A Randomized Trial to Assess Patient Quality of Life and Function After Alternative Surgeries for Pathologic Fractures of the Femur
Description

The purpose of this study is to look at two different types of surgeries regularly used for treating cancer that has spread to and weakened the thigh bone (femur). Because it is not known which of these surgeries is best, the investigators will compare the results of the two procedures. They are looking to see if differences exist (after surgery) in function, quality of life, pain control, and possible complications.

COMPLETED
Clinical Evaluation of the Crosstrees Pod™ in the Treatment of Pathologic Fracture of the Vertebral Body (Levels T4 - L5) in Adult Patients
Description

The clinical trial is being conducted to evaluate the performance of the Crosstrees System in reducing pain and decreasing the risk of cement leakage associated with vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty.

RECRUITING
IlluminOss Photodynamic Bone Stabilization System for the Treatment of Impending and Actual Pelvis Fractures
Description

The aim of this project is to assess the effectiveness of the IlluminOss pelvic implants in patients with pelvic metastatic disease presenting with pain, risk of pathologic fracture, non-displaced or minimally displaced pathologic fracture of the pelvis, and geriatric patients with pelvic fragility fractures. Results from this study will be used to confirm preliminary clinically and possibly statistically significant reductions in pain and improvements in function among these patients.

COMPLETED
Dalteparin in Preventing DVT in Participants With Cancer
Description

This trial studies how well dalteparin works in preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) (blood clots) in participants with cancer. Dalteparin is a blood thinner that can treat blood clots and may prevent them from forming.

COMPLETED
Tivantinib in Treating Patients With Relapsed, or Relapsed and Refractory Multiple Myeloma
Description

This phase II trial studies the side effects and how well tivantinib works in treating patients with relapsed, or relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma. Tivantinib may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.

Endoprosthetic Replacement for Pathological Fractures of the Hip: A 35-year Update
Description

This study will be based on a retrospective review of patients who received endoprosthetic reconstruction for pathologic fracture of the proximal femur. The objectives would be two-fold: (1) to compare rates ofambulation, pain, and survival to the historic cohort and (2) to identify predictors of ambulation in the current population.
