Pediatric Urology Recovery After Surgery Endeavor (PURSUE)
Description

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol in children and young adults undergoing urologic reconstructive surgery. The investigators plan to collect data on speed of recovery (how quickly pain improves, length of time in the hospital, and the need for additional pain control) on patients who receive care under the ERAS protocol and compare it to historical controls.

Pediatric Robotic Versus Open Pyeloplasty
Description

The objective is conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial comparing robotic and open techniques for surgical correction of congenital UPJ obstruction (pyeloplasty) in pediatric patients. This study will serve as a proof of concept trial to demonstrate feasibility of recruiting pediatric patients to participate in a randomized study for surgical procedures and delineate patient-centered outcomes. Should this study prove randomization is feasible, a randomized comparative effectiveness trial with sufficient power to determine whether open or robotic-assisted pyeloplasty has superior patient-centered outcomes will be pursued.

Safety of Short-course of NSAIDs in Pediatric Patients With CKD
Description

The purpose of this study is to determine if non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) use in the postoperative setting increases the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in pediatric patients with mild-to-moderate chronic kidney disease (CKD). The investigators hypothesize that there is no increased risk. This will be a limited pilot study within a Pediatric Urology population, intended to inform future work in a larger patient population.

Prospective Pediatric Vesicoureteral Reflux Surgery Database
Description

The purpose of this research is to provide a clearer understanding of quality and outcomes for three types of surgical procedures performed at Connecticut Children's for treatment of vesicoureteral reflux. In order to consistently gather data over time, the investigators propose to establish database for surgical intervention for vesicoureteral reflux. Specific Aim 1: To consistently collect performance and outcomes data for the surgical treatment of vesicoureteral reflux in order to increase internal understanding of these procedures. Specific Aim2: To consistently collect performance and outcomes data for the surgical treatment of vesicoureteral reflux in order to perform more valuable clinical analysis for publication.
