Retrospective Study of Suture Tape for Soft Tissue Reconstruction in Patients Suffering From Lateral Ankle Instability
Description

This study is intended to be a retrospective chart review of patients with chronic ankle instability who have undergone a lateral ligament reconstructive procedure for ATFL repair (isolated or non-isolated) with suture tape augmentation. Patients that have been treated at any of the participating institutions that have undergone an ATFL reconstruction with Arthrex InternalBrace augmentation who have postoperative hospital or ASC records of safety and effectiveness as measured by adverse events, potential complications, and potential functional outcomes past the 10-week time point will be included.

Study of Artelon FLEXBAND® for Patients Undergoing Soft Tissue Reconstruction of the Anterior Talofibular Ligament (ATFL) to Treat Lateral Ankle Instability
Description

The goal of this clinical trial is to analzye return to pre-injury activity level on study participants with lateral ankle instability undergoing a modified Bröstrom reconstruction procedure for repair of the ATFL. Study participants undergoing ATFL reconstructive procedure using the ARTELON FLEXBAND System as an augmentation device will be compared to study participants undergoing a standard modified Bröstrom procedure alone. Clinician reported safety and functional outcomes measures will be collected at baseline; and at 2-, 6-, 12-, 18 and 26-weeks and 1- and 2-years post-surgery.

Modified Brostrӧm Procedure With and Without Possible Arthroscopy for Lateral Ankle Instability
Description

This study is to show that the investigators believe the Modified Brostrӧm Procedure (MBP) can be completed without a routine ankle arthroscopy. Routine ankle arthroscopy, if determined not to be necessary in all cases, is a waste of resources in terms of operating room, surgeon, and staff time as well causing an increase in hospital financial expenses. Most importantly, this procedure is morbid. Ankle arthroscopy forces a patient's foot into distraction for up to one hour, exposes the patient to potentially longer anesthesia exposure that is unnecessary, increases infectious risks, and requires exposure at the portal sites near superficial nerves.

Lateral Ankle Ligament Reconstruction With InternalBrace™ Augmentation
Description

Lateral ankle ligament stabilization procedures are well described in the orthopaedic literature. Although success rates are high, the incidence of recurrent instability is well documented. In addition, with standard rehabilitation protocols, the timeline to return to sport and functional activities may be prolonged. The InternalBrace Ligament Augmentation Repair is a safe and reproducible technique using FiberTape® and BioComposite SwiveLock® as an augmentation to a Brostrom procedure. The InternalBrace Ligament Augmentation repair consists of a FiberTape bridge between two Knotless Swivelock anchors providing a protective reinforcement and allows the surgeon to repair lateral or medial ankle instability and the pain associated with it. This type of repair can be utilized in acute and chronic ankle sprains.

Multisegmented Foot Motion in Patients With Lateral Ankle Sprains and Chronic Ankle Instability
Description

Lateral ankle sprains (LAS) and chronic ankle instability (CAI) are common musculoskeletal injuries that are a result of inversion injury during sport. The midfoot is frequently involved during inversion injury, is often overlooked during clinical examination, and maybe contributory to the development of CAI. The purpose of this study is to investigate multisegmented foot motion using a motion capture system, clinical joint physiological and accessory motion, and morphologic foot measurements in recreationally active men and women with and without a history of lateral ankle sprains and chronic ankle instability. Additionally, the effects of a joint mobilization intervention in patients with diminished multisegmented foot motion and intrinsic foot strengthening in healthy individuals will be investigated.
