COMPLETED
Evaluating Physiological Markers of Emotional Trauma: A Randomized Controlled Comparison of Mind-Body Therapies
Description

The purpose of the study is to determine if a physiological marker, joint rotation of the upper body, can be affected by the release of emotional trauma during a brief psychotherapeutic encounter, and whether acupressure is an active ingredient in EFT.

COMPLETED
Lateral Neck Flexor Endurance and Hyperlaxity
Description

The lateral neck flexor endurance test has been proposed to assess for unilateral muscular deficits. It is not known if individuals with hyperlaxity have different muscular endurance than individuals without hyperlaxity.

UNKNOWN
The Effect of Joint Hypermobility Syndrome on Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness and Recovery Time
Description

The purpose of the study is to investigate Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (JHS) and its effect on delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and recovery time. The hypothesis is that people with JHS will experience increased DOMS when compared to non-hypermobile people. The results this study may assist and add to the body of knowledge when treating and exercising patients with JHS, as considerations can possibly be made when treating this population. Subjects with JHS may experience greater DOMS and require more time to recover between treatment sessions.

COMPLETED
A Study to Assess Benign Joint Hypermobility Syndrome in Children With a History of Wheezing or Asthma
Description

The purpose of this study is to assess benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) in children with a history of wheezing or asthma. BJHS is a common syndrome of joint and connective tissue laxity without any other rheumatologic disease. This assessment will be performed by using either method below depending upon if the child has a history of wheezing or severe asthma: 1. Determine the correlation, if there is an increased rate of BJHS in children with a history of wheezing as well as if there is an increased history of wheezing in children with BJHS; or 2. Determine asthma control, lung function and asthma exacerbations (a flare up or acute worsening of symptoms) in children with BJHS compared to children with asthma without BJHS, to assess if it BJHS is associated more with children with severe asthma.

RECRUITING
Fitness Integrative Training for Pediatric Rheumatology Disorders
Description

This study evaluates the feasibility of the Fitness Integrative Training program for Teens (FIT Teens 2), a combined cognitive behavioral therapy and neuromuscular exercise training program in patients with pediatric rheumatic diseases and/or joint hypermobility.

RECRUITING
Identifying the Determinants of Bleeding and Hypermobility in Patients With Heavy Menstrual Bleeding
Description

In this study, researchers want to learn about the connection between heavy bleeding issues and joint hypermobility (loose joints). They want to know if these issues may indicate other connective tissue problems in girls and women with heavy menstrual bleeding who do not have a known cause. Primary Objective * Compare the severity of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) in women with and without Generalized joint Hypermobility Syndrome Disorder/hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (G-HSD/hEDS) using bleeding scores. Secondary Objectives * Compare the frequency of co-morbidities in women with and without G-HSD/hEDS.

COMPLETED
Splint Users' Satisfaction and Functional Status With Custom Finger Splints
Description

This feasibility and non-randomized comparison study explores the possible benefits of splint design and production by 3D-printing in a clinical setting and looks at splint users' experiences with customizable 3D-printed finger splints compared to conventionally made splints. Fifty participants with a hyperextended finger condition are assigned by researcher to either an interventional group (customizable 3D-printed finger splint) or a control group (conventional thermoplastic finger splint). Participants will wear assigned splint for 1 month. Functional status and satisfaction with splint will be assessed at the end of the 1-month duration in the form of surveys on satisfaction and functional status participants will be asked to complete. The findings will contribute to evidence that customizable 3D-printed finger splints can serve as a feasible, cost-effective option to improve patient satisfaction and functional status. It will further justify the need for the application of 3D-printing in a clinical setting.

TERMINATED
Investigation of Hypermobility, Biomarkers, and Pain Generators in Chronic Pain Patients
Description

Observational study of axial spine pain and hyperflexibility. Patients will receive physical exam maneuvers (traditional straight leg raise, FABER, facet loading as well as Beighton's hypermobility score) and blood / urine / saliva collection. They will also be separated into pain groups based on their response to injections. A correlation between exam findings and procedure group will be measured.
