8 Clinical Trials for Various Conditions
This program aims to help Veterans who take antipsychotic medications lose weight. We use a program based on the American Diabetes Association's "Diabetes Prevention Program," and we have modified it to fit the lifestyles of people with mental illness. All participants are educated about nutrition and cutting down fat intake, how and when to exercise, and the causes of diabetes and how to prevent it. Participants must be Veterans who live within one hour of the Long Beach, West Los Angeles, Sepulveda, or West Los Angeles VA hospitals.

This study seeks to examine the effectiveness of translating two proven interventions, RESPECT, and the NIDA Community Based Outreach Model, into one program of education, PATH, to be delivered by case managers to their seriously mentally ill, substance abusing clients. The objective is to teach case managers to assess the specific risk profiles of their clients, and then create a plan of intervention aimed at reducing high risk sexual and substance abusing behaviors.
The proposed project aims to pilot and adapt a scalable and sustainable interactive obesity treatment approach (iOTA) program for adults with serious mental illness (SMI). The project consists of 2 arms: the iOTA SMI arm and the Health Education Control Group arm. The investigators hypothesize that participants in the iOTA intervention group will show favorable change in BMI compared to participants in the Health Education Control group, and participants in the iOTA intervention group will show favorable change in self efficacy with respect to healthy eating and activity compared to those in the Health Education Control group.
Many homeless Veterans with serious mental illness (SMI) enroll in the VA's Supported Housing (VASH) program but struggle to obtain and sustain housing. Social skills are an important-but underappreciated-determinant of housing outcomes for homeless adults. The investigators hypothesize that homeless Veterans with SMI who participate in a social skills training program, tailored for housing-related social skills, will obtain housing quicker, retain housing longer, and show improved mental health outcomes compared to Veterans with similar needs not participating in such a program.
The purpose of this study is to find out how prevalent unidentified Mental Health issues are in the pediatric population that visits the Emergency Department in an urban city.
The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of USES, a strengths-based enhancement to supported employment (SE), as compared to supported employment alone.
