Importance Team members speaking-up by raising concerns about inappropriate or unsafe actions of others within the team can have direct, immediate, and preventive effect on adverse outcomes. However, little is known about the hurdles and enablers of this behavior in healthcare, especially within the operating room setting. Objective 1. Determine if an educational workshop would improve speaking-up behaviors of practicing anesthesiologists when presented with realistically-simulated clinical situations. 2.Describe speaking-up behaviors addressed to a surgeon, a nurse, and a colleague. 3. Identify the self-reported hurdles and enablers for speaking-up in those situations encountered. Design Randomized controlled experiment of an educational workshop intervention on communication behaviors in a simulated case. Qualitative analysis of debriefing conversations following the simulated case. Setting Established academic simulation center Participants Seventy-one practicing anesthesiologists from four academic medical centers and one community hospital Intervention Fifty minute educational workshop on speaking-up that included rationale, conversational techniques, a rubric for speaking-up, and role-play.
The study team is seeking to evaluate the efficacy of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course at reducing stress and burnout. This will be done through the collection of brief anonymous online surveys (the Perceived Stress Scale and the Mini Z) before the MBSR course and at 2 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months following the end of the course. Participation is completely voluntary and will not affect anyone's ability to take this course, and the course instructors will have no knowledge of who has or has not participated in the study.
To evaluate the clinical outcomes of AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL for the Faculty Practice at UTSW Medical Center at Dallas
The purpose of this study is to study whether distressed medical residents, fellows, and faculty health professionals benefit from completing online an anonymous and interactive screening of stress, depression, substance use, and suicidal thoughts. The screening and ability to interact online with a clinician anonymously are hypothesized to increase willingness to come for counseling in person. Suicide risk factors are expected to be lower once the distressed medical trainee or faculty member receives treatment.
We will conduct a faculty development workshop with intent to improve interrater reliability and rater accuracy. Outcomes will include interrater reliability, accuracy, and workshop evaluations.
The goal of this randomized control study is to determine if the use of standardized coaching language by faculty trainers for teaching colonoscopy is associated with improved colonoscopy performance. The main questions it aims to answer are: * If the use of standardized coaching language is effective in improving colonoscopy training? * If the use of standardized coaching language influences the clarity of instructions by the faculty trainers during colonoscopy teaching Participants will take part in simulated colonoscopy teaching encounter using a virtual reality simulator for 1 hour in 2 different sessions 2 weeks apart. Researchers will compare 2 groups of faculty trainers to to see if the standardized coaching language effects the colonoscopy training quality.
