherapy is a method of controlling pain by freezing nerves between the ribs that would transmit pain impulses to the brain.
Cryotherapy has been used to enhance recovery after orthopaedic surgery. Many devices are available but few can guarantee a temperature regulation during a prolonged time and therefore have been criticized. The arrival of new advanced cryotherapy devices made it possible to test the effect of prolonged cooling on rehabilitation after arthroscopic orthopaedic procedures.
This study will determine the efficacy of cryotherapy to prevent paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy and nail changes in women with breast cancer.
Exertional heat stroke (EHS) is an emergency medical condition that is prevalent in military soldiers, athletes, and laborers. It is diagnosed when the rectal temperature is above 40°C with the presence of central nervous dysfunction (altered mental status). The gold standard method of care for EHS is immediate onsite whole body cooling using cold-water immersion (cooling rates \>0.15°C•min-1), which is reported to have the highest cooling rate. In the treatment of EHS, selecting a cooling modality with a high cooling rate becomes crucial to minimize the time above the critical threshold of body temperature at 40°C to less than 30 minutes for the best chance of survival and to minimize the severity of prognosis. However, in situations where cold water immersion is not feasible (in certain military, firefighter, or other remote settings), other cooling modalities must be available that have a cooling capacity similar to that of cold-water immersion. In this proposed study, we aim to compare the cooling rates of the Polar Breeze® (developed by Polar Breeze ®, Clearwater, FL), cold-water immersion (the current gold standard for EHS treatment), and passive cooling in individuals with exercise-induced hyperthermia
This study compares the tissue temperature decrease between a wetted ice bag (ice and water) with an elastic wrap to the Game Ready® treatment. The goal is to determine which one decreases the temperature the most and the fastest, which is important in immediate care treatments of a musculoskeletal injury.

In this proposed study, the investigators aim to examine the cooling rates of the Polar Breeze® device (developed by Statim Technologies, LLC, Clearwater, FL) compared to rotating ice towels, a cooling method often recommended by sports medicine professionals as an alternative to cold-water immersion, and passive rest in participants with exercise-induced hyperthermia.
Upon suffering a concussion, a neurometabolic cascade including an increase in glucose and oxygen demand occurs for up to 48 hours post-insult.5 This period of increased glucose and oxygen demand is coupled with a period of hyperperfusion and decreased cerebral blood flow. 6-9 Cryotherapy in the musculoskeletal system has been shown to decrease tissue temperature, blood flow, oxygen and metabolic demands.10-17 Cryotherapy following moderate or severe traumatic brain injury has been demonstrated to decrease intracranial metabolic processes and oxygenation consumption.18-23 Although the benefits of cryotherapy have been established in moderate-severe TBI, the effects of superficial cranial cooling in individuals with and without concussion are unknown. The purpose of this randomized control trial is to evaluate the effects of superficial cryotherapy on cerebral blood flow and cognitive function in healthy, recreationally active young adults.
The goal of this project is to test the effects of the VibraCool mechanical stimulation neuromodulatory therapeutic device on post-operative pain and opioid use following anterior crucitate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), and thus residual opioids in circulation.
Effective post - operative pain control following orthopedic surgical procedures without excessive reliance upon opioid pain medication has garnered increased attention in recent years. This study will evaluate the utilization of a non-invasive, novel cryo - compression, post-operative modality to improve pain control versus standard ice wraps in the immediate post-operative phase of arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery via a randomized controlled study design. Furthermore, if this study demonstrates improved pain control, improved quality of life and decreased opioid usage with the intermittent cold compression unit, recommendations may be considered for system-wide utilization.
The study is a randomized controlled trial investigating a multimodal postoperative pain management protocol which will include use of ice therapy and scheduled opioid-sparing medications for pain control after minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of using ice packs on the abdomen immediately after laparoscopic hysterectomy surgery on pain control and narcotic pain medication use.
