The purpose of this study is to determine whether personalized lifestyle coaching minimizes the negative impact of circadian disruption on performance and recovery in emergency medicine physician trainees during night shifts.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate if an occupational therapy lifestyle program for community-dwelling older adults delivered individually through a telehealth platform can produce comparable outcomes in health-related qualify of life and occupational performance as found in studies that used a longer duration and group intervention.
The investigators overarching goal is to increase the percentage of patients engaging in diabetes prevention activities to reduce the incidence of diabetes. The investigators objective is to design and pilot test a prediabetes clinical decision support (CDS) tool in the electronic health record (EHR) that will assess the patient's activation level based on responses to a questionnaire. Based on the patient's assessed level of activation, the tool will generate several communication recommendations to guide clinicians in conversations related to prediabetes/lifestyle change and tailor recommendations about available resources (e.g., care manager, health coach, DPP) to support patient activation.
The primary objective of the STRIVE study is to compare two implementation strategies for Diabetes Prevention Program delivery: an in-person health coach strategy (standard 24 in-person sessions at WIC clinics) vs. a multifaceted technology-assisted health coach implementation strategy (12 in-person sessions at WIC clinics supplemented by technology support) on implementation and health-related outcomes in postpartum women.
This study's purpose is to identify factors that may aid in answering the clinical question: Among adolescents 12-17 years old who are diagnosed with a mental health condition(s), does a family-based educational intervention improve healthy lifestyle knowledge and behaviors, including nutrition, PA, screen time, and sleep? The specific aims are to: Aim 1: To educate adolescents with mental health conditions and their family members about ways to improve healthy lifestyle behaviors. Aim 2: To evaluate an increase in knowledge on healthy lifestyle behaviors after a 45-minute online education session. Aim 3: To evaluate an increase in healthy lifestyle behaviors after the intervention. This project utilizes a one-group pretest-posttest design study for 30 adolescents (aged 12-17 years) diagnosed with a mental health condition(s) and their parent/legal guardian. This project will implement best practices to promote healthy lifestyle knowledge and behaviors to adolescents and their parent(s)/legal guardian(s). This will be a 45-minute educational presentation delivered via Zoom. Participants will have option to select between 2-3 dates and times for educational presentation. The investigators will compare the effects of an educational program on healthy lifestyle knowledge and behaviors pre-and post-program (after one month) via a REDCap survey for the adolescent and their parent/legal guardian. The survey will utilize an adapted version of the 2021 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and the 2020 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH-T3). The analysis of this project will compare changes in healthy lifestyle knowledge and behaviors using a paired t-test. The educational presentation will be recorded and emailed to participants within 1 week of intervention to re-watch/review.
Randomized controlled trial of a curriculum intervention teaching patients to eat a whole-food plant-based dietary pattern versus standard of care in kidney transplant recipients within the first few months of transplant
This study will examine the feasibility and acceptability of a family-oriented augmentation of the Diabetes Prevention Program lifestyle intervention (DPP), called the Family DPP. It will also preliminarily examine adult and child health and health behavior outcomes. The DPP is a 12-month, group-based lifestyle intervention for adults at high-risk for type 2 diabetes, in which adult participants learn skills and strategies to achieve the program's goals of 5% weight loss and 150 minutes/week of moderate-vigorous physical activity. The Family DPP will consist of all elements of the evidence-based DPP, along with augmentations including additional child-focused sessions in which adult participants will learn about principles and strategies for promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors in children, ages 5 through 12 years. Children may participate in certain child-focused sessions, too. The non-randomized pilot feasibility study will consists of 2 arms/groups: 1) the concurrent "control" group, consisting of adults who are enrolled in the DPP; and 2) the "intervention" arm, in which the adult participants will engage in the Family DPP (and children may participate in certain aspects of the Family DPP focused on children). The study will recruit 10-15 adult-child dyads, for the "intervention" groups, and 10-15 adults for the concurrent control group. In addition to data collected from adult participants as a routine part of the DPP, the study will examine additional adult health behaviors and health outcomes and child health outcomes (change in body mass index z-score) and health behaviors at baseline, 6 months and 12 months (program end) among participants in the "intervention" group.
The goal of ADELANTE is to determine whether a multi-level intervention to improve household food insecurity and glycemic control is effective for Latino patients with diabetes. Specifically, ADELANTE aims to 1. determine whether weekly household food delivery plus an intensive lifestyle intervention is more effective than usual care for improving glycemic control (HbA1c) at 6 months, 2. examine the effects of the multi-level intervention on = household food insecurity, dietary behaviors, and psychosocial outcomes, and 3. assess the future potential for implementation and dissemination of this multi-level intervention in primary care settings.
The purpose of this research study is to understand the long-term effects of the drug phentermine on weight, blood pressure, other health outcomes, and safety. Phentermine has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for weight management since 1959, but it has not been approved for long-term use (i.e., treatment lasting more than 12 weeks). This trial is designed to learn about the long-term effects of phentermine for up to 2 years because obesity is a chronic disease and expert guidelines recommend long-term use of anti-obesity medications as one treatment option.
The purpose of this research study is to compare the effectiveness of a fully automated digital diabetes prevention program to standard of care human coach-based diabetes prevention programs for promoting clinically meaningful lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes in adults with prediabetes.
The purposes of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of providing a community based referral to Mayo Clinic Employee and Community Health patients for weight loss.
The study aimed to investigate 1) if a brief, regulatory focus-based intervention could promote weight control and changes in certain lifestyle behaviors and 2) how weight was affected by changes in these behaviors. The lifestyle behaviors of interest included meal regularity, self-monitoring of diet and physical activity, fast-food eating, screen related viewing and eating, dietary modifications, self-weighing, and physical activity. It was hypothesized that increases in meal regularity, self-monitoring, healthy dietary modifications, self-weighing, and physical activity would lead to better weight control over six months. Conversely, it was hypothesized that increases in fast food consumption and screen related eating and viewing would lead to poorer weight control over six months. It was expected that promotion and prevention conditions, relative to the control condition, would lead to better weight control and increases in meal regularity, self-monitoring, healthy dietary modifications, self-weighing, and physical activity, and decreases in fast food consumption and screen related eating and viewing. Furthermore, it was expected that the promotion condition would lead to better outcomes than the prevention condition.
The goal of this 26 week randomized controlled clinical trial is to learn if using a real time continuous glucose monitor (CGM) in a healthy lifestyle program for adults with prediabetes at the YMCA can improve glucose levels, dietary habits and physical activity The main questions it aims to answer is * Does use of a CGM improve the percent of time spent with glucose values between 70-140 mg/dl * Does use of a CGM improve nutritional habits as measured by Picture Your Plate (PYP) score * Does use of a CGM improve physical activity as measured by International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) score Researchers will compare individuals using real time CGM to those not using CGM Participants will be asked to: * attend weekly health coach sessions for 12 weeks followed by 3 monthly sessions. * attend a YMCA class of their choice * fill out questionnaires at baseline, 12 and 24 weeks * have an A1c blood test at baseline, 12 and 24 weeks. * wear a CGM. All participants will wear a blinded CGM at baseline. The intervention group will wear a real time CGM for 24 weeks. The control group will wear a blinded CGM for 10 days at 6, 12 and 24 weeks
The goal of this clinical trial is to understand how level of adherence with time-restricted eating (TRE) predicts change in diurnal rhythms (as measured using the amplitude of diurnal peripheral clock gene expression), and how those changes predict lower mania and depressive symptoms, and downstream improvements in quality of life. The effects of diurnal amplitude of clock gene expression is expected to remain significant when controlling for change in glucose tolerance and inflammation. Participants will be enrolled who are already receiving medication treatment for bipolar disorder. Participants will complete daily measures of eating, sleep and mood for two weeks, and then will be assigned to follow TRE for eight weeks. Symptoms and Quality of Life will be measured at baseline and during and after the food plan.
The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of CHAMPION ("Comparative-effectiveness of a Healthy lifestyle and Asthma Management Program, In-person vs ONline"), a primary care-based intervention to address childhood obesity and asthma, and test the effectiveness of a telehealth-only version of the program. Intensive Health Behavior and Lifestyle Treatment (IHBLT), when delivered via telehealth vs. in-person among children with overweight or obesity and persistent asthma.
The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the effects of two different healthy lifestyles on outcomes for those with bipolar disorder. The goals are to understand the acceptability of time-restricted eating and the mediterranean diet for those who are already receiving medication treatment for bipolar disorder, and to consider how these two food plans predict changes in manic symptoms, depressive symptoms, and Quality of Life. Participants will complete daily measures of eating, sleep and mood for two weeks, and then will be assigned to follow one of the two food plans for eight weeks. The investigators will measure symptoms and Quality of Life at baseline and during and after the food plan.
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about cardiovascular disease risk among adolescent girls with overweight/obesity. The main questions this trial aims to answer are: 1. Does an acceptance-based healthy lifestyle intervention demonstrate more weight loss than a health education intervention? 2. Does an acceptance-based healthy lifestyle intervention show more improvements in participants' physiological, health-related, and psychological factors compared to a health education intervention? Participants in this trial will: 1. Engage in treatment for 6-months, comprising of a mixture of in-person and remote group sessions, occurring at Drexel University or over a video-conferencing platform. 2. Complete various assessments. These include self-reported questionnaires, measures of weight, height, body composition, blood pressure, and blood lipids, and wearing of smart watches to measure sleep and physical activity. Researchers will compare the acceptance-based and health education intervention groups to see if the acceptance-based treatment will indeed be effective in improving participants' health outcomes.
There are close to 700,000 survivors of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer (aged 15 to 39 at diagnosis) in the US. Survivorship for AYAs is often complicated by long-term and late-effects. Cardiovascular disease (CVD), in particular, is a leading cause of death for cancer survivors and is a growing public health concern for survivors diagnosed as AYAs. Risk of CVD may be associated with treatment exposures and may be potentiated by weight gain and poor health behaviors. Healthy eating and physical activity are key behaviors for weight loss and maintenance and may be protective against CVD risk, yet few AYA cancer survivors adhere to guidelines for healthy eating or activity. AYA survivors' abilities to engage in health behaviors (i.e., healthy eating, physical activity) necessary to manage weight may also be challenged by persistent cancer-related symptoms (i.e., pain, fatigue, psychological distress). Thus, weight gain is common. Using input from AYA cancer survivors, the investigators have adapted a behavioral weight and symptom management protocol for AYA cancer survivors with obesity to create an intervention that is responsive to AYAs' unique needs. A pilot randomized controlled trial will be conducted to examine intervention feasibility and acceptability and to examine patterns of change in outcomes including weight, body mass index, symptoms (e.g., pain, fatigue, distress) as well as other CVD risk factors, including blood pressure, cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL), HbA1c, and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk score.
To learn if an 8-week, phone-based texting intervention program will reduce sedentary (non-mobile) behavior.
The purpose of the Deaf Weight Wise Implementation Study is to study with diverse partners the approaches and strategies that lead to successful implementation of Deaf Weight Wise (DWW), an evidence-based healthy lifestyle intervention for use with Deaf adult American Sign Language (ASL) users. The implementation hypothesis is that diverse community organizations will successfully implement DWW with their constituents.
Gardner GOALS is a 6 month program for treatment of childhood obesity that consists of twice monthly telehealth meetings with a health educator. Potential participants enter the study using a randomly ordered list of eligible patients based on BMI, age and number of clinic visits in 2020.

The goal of this study is to conduct a program of pilot research aimed at evaluating the effect of an intensive lifestyle intervention on cognitive functioning in older adults with obesity and or obesity and sarcopenia.
The primary purpose of the BOUNCE study is to assess the effectiveness of a four-week family-based healthy lifestyle summer program in reducing adiposity indicators in Hispanic and African American girls and boys (ages 9-14 years old).
Participation in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation (CR) decreases morbidity and mortality for patients hospitalized with myocardial infarction, coronary bypass surgery or percutaneous revascularization. Unfortunately, only 10-35% of patients for whom CR is indicated choose to participate. Lower socioeconomic status (SES) is a robust predictor of CR non-participation. There is growing recognition of the need to increase CR among economically disadvantaged patients, but there are almost no evidence-based interventions available for doing so. The present study will examine the efficacy of using early case management and financial incentives for increasing CR participation among lower-SES patients. Case management has been effective at promoting attendance at a variety of health-related programs (e.g. treatment for diabetes, HIV, asthma, cocaine dependence) as well as reducing hospitalizations. Financial incentives are also highly effective in altering health behaviors among disadvantaged populations (e.g., smoking during pregnancy, weight loss) including CR participation in a prior trial. For this study 209 CR-eligible lower-SES patients will be randomized to: a treatment condition where patients are assigned a case manager while in hospital who will facilitate CR attendance and coordinate cardiac care, a treatment condition where patients receive financial incentives contingent on initiation of and continued attendance at CR sessions, a combination of these two interventions, or to a "usual-care" condition. Participants in all conditions will complete pre- and post-treatment assessments. Treatment conditions will be compared on attendance at CR and end-of-intervention improvements in fitness, executive function, and health-related quality of life. Cost effectiveness of the treatment conditions will also be examined by comparing the costs of delivering the interventions and the usual care condition, taking into account increases in CR participation. Furthermore, the value of the interventions will be modeled based on increases in participation rates, intervention costs, long-term medical costs, and health outcomes after a coronary event. This systematic examination of promising interventions will allow testing of the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of approaches that have the potential to substantially increase CR participation and significantly improve health outcomes among lower-SES cardiac patients.
This trial studies how well Young Melanoma Family Facebook intervention or Healthy Lifestyle Facebook intervention works in improving skin examination in participants with melanoma and their families. Young Melanoma Family Facebook intervention or Healthy Lifestyle Facebook intervention may help improve total cutaneous examinations, skin self-examinations, and sun protection among first degree relatives of young onset participants and the participants themselves.
There have been some preliminary studies, primarily in animals, that suggest that exposure to some of the chemicals in our everyday environment, such as the chemicals found in plastics, may cause weight gain. It is not clear whether this also happens in humans, or whether decreasing exposure to these chemicals can improve success with weight loss when people adopt healthy lifestyle changes. The THRIVE Study is a 4-week group healthy lifestyle education program that is designed to determine whether: * changes in dietary habits and the types of personal care products used can decrease a person's exposure to chemicals in our environment that have been suggested to cause weight gain * whether any measurable changes in body composition (fat tissue vs. lean tissue) can be seen as a result of participating in the healthy lifestyle program.
The overall purpose of this application is to evaluate the efficacy of an intervention designed to decrease health disparities in pregnant, emotionally distressed, minority women. This randomized controlled trial will test a six session (spaced over 18 weeks) cognitive behavioral skills building (CBSB) prenatal care intervention (specifically designed and based on prior research for pregnant minority women experiencing emotional distress) at three sites (Jacobi Medical Center, New York City and The Ohio State University Total Health and Wellness Clinic, and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center OB/GYN Columbus, Ohio.
