Preliminary Study of Peel Force and Discomfort of Removal of Adhesive Barriers in Normal and Peristomal Skin
Description

This purpose of this study is to look at three commercially available ostomy barriers on peristomal (around the stoma) skin. Repeated barrier application and removal over years causes changes to the skin that the investigators wish to investigate. The primary objective is to measure peel force on normal skin and peel force on peristomal skin, with the intent of determining if differences occur. The study hypotheses is that no differences exist.

Regenecare® Wound Gel in Treating Rash in Patients Receiving Cetuximab or Other Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitor Therapy for Cancer
Description

RATIONALE: Regenecare® wound gel may help relieve pain and itching in patients who develop an acne-like rash while undergoing treatment with cetuximab or another epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor for cancer. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well Regenecare® wound gel works in treating rash in patients receiving cetuximab or another epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor therapy for cancer.

Topical Sunscreen in Preventing Skin Rash in Patients Receiving Drugs Such as Erlotinib or Cetuximab for Cancer
Description

RATIONALE: Topical sunscreen may be effective in preventing skin rash caused by treatment with drugs such as erlotinib or cetuximab. It is not yet known whether topical sunscreen is more effective than a placebo in preventing skin rash in patients receiving drugs such as erlotinib or cetuximab for cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying topical sunscreen to see how well it works compared with a placebo in preventing skin rash in patients receiving drugs such as erlotinib or cetuximab for cancer.

Spironolactone in Preventing Rash in Patients With Advanced Cancer Receiving Panitumumab and Cetuximab
Description

This randomized phase II trial studies how well giving spironolactone works in preventing rash in patients with cancer that has spread to other places in the body and are receiving panitumumab and cetuximab. Spironolactone may prevent endothelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor-induced skin rash.

Description

RATIONALE: Questionnaires that patients can use to assess skin toxicities related to treatment may help identify the intermediate-and long-term effects of cetuximab, panitumumab, or erlotinib hydrochloride. PURPOSE: This trial studies the validation of a cancer questionnaire for skin toxicities in patients with colorectal or lung cancer receiving cetuximab, panitumumab, or erlotinib hydrochloride.

Mometasone Furoate in Preventing Radiation Dermatitis in Patients Undergoing Radiation Therapy to the Breast or Chest Wall for Invasive Breast Cancer or Ductal Carcinoma in Situ
Description

RATIONALE: Steroid therapy, such as mometasone furoate, may prevent radiation dermatitis caused by radiation therapy. It is not yet known whether mometasone furoate is more effective than a placebo in preventing radiation dermatitis. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying mometasone furoate to see how well it works compared to a placebo in preventing radiation dermatitis in patients undergoing radiation therapy to the breast or chest wall for invasive breast cancer or ductal carcinoma in situ.

Impact of Early Post-Operative Water Exposure on Complications of Cutaneous Surgeries
Description

Patients are often counseled to keep a surgical wound dry for 2 to 3 days. The rationale is likely to decrease the risk of infection and bleeding. However, this has never been formally studied. Patient's routines are likely disrupted when they are asked to avoid wetting the area. The investigators will perform a controlled study to determine if avoidance of post-operative wetting is necessary.

Kinetic Anesthesia Device Study
Description

Patients experience discomfort from lidocaine injections. Vibrating kinetic anesthesia devices (KAD) have been shown to reduce pain of injections in dentistry, pediatrics, and dermatology, though no studies of lidocaine injections in sites common to dermatologic surgery exist. We will conduct a randomized split-body study, in which healthy volunteers will rate the pain of lidocaine injections on a visual analog scale, with and without the vibrating kinetic anesthesia device being used during injection
