Utilization of iMRI for Transsphenoidal Resection of Pituitary Macroadenomas
Description

The investigators are studying the utility of intra-operative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) during transsphenoidal pituitary surgery for large macroadenomas by randomizing patients to either an intra-operative MRI after resection, or no intra-operative MRI. The investigators will then count the number of gross total resection in each group of patients and also the complications related to surgery.

TERMINATED
Radioactive Iodine Implants for Pan-invasive Pituitary Macroadenomas
Description

This study is a single arm Phase II pilot trial. Patients enrolled on the trial will undergo implantation of high activity iodine-125 seeds into their pituitary adenoma. The tumor response to treatment will be monitored as well as change in visual fields, associated adverse effects, progression free survival and patient reported outcomes.

UNKNOWN
Characterization of Receptors in Non-functioning Pituitary Macroadenomas
Description

Characterization of receptors present in non-functioning pituitary macroadenomas by Reverse Transcriptase- Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) would assist with targeted medical therapy based on the information obtained by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR.

Exploratory Study of Farletuzumab to Treat Resectable, Non-functioning Pituitary Adenomas
Description

The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether therapy with farletuzumab is effective and safe in the treatment of resectable, non-functioning pituitary adenomas.

TERMINATED
Validation of a Quality of Life Metric "Prolac-10"
Description

This is a short-term validation study of a quality of life metric "Prolac-10" for patients diagnosed with a prolactinoma, undergoing new medical therapy.

COMPLETED
Sandostatin LAR Depot vs. Surgery for Treating Acromegaly
Description

The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of Sandostatin LAR® (Registered Trademark) Depot to transsphenoidal surgery in previously untreated acromegalic patients with macroadenomas. The primary goal is to normalize insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels. Secondary goals are to compare Sandostatin LAR® (Registered Trademark) Depot treatment and transsphenoidal surgery to achieve the following goals: suppress growth hormone levels to less than or equal to 2.5 ng/mL, relieve the clinical signs and symptoms of acromegaly, reduce the size of the macroadenomas, produce few side effects, assess the prognostic value of baseline pituitary adenoma size, extension and baseline growth hormone level on post-treatment growth hormone and IGF-1 levels, and assess the resource utilization of each treatment type.
