10 Clinical Trials for Various Conditions
Background: Pregnant women can get a DNA analysis of their blood. The test tells a woman and her doctor about the DNA of her unborn baby. But some women get test results that are abnormal or not reportable. Researchers want to learn more about the relationship between these test results and cancer. Objective: To better understand prenatal DNA test results and how they can predict cancer, if present, in pregnant women. Eligibility: Women 18 and older who got prenatal DNA test results that were abnormal or not reportable and suggested the abnormality was in the woman and not her baby. Design: Potential participants will be screened by phone or in person. They will talk about their medical history and send copies of their medical records. Eligible participants will have a physical exam and medical history. They will give blood and stool samples. They may have a Pap smear. They will talk to a specialist about the test results they got when they were pregnant. Participants will have magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). They will lie on a table that slides in and out of a metal tube, taking pictures. Participants will complete a paper or electronic survey. It will assess their emotional well-being. Participants will get a list of any possible diagnoses and treatment options. Participants may be followed for up to 5 years. They may give blood samples and copies of their medical records. This can be done without traveling to the NIH. In some cases, people might come back to the NIH in one year to see if anything has changed.
The objective of this study is to follow the treatment options offered to pregnant women diagnosed with cancer and study the impact that their treatment or delay of treatment has on their own health and that of their children.
The aims of this study are to determine the differential coping strategies used by adolescent daughters whose mothers have breast cancer, and how this relates to the stress responses they exhibit.
The DREAM Cohort is a longitudinal observational study developed to enhance our understanding of how multiple exposures to environmental chemicals and pollutants across a diverse population of pregnant women and their offspring are linked to cancer risks. Because pregnancy induces multiple maternal hormonal and physiological changes that can increase cancer susceptibility to environmental chemical exposures, this study will focus on pregnancy as a period of particular vulnerability to toxic agents.
The purpose of this study is to help mothers of children with cancer to cope more effectively by increasing their problem-solving skills.
This pilot clinical trial aims to integrate maternal smoking cessation and breastfeeding interventions to enhance both cancer prevention behaviors. The investigators will recruit 40 daily smoking women in their early pregnancy and randomize them into the integrated intervention or control group. Main outcomes include smoking abstinence and breastfeeding rates at 6 months postpartum.
This NCI-funded randomized clinical trial (RCT) will test the short-term efficacy of Conexiones, a culturally adapted cancer education program designed to help Hispanic mothers diagnosed with cancer and their children to cope with cancer.
To explore maternal biological (activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis) and behavioral (smoking, sleep behavior, exercise and alcohol use) pathways of intervention-related decreases in inflammation. Hypothesis: The intervention group will show decreased levels of cortisol and improved health behaviors from pre- to post-intervention when compared with the control group. We will also explore whether intervention-related changes in these parameters predict symptoms of illness. Exploratory Aim 2. To explore psychological pathways of intervention-related decreases in distress among mothers, including the perception of social support and the use of behavioral coping strategies that are components of the intervention. Hypothesis: Increases in perceived social support and use of active behavioral coping strategies will be associated with intervention-related decreases in symptoms of depression, anxiety and psychological stress.
In this trial, we aim to improve the outcomes of haplo cord transplant. Haplo cord transplant is a novel and promising way to improve transplant outcomes. We hypothesize that identification of a graft that is at least 5/6 matched and inherited paternal antigen (IPA) targeted (i.e., cord blood grafts share one or more IPA antigens with the prospective recipient) is more important to the outcome of haplo cord transplant than the nucleated cell dose. The identification of such a graft for a large proportion of the subjects may necessitate accepting a lower umbilical cord graft dose. In addition to a umbilical cord blood transplant, recipients will receive stem cells from a family member ( a haplo-identical donor) . After collection and prior to infusion, these cells will be purified using a device called a CliniMACS CD34 selection device. The subject will undergo a chemotherapy conditioning regimen prior to transplantation. No experimental drugs are used in this study, and the combinations of drugs that will be used in the conditioning regimen are combinations that have been used in the past.
This study will examine levels of hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone, in maternal and umbilical cord blood to compare hormones between mothers who are having twins and mothers who are having one baby. It will investigate whether hormone levels in twin versus singleton pregnancies influence the babies' risk of developing breast, prostate, and testicular cancers later in life. Pregnant women 18 years of age and older who do not have preeclampsia, chronic hypertension, pre-pregnancy or gestational diabetes, thyroid disease, or other major pregnancy complications are eligible for this study. Participants will be recruited from the obstetrics and gynecology practice at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Participants will have a blood sample drawn from their arm during their third trimester prenatal visit and again when they are admitted to the hospital for delivery. After the baby is born, a blood sample will be collected from the cut umbilical cord. Information about the pregnancy and delivery will be collected from the mother's medical chart, and information about the baby's size will be obtained from the baby's medical chart.
