9 Clinical Trials for Various Conditions
Recently clinical guidelines categorize pneumonia in to three types: community, healthcare-associated, and hospital-acquired. Much of the existing research to describe the epidemiology of pneumonia in critically ill patients comes from single-center studies or from retrospective database analyses, which limit generalizability and lead to over-prescription of broad-spectrum antibacterial agents. This will be a prospective, multicenter epidemiological study to characterize pneumonia epidemiology in critically ill adult patients.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of a universal, standardized oral care protocol on prevention of non-ventilated hospital-acquired pneumonia (NV-HAP) in the acute care setting. In the course of the year-long study, the research team will provide educational and materials support for oral hygiene on two interventional units (one medical; one surgical) and two control units (one matched medical; one surgical). At the end of the study, the research team will evaluate existing hospital data to determine the number of NV-HAPs in the interventional and control groups.
The objective of this cluster-randomized crossover study is to determine the effect of delaying antimicrobial initiation until objective microbiologic data is obtained in patients with presumed ICU-acquired pneumonia without septic shock.
The primary objective of this study is to compare all-cause mortality at Day 14 in participants receiving cefiderocol with participants receiving the comparator, meropenem, in adults with hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP), ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP), or healthcare-associated bacterial pneumonia (HCABP) caused by Gram-negative pathogens.
This study is designed to provide evidence of efficacy of cefiderocol in the treatment of serious infections in adult patients caused by carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative pathogens.
Solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients have increased incidence of infections with MDRO pathogens. This difference leads to a disparity in antibiograms between SOT recipients and other hospitalized patients.
To determine if linezolid is superior to vancomycin in the treatment of nosocomial (acquired in the hospital) pneumonia due to Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in adult subjects. Subjects entered in to the study will have proven healthcare-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus pneumonia which will be treated with either linezolid or vancomycin.
Our Aim is to identify patient risk factors and clinical practices associated with healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) after cardiac surgery. We will use prospectively collected data housed within the MSTCVS-QC (Michigan Society of Thoracic \& Cardiovascular Surgeons Quality Collaborative) to reveal risk factors that elevate a patient's risk of developing HAIs. The results of this analysis will form the foundation for the development of standardized regional practices to reduce HAIs. We will explore the effect of traditional patient-level measures (age, sex, comorbid conditions), process measures (timing and selection of antibiotics, continuous insulin infusion, transfusions), and surgical practices (use of bilateral internal mammary artery usage among diabetics, vein harvesting approach).
The investigators will conduct qualitative interviews of hospital personnel regarding HAI prevention practices, and use coded data from these interviews to assist in developing standardized practices.
