The goal of this pilot intervention is to learn about how a well-formulated ketogenic diet (WFKD) impacts various health factors in generally healthy adults. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Establish whether an 8-week isocaloric, WFKD improves body composition and metabolic biomarkers in adults without chronic disease. * Examine changes in transcriptomic sequencing pathways pre- and post-WFKD intervention. * Explore gut microbial changes in adults without chronic disease that consume a WFKD. Participants will follow a well-formulated ketogenic diet for 8-weeks. Study procedures include: * Weekly body weight tracking * Daily urinary ketone assessment * Pre/post stool samples for gut microbiota analyses * Pre/post DXA scans * Diet quality tracking through 3-day food records
The primary purpose of this study is to characterize the performance and utility of a novel breath acetone meter developed by Readout, Inc.
The study will examine the performance and body composition effects of ketogenic vs carbohydrate-based diets, determine the carbohydrate tolerance ("carbohydrate threshold") for active individuals on a ketogenic diet, and then, reexamine the performance and body composition effects when the diets are modified with supplemental carbohydrate up to the newly defined "ketogenic threshold."
The goal of this randomized clinical trial is to be adequately powered to evaluate the effect of ketogenic metabolic therapy on the quality of life in serious mental illness, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder.
KDDP is a prospective, 12-month pilot study comparing the effects of a novel lifestyle program, the Ketogenic Diet and Diabetes Demonstration Project (KDDP) to those of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDDP). KDDP is modeled to mimic the delivery platform of NDPP with the exception that participants in KDDP will be placed on a medically-supervised ketogenic diet, and participants in NDPP will be placed on a low fat diet. The purpose of this study is to compare the metabolic effects of the KDDP and the NDPP on glycemic control, lipid parameters, blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and coronary artery calcium scores in individuals with either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
The research study is being conducted in health controls to better understand the effects of ketosis on brain functioning after 3 different, randomly assigned, 3-day dietary interventions and the acute effects of alcohol after consuming about 4-5 alcohol beverages. The labs visits will use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans to study the brain, measuring levels of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), lactate, neurotransmitters glutamate, and Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
This is a 6-week ketogenic diet (KD) intervention where participants with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) will follow a KD plan, supervised and monitored by a dietician. Participants will be provided extensive educational and ongoing support on the KD, including personalized coaching with the ability to text a dietitian at any time and expect a response within 12 hours. Diet adherence and progress will be assessed daily using at-home blood ketone/glucose monitors, along with diet records. Participants will fill out health related questionnaires and undergo assessments of body composition, RA disease activity. This study also includes blood draws and fat biopsy of the abdominal region.
To initiate a low-carbohydrate, high-fat (LCHF) or ketogenic dietary (KD) intervention among a cohort of outpatients with bipolar illness who also have metabolic abnormalities, overweight/obesity, and/or are currently taking psychotropic medications experiencing metabolic side effects.
The ketogenic diet is a medical therapy for epilepsy that is used nearly predominantly for refractory epilepsy (after 2-3 drugs have been tried and failed). However, there is both published evidence for first-line use (infantile spasms, Glut1 deficiency syndrome) and also anecdotal experience (families choosing to change the child's (or the family' own) diet rather than use anticonvulsant medications). Childhood absence epilepsy (refractory) has been published as being responsive to ketogenic diet therapy by the investigators' group previously. This is a small, prospective, 3 month trial to assess if using a modified Atkins diet is a feasible and effective option for new-onset childhood absence epilepsy. The investigators will compare to a group of children in which the parents have declined and chose to start anticonvulsant medications.
This study evaluates adherence to a ketogenic diet in patients with low tumor burden, treatment-naïve mantle cell lymphoma.
Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) is a condition that occurs in small percentage of obese people that causes high carbon dioxide and low oxygen levels in the blood. OHS is associated with respiratory failure, pulmonary hypertension, and death. The cause of OHS is unclear. Since not all obese people develop OHS, it is believed that hormone imbalances can contribute to the breathing problem. Some diets can change the body's hormones. For example, low-carbohydrate, high fat "ketogenic" diets (KD) may decrease insulin and glucose levels and increase sensitivity to other hormones. The investigators hypothesize that a KD will improve breathing in OHS patients, even in the absence of weight loss.
Traumatic Brain Injury is a major health concern in United States. There is a un-met need to develop new therapeutic options for faster neuron recovery without causing significant side effects. The role of ketones in neuronal recovery has been studied and has been found to be useful in decreasing size of contusion. The present study aims to study the safety and feasibility profile of ketogenic diet.
To initiate a low-carbohydrate, high-fat (LCHF) or ketogenic dietary (KD) intervention among a cohort of outpatients with either schizophrenia or bipolar illness who also have metabolic abnormalities, overweight/obesity, and/or are currently taking psychotropic medications experiencing metabolic side effects.
The purpose of this pilot study is to measure adherence and quality of life in adults with intractable epilepsy following the Modified Atkins Diet (MAD) with Betaquik, a ready-to-use medium chain triglyceride (MCT) emulsion, as an adjunct to the MAD.
To evaluate the impact of a Low Carbohydrate Ketogenic Diet (LCKD) weight loss program and compare to the standard of care program established for patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) on: (1) Liver fat and liver stiffness scores, (2) lipid profile and insulin sensitivity; and (3) depression scores and quality of life, and (4) Cardiometabolic measures such as cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) and transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE).
