COMPLETED
Intra-op POCUS for Identification of Endotracheal Tube Position in the Pediatric Population
Description

Chest X-ray and/or fluoroscopy is not routinely used in the OR to confirm endotracheal tube (ETT) placement by anesthesiologists. Multiple studies have shown that \~19% of all intubations result in inappropriate ETT placement. An adult study has shown that ultrasound point-of-care is superior to auscultation in determining the location of ETT. This study aims to determine if point-of-care is useful in determining ETT position in children.

TERMINATED
Pilot Study for Verifying Endotracheal Tube Repositioning Using Ultrasound
Description

The investigators will compare the response to oral endotracheal tube repositioning as measured by chest x-ray and measured by the air-wave device.

UNKNOWN
Ultrasound Evaluation of Endotracheal Tube Depth
Description

Correct positioning of the endotracheal tube (ETT) is crucial to ensure safe ventilation. To date, no test that can verify this right after intubation at the bedside exists. Indirect tests have false negative and positive results leading to complications or at least difficulties in performing effective ventilation of patients. Bedside ultrasound could fill this need. Although bedside ultrasound may not be possible or useful in routine intubations, it may prove useful in difficult or questionable cases, where current clinical exams/techniques may not offer a reliable indication of endotracheal tube depth.

COMPLETED
Multi-center Evaluation of the NEMO Gauge to Aid in Correct Positioning of the Endotracheal Tube
Description

The aim of this study is to verify the safety and accuracy of an FDA-approved device called the NEMO™ Gauge to aide in the proper positioning of the endotracheal tube (ETT), inserted in the lungs of patients admitted to the intensive care unit. The hope is that the NEMO™ Gauge is able to properly determine the correct position of the endotracheal tube without the use of a chest radiograph (chest x-ray). The study investigators anticipate sixty-eight (68) subjects will participate in this study at three (3) study centers in the Inland Empire of Southern California, with subjects being enrolled at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Riverside University Medical Center and Loma Linda Veterans Affairs Hospital.
