Effect of a Cepham Supplement on Hot Flashes and Menopausal Symptoms in Postmenopausal Women
Description

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if a daily nutritional supplement can reduce hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms in postmenopausal women. The main questions this study aims to answer are: Does the supplement reduce the number and severity of daily hot flashes? Does it improve other common menopausal symptoms? Researchers will compare the supplement to a placebo (a look-alike capsule with no active ingredients) to see if it helps manage symptoms during menopause. Participants will: Take either the supplement or a placebo daily for 30 days Track their hot flashes each day using a short online survey Complete a symptom questionnaire at the beginning and end of the study This study is for women ages 40-60 who have been postmenopausal for at least one year and currently experience bothersome hot flashes.

Description

The purpose of the study is to compare the possible efficacy and acceptability of two mobile health applications for the reduction of hot flashes and related symptoms.This study is completely remote, and participants will be be asked to engage with a mobile health application daily for five weeks and provide feedback and experience with the app.

Hot Water Therapy for the Treatment of Menopause-related Hot Flashes
Description

The purpose of this research is to determine whether hot water therapy (i.e. taking prolonged hot baths on multiple consecutive days) decreases hot flash symptoms and improves mood in women who are undergoing or who have underwent menopause. It is hypothesized that women who undergo hot water therapy will have reduced hot flash symptoms and improved mood. Initial tracking period: Women who volunteer to participate in this study will be asked to track the frequency and intensity of their hot flash and other menopause-related symptoms for an initial two week period. Afterwards, they will start their heat therapy program. Physiological assessments: On days 1, 7, and 13 of the heat therapy sessions, the participants will enter a climate controlled room to have their thermoregulatory responses assessed. This will consist of slowly walking on a motorized treadmill in 99.5°F (37.5°C) and 30% relative humidity conditions, for 30 min, after which the humidity in the climate chamber will be progressively increased until their core temperature begins to increase (\~2 hour total time). Before and/or during these trials, core temperature, heart rate, whole-body sweat losses, thermal comfort, local sweat rate, and skin blood flow will be measured, and a 6 ml (\~1 tsp) blood sample will be taken, to assess how the participants respond to the heat stress. These sessions should take less than 3 hours to complete. Hot water therapy sessions: Upon enrolling in the study, the participants will be assigned to one of two groups: water bathing at 105°F or 97°F in the lab. On days 2-6 and 8-12 of the therapy sessions, the participants will immerse themselves to a water level at the shoulders for \~30 min, followed by immersion to the hip level for \~60 min (total immersion time of 90 min). Post-intervention tracking period: after completing the heat therapy sessions, the participants will be asked to continue to take baths at home once every 4 days for 1 month. During this time, the participants will be asked to record the intensity and frequency of their hot flashes daily and other menopause-related symptoms weekly. At the end of this month the participants will be given a final exit survey, in order for them to provide the researchers information about their experience participating in the study.

PhytoSERM for Menopausal Hot Flashes and Sustained Brain Health
Description

This is a proof-of-concept phase 2 clinical trial to investigate the effect of the phytoestrogenic supplement PhytoSERM on vasomotor symptoms and other symptoms associated with the menopausal transition, and on blood-based biomarkers in peri- and postmenopausal women. After the screening period, participants will be randomized to PhytoSERM 50 mg pills (administered orally, once per day) or matching placebo, 1:1 allocation, for a period of 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, all participants in the placebo group will be crossed-over to receive PhytoSERM pills for the remainder of the study (open-label phase).

A Study Following Women in Menopause Treated With a Non-hormonal Therapy for Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
Description

Hot flashes and night sweats (also known as vasomotor symptoms or VMS) are the most common symptoms which bother women in menopause. This study will follow women going through menopause who have hot flashes and night sweats that cause them bother. They will be starting a non-hormonal therapy prescribed by their healthcare provider (HCP) to treat these symptoms. The women will visit their HCP's office, research center, or both. They will receive prescriptions for the non-hormonal therapy from their HCP for up to 1 year. This real-world study will provide information on outcomes from various non-hormonal therapies. The study sponsor (Astellas) will not decide which therapy the women receive. However, the sponsor will provide instructions on when the women visit their clinic, and what is recorded during the study. Some of the visits will be in-person, but most will be virtual. The virtual visits can be carried out at home using a smartphone, tablet or computer. The main aim of the study is to check if the hot flashes and night sweats that bother women change after 12 weeks (3 months) of treatment. The study will also check the women's sleep patterns, their productivity at work, and their general well-being before and after starting treatment. The overall safety of the non-hormonal therapies will also be examined.

The Cardiovascular Impact of Hot Flushes
Description

The overall objective of this study is to examine the physiological responses that occur during a hot flush in postmenopausal women. The following specific aims will be executed to reach the overall objective of this study. Aim 1: To determine if hot flushes can be reliably induced with a temperature-controlled, water- circulating (TCWC) heating pad. Based on previous research, the investigators hypothesize that hot flushes will be inducible with the TCWC in symptomatic women, but not in asymptomatic women. Aim 2: To determine if heat-induced hot flushes in symptomatic women will cause reproducible cardiovascular and respiratory responses. The investigators hypothesize that heat-induced hot flushes produce similar and reproducible cardiovascular and respiratory responses to spontaneous hot flushes. Aim 3: To determine if body fat percentage influences hot flush severity or frequency during spontaneous or induced hot flushes. The investigators hypothesize that women with higher body fat have reduced hot flash severity and frequency.

Women who experience hot flashes are at greater risk for hypertension and other cardiovascular disease. Neurovascular control mechanisms are likely to play an important role in this relationship. As such, these studies are designed to provide a major step forward in understanding the link between hot flashes and neurovascular dysfunction and, by extension, cardiovascular disease in women.

Researchers are looking for a better way to treat women who have hot flashes after women have been through the menopause. Hot flashes are caused by the hormonal changes that happen when a woman's body has been through the menopause. Menopause is when women stop having a menstrual cycle, also called a period. During the menopause, the ovaries increasingly produce less sex hormones as a result of the natural ageing process and related hormonal adjustments. The decline in hormone production can lead to various symptoms which, in some cases, can have a very adverse effect on a menopausal woman's quality of life. The study treatment, elinzanetant, was developed to treat symptoms caused by hormonal changes. It works by blocking a protein called neurokinin from sending signals to other parts of the body, which is thought to play a role in starting hot flashes. There are treatments for hot flashes in women who have been through the menopause, but may cause medical problems for some people. In this study, the researchers will learn how well elinzanetant works compared to a placebo in women who have been through the menopause and have hot flashes. A placebo looks like a treatment but does not have any medicine in it. To compare these study treatments, the doctors will ask the participants to record information about the participants' hot flashes in an electronic diary. The researchers will study the number of hot flashes the participants have and how severe the hot flashes are. The researchers will look at the results from before treatment, after 4 weeks, and after 12 weeks of treatment. The participants in this study will take two capsules of either elinzanetant or the placebo once a day. The participants who take elinzanetant will take it for 26 weeks. The participants who take the placebo will take it for 12 weeks and then take elinzanetant for the next 14 weeks. During the study, the participants will visit the site approximately 9 times and perform 1 visit by phone. Each participant will be in the study for approximately 36 weeks. The treatment duration will be 26 weeks. During the study, the participants will: * record information about the participants' hot flashes in an electronic diary * answer questions about the participants' symptoms The doctors will: * check the participants' health * take blood samples * ask the participants questions about what medicines the participants are taking and if the participants are having adverse events An adverse event is any medical problem that a participant has during a study. A Study to Find Out How Safe Long-term Treatment With Fezolinetant is in Women With Hot Flashes Going Through Menopause
Description

This study was for women in menopause with hot flashes. Menopause, a normal part of aging, was the time of a woman's last period. Hot flashes can interrupt a woman's daily life. The purpose of this study was to find out how safe it is for these women to take fezolinetant in long term (up to 52 weeks). To do that, the study looked at the number and severity of the "adverse events." Those were the side effects that study participants had while they were in the study. The study treatments were fezolinetant 30 milligrams (mg) (1 tablet of fezolinetant and 1 placebo tablet) once a day, fezolinetant 45 mg (2 tablets of fezolinetant) once a day or placebo (2 tablets) once a day. (Placebo was a dummy treatment that looked like medicine but did not have any medicine in it.) Women in this study were picked for 1 of the 3 study treatments by chance alone. The study participants took study treatment for 52 weeks. This study was "double-blinded." That means that the study participants and the study doctors did not know who took which of the study treatments (fezolinetant 30 mg, fezolinetant 45 mg or placebo). At weeks 2 and 4 and then once a month, the study participants went to the hospital or clinic for a check-up. They were asked about medications, side effects and how they felt. Other checks included physical exam and vital signs (heart rate, temperature and blood pressure). Blood and urine were collected for laboratory tests. At some study visits, study participants completed questionnaires that were about their quality of life. At the first and last study visits, they had a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA for short) test done. To measure bone loss in the hips and spine, DXA created pictures of the inside of these areas with low-dose x-rays. (The dose was approximately one-tenth of the amount of a normal chest x-ray.) Study participants who still had their uterus had 2 more tests done at the first and last study visits. One of the 2 tests was endometrial biopsy. This test involved removing a small amount of tissue from the inside lining of the uterus. The tissue was then checked under a microscope. The other test was transvaginal ultrasound. It used sound waves to create pictures of the organs in the pelvis. The sound waves were transmitted by a probe (transducer), which was placed inside the vagina. Study participants might have had a screening mammogram done at the first and/or last study visit. A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breasts used to screen for breast cancer. Study participants who did not had this test done in the last 12 months had it done at the first study visit. They had done at the last study visit if they were due for their screening mammogram and their own doctor agreed. The last check-up at the hospital or clinic was at 3 weeks after the last dose of study treatment.

Next, they were picked for 1 of the 2 study treatments (fezolinetant or placebo) by chance alone. It was like flipping a coin. The study participants took study treatment for 52 weeks. The first 12 weeks of study treatment are "double-blinded." That means that the study participants and the study doctors did not knew who took which of the study treatments (fezolinetant 30 mg, fezolinetant 45 mg or placebo) during that time. The last 40 weeks of study treatment are "noncontrolled." That means that each study participant and the study doctors knew which study treatment that study participant took during that time. Women who took fezolinetant during the first 12 weeks continued to take the same dose. Women who took placebo during the first 12 weeks took fezolinetant. Their dose was either 30 mg or 45 mg fezolinetant. At weeks 2, 4, 8, 12, 14, 16 and then once a month, the study participants visited the hospital or clinic for a check-up. Validation of an Objective Instrument to Measure Hot Flashes During Menopause
Description

The overarching aim of this study is to assess the validity of the iButton®, a dual temperature and humidity sensing device (DS1923; Maxim IntegratedTM), as an objective method to assess hot flash incidence and dynamics in both a real world (ambulatory) and controlled (laboratory) setting. This study will test the overarching hypothesis that both self-report hot flashes in both an ambulatory and laboratory setting will correlate (confirm) the temperature and humidity sensing observed via the iButton® technology.

A Study of the Safety and Effect of Repeated Administration of G-CSF on Hot Flashes in Postmenopausal Women

The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of repeated administration of G-CSF for the treatment of hot flashes and vasomotor symptoms in women with naturally-occurring or surgically induced menopause. G-CSF will be administered three times at 28 day intervals to postmenopausal women, ages 40 to 65, suffering at least 49 moderate to severe hot flashes per week.

Impact of Hot Flashes on Sleep and Mood Disturbance
Description

We plan to enroll premenopausal women in a trial investigating the impact of hot flashes developed in response to an injection of a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa), leuprolide (brand name: Lupron), on sleep disruption and mood. This study is designed to mimic the menopause transition. We will collect data on sleep disruption and mood changes to assess their relationship to the development of hot flashes.

Effect of Yoga on Objective and Subjective Menopausal Hot Flashes
Description

The purpose of this research study is to compare yoga and health and wellness classes for helping perimenopausal or newly postmenopausal women who are experiencing hot flashes. The investigators want to learn about the effects of yoga and health and wellness classes on symptoms and other quality of life issues. The results of this study may provide important knowledge to women and clinicians who counsel women with menopausal hot flashes.

Pilot Study of Stellate Ganglion Injection to Provide Relief From Hot Flushes
Description

This study is being done to determine whether stellate ganglion injection with local anesthetic (the study procedure) can reduce the number and severity of hot flashes in women who have hot flashes. Hot flashes can have a significant impact on daily living, disrupt sleep, and lead to fatigue and irritability during the day. Hot flashes are the most common reason that women seek hormonal therapy. However, for many women, including breast cancer survivors, this is rarely an option, and these women seek alternatives to hormonal therapy to treat hot flashes. The study procedure has been in clinical use for more than fifty years in treating certain disease states and chronic pain. The study procedure has not been used to relieve hot flashes and the use of the study procedure with local anesthetic for the reduction of hot flushes is considered experimental.
