Breast Cancer Lung Late Effects
Description

Through improved early detection and treatment, the number of long term breast cancer survivors continues to increase. There are now 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. Florida alone adds over 9,000 women to the survivorship pool each year. Most receive radiation treatment (RT) of the affected breast and chest wall to reduce risk of recurrence. Even with advanced radiation techniques for dose conformality to minimize exposure of the highly sensitive lung, 14% of breast cancer patients treated with radiation develop clinical pulmonary toxicity, with 4% overall experiencing high grade clinical toxicity. Early diagnosis and intervention to mitigate lung radiation toxicity is increasingly important for the long term care of these survivors. The investigators' goal is to better identify breast cancer patients at high risk for experiencing severe pulmonary toxicity requiring medical intervention, provide a means to identify toxicity early on, and tailor treatment and/or early intervention on a per-patient basis.

Tissue Procurement and Natural History Study of People With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, Small Cell Lung Cancer, Extrapulmonary Small Cell Cancer, Pulmonary Neuroendocrine Tumors, and Thymic Epithelial Tumors
Description

Background: - Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. It causes more than one million deaths every year. Researchers want to gather tissue samples from people with lung and thymic cancers to understand the disease better. This may lead to new ways to diagnose and treat it. Objective: - To collect tissue samples for use in the study of lung cancers. Eligibility: - Adults over age 18 with non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, extra pulmonary small cell cancer, pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors, and thymic epithelial tumors. Design: * Participants will be screened with a medical history, physical exam, and blood tests. They will be asked about how they perform their daily tasks. * Participants may be asked to give urine and blood samples. They may give a saliva sample if they cannot give blood. They will also give a sample of their tumor from a biopsy they had. They may also be given the option to undergo a biopsy. * Participants may have MRI, CT, and/or PET scans of the body. They will lie in a machine that takes pictures of the body. * After visits to the Clinical Center end, researchers will contact participants by phone every year to check on their health.

Description

RATIONALE: Zoledronate, vitamin D and calcium may prevent or delay bone pain and other symptoms caused by bone metastases. It is not yet known whether giving zoledronate together with vitamin D and calcium is more effective with or without strontium 89 or samarium 153 in treating patients with bone metastases from prostate cancer, lung cancer, or breast cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying zoledronate, vitamin D, and calcium to see how well they work compared to zoledronate, vitamin D, calcium, and either strontium 89 or samarium 153 in preventing or delaying bone problems in patients with bone metastases from prostate cancer, lung cancer, or breast cancer.

A Stepped Care Intervention to Reduce Disparities in Mental Health Services Among Cancer Patients and Caregivers
Description

Medically under-served (i.e., low-income, uninsured, underinsured) cancer patients generally encounter significant disparities in accessing care for their mental health needs while undergoing toxic treatments that provide considerable physical and emotional stress. Thus, the investigators propose to adapt evidence-based strategies to a stepped-care intervention model to address the mental health needs of under-served lung cancer (LC) and head and neck cancer (HNC) patients and their caregivers across several levels of symptom severity (e.g., mild, moderate, or severe symptoms of depression and anxiety).

Analysis of Lung Cancer Tissue With Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging
Description

This study investigates if a new imaging device can detect different types of lung tissue using spatial frequency domain imaging (SFDI). Specifically, this study aims to detect lung nodules within normal lung tissue and determine if lung nodules are cancerous. Patients who have confirmed or suspected lung nodules and who are undergoing resection of those nodules will be recruited for the study. Study participants will undergo standard of care lung nodule resection in the operating room, and the resected specimen will be imaged using the SFDI device immediately after removal from the surgical field. The data captured from the SFDI images will then be compared to the pathology findings to identify optical properties of normal and cancerous lung tissue. Because the intervention is conducted on resected biospecimens, this study yields minimal risk to participants.

Precision Lung Cancer Survivorship Care Intervention
Description

The overarching goal of the Kentucky LEADS Collaborative Lung Cancer Survivorship Care program is to reduce the burden of lung cancer by offering an innovative survivorship care approach that improves lung cancer quality of life, overcomes lung cancer stigma, and helps survivors engage with care. The project involves a two-group parallel randomized clinical trial comparing the impact of the Kentucky LEADS Collaborative Lung Cancer Survivorship Care program (KLCLCSC) among lung cancer survivors (N=300) against an enhanced usual care condition (bibliotherapy+assessment) on quality of life outcomes.

The purpose of this study is to assess the performance and safety of Biology-Guided Radiotherapy (BgRT) using the RefleXion Medical Radiotherapy System (RMRS) via optimizing F18-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) dosing, assessing the performance of the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging subsystem for BgRT treatment planning and delivery, including its role as an interlock, and validating the dose delivery performance of the end-to-end BgRT workflow.

Exercise Effect on Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathic Pain
Description

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) continues to be a serious healthcare concern. It is painful, persistent, resistant to conventional pain therapies, and results in long-term suffering and decreased quality of life for many cancer survivors. The role of exercise to decrease CIPN-related neuropathic pain (CIPN-NP) will be investigated, with the goal of identifying the mechanisms associated with this therapeutic approach to manage CIPN-NP.

Identification of Prognostic Biomarkers for Progression of Invasive Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Description

The study will utilize both retrospective and prospective data collection from patients that already had a bronchoscopy and lung resection or will have a bronchoscopy and lung resection for squamous cell carcinoma. The investigators plan to prospectively collect 5 bronchoscopic biopsies, 10ml blood and one tumor and adjacent normal samples from 200 qualified patients who meet the study criteria.

Study of AVE0005 (VEGF Trap) in Locally Advanced or Metastatic Platinum- and Erlotinib- Resistant Non-small-cell-lung Adenocarcinoma
Description

This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of aflibercept in the treatment of participants with advanced chemoresistant non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma (NSCLA). Primary objective: * To determine the overall objective response rate (ORR) of AVE0005 (ziv-aflibercept, aflibercept, VEGF trap, ZALTRAP®) 4.0 mg/kg intravenously (IV) every 2 weeks in participants with platinum- and erlotinib-resistant, locally advanced or metastatic NSCLA. Secondary objective: * To assess duration of response (DR), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) in this participant population * To evaluate the safety profile of IV AVE0005 (ziv-aflibercept, aflibercept, VEGF trap, ZALTRAP®). This study employed an Independent Review Committee (IRC) for radiological tumor assessments. For all tumor assessment-related efficacy variables, two analyses were performed: the primary analysis was based on Independent Review Committee (IRC) reviewed data and the secondary analysis was based on Investigator evaluation. In addition, both Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors (RECIST) and Modified Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors (mRECIST) were used to assess tumors. Where as RECIST criteria only consider the longest diameter of the tumors for calculations pertaining to changes in tumor size, mRECIST assessments also account for the differences in the cavities of lesions observed in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Responses based on RECIST and mRECIST are reported.

Motexafin Gadolinium and Doxorubicin in Treating Patients With Advanced Cancer
Description

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Motexafin gadolinium may increase the effectiveness of doxorubicin by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drug. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combining motexafin gadolinium with doxorubicin in treating patients who have recurrent or metastatic cancer.

Robotic Bronchoscopy With Cone CT and Indocyanine Green to Aid Removal of Lung Lesions in Patients With Stage I Non-small Cell Lung Cancer or Lung Metastases, REPLACING Study
Description

This phase II trial studies the use of Ion robotic bronchoscope with a mobile computed tomography (CT) scanner to biopsy tumors and inject a fluorescent dye called indocyanine green to mark the tumor during surgery in patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer or cancer that has spread to the lung (lung metastases). Sometimes small tumors or those that are not on the surface of the lung can be challenging to remove without making larger incisions. Injecting the dye, may help doctors see the tumor more easily, which may allow for smaller incisions and by being able to see the tumor, doctors may be better able to decide where to make the incisions in order to get all of the tumor out.

Study of Aerosol Gemcitabine in Patients With Solid Tumors and Pulmonary Metastases
Description

Any time the words "you," "your," "I," or "me" appear, it is meant to apply to the potential participant. The goal of this clinical research study is to find the highest tolerable dose of gemcitabine that can be given by inhalation (breathing it as a mist) to patients with solid tumors that have spread to the lungs from other parts of the body. The safety and side effects of this drug will also be studied. This is an investigational study. Gemcitabine is FDA approved and commercially available for the treatment of pancreatic and lung cancer, and other solid tumors. Its administration by inhalation is investigational. The study doctor can explain how the study drug is designed to work. Up to 44 participants will be enrolled in this study. All will take part at MD Anderson.

CT Perfusion Imaging in Predicting Treatment Response in Patients With Non-small Cell Lung Cancer or Lung Metastases Treated With Stereotactic Ablative Radiation Therapy
Description

This study assesses computed tomography (CT) perfusion imaging in predicting treatment response in patients with non-small cell lung cancer or tumors that have spread from the primary site (place where it started) to the lungs (metastases) treated with stereotactic ablative radiation therapy. CT perfusion imaging is a special type of CT that uses an injected dye in order to see how blood flow through tissues, including lung tissue. CT perfusion imaging of the lungs may help doctors learn whether perfusion characteristics of lung tumors may be predictive of response to treatment and whether lung perfusion characteristics can be used to follow response to treatment.

Video-Assisted Intervention in Improving Recovery in Patients With Cancer Undergoing Lung Surgery and Caregivers
Description

This pilot clinical trial studies a video-assisted intervention in improving recovery of patients undergoing surgery to remove lung cancer or cancer that has spread to the lung and their caregivers. The intervention uses educational videos to prepare patients and families for surgery and teach them how to manage the symptoms after surgery. Teaching patients and their families what to expect before and after surgery may help improve patient and caregiver quality of life, help patients recover better from surgery, and support families in their role as caregivers after surgery.

Cisplatin in Treating Patients With Stage IIIB-IV Non-small Cell Lung Cancer or Lung Metastasis
Description

This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of cisplatin in treating patients with stage IIIB-IV non-small cell lung cancer or tumors that have spread from where they started to the lung (metastasis). Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving cisplatin directly into the arteries around the tumor may kill more tumor cells and cause less damage to normal tissue.

One class of CT-100 components are Digital Neuro-activation and Modulation (DiNaMo) components. DiNaMo components target key neural systems (including but not limited to systems related to sensory-, perceptual-, affective-, pain-, attention-, cognitive control, social- and self-processing) to optimally improve a participant's health.

A Study of Sigvotatug Vedotin Versus Docetaxel in Previously Treated Non-small Cell Lung Cancer (Be6A Lung-01).
Description

This clinical trial is studying nonsquamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Participants in this study must have cancer that has spread through their body or can't be removed with surgery. Participants in this study must have been treated with no more than a platinum-based chemotherapy and an anti-PD-(L)1 drug. Participants with tumors that have certain treatable genomic alterations must have had at least 1 drug for that genomic alteration, in addition to platinum-based chemotherapy. This clinical trial uses an experimental drug called sigvotatug vedotin, which is a type of antibody drug conjugate or ADC. ADCs are designed to stick to cancer cells and kill them. This clinical trial also uses a drug called docetaxel. Docetaxel is an anticancer drug that has been approved to treat non-small cell lung cancer. It is usually given to patients who previously received another anticancer treatment. In this study, one group of participants will get sigvotatug vedotin on Days 1 and 15 during each 28-day-cycle. A second group of participants will get docetaxel on Day 1 during each 21-day cycle. This study is being done to see if sigvotatug vedotin works better than docetaxel to treat participants with NSCLC. This study will also test what side effects happen when participants take these drugs. A side effect is anything a drug does to the body besides treating the disease.

Transarterial Chemoembolization for the Treatment of Lung Cancer and Lung Metastases
Description

This phase II trial evaluates how well transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) works for treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer or lung metastases. TACE is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting chemotherapy directly into an artery that supplies blood to tumors, and then blocking off the blood supply to the tumors. Mitomycin (chemotherapy), Lipiodol (drug carrier), and Embospheres (small plastic beads that block off the artery) are injected into the tumor-feeding artery. This traps the chemotherapy inside the tumor and also cuts off the tumor\'s blood supply. As a result, the tumor is exposed to a high dose of chemotherapy, and is also deprived of nutrients and oxygen. TACE can be effective at controlling or stopping the growth of lung tumors.
