Experiences With New Digital Surgical Drainage System in Thoracic Surgery
Description

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Thoraguard Surgical Drainage System in a real-world clinical environment. It is believed that this system will offer functional and clinical benefits over the current standard of care system for the removal of surgical fluids and air following thoracic surgery. Observations, experiences, and outcomes in a single hospital setting will be collected for the Thoraguard Surgical Drainage System.

Spiration Valves Against Standard Therapy
Description

VAST is a multicenter, prospective, randomized, controlled study designed to evaluate treatment of persistent air leak with the SVS as compared to standard chest tube drainage management and other standard-of-care interventions in the control group. Eligible subjects will be randomized to receive either Spiration Valves (investigational arm) or continue standard-of-care treatment (control arm). Once the air leak has resolved, Spiration Valves should be removed.

Feasibility and Accuracy of a Novel Pleural Drain Gas Analyzer in Detecting Air Leaks
Description

The goal of this study is to assess the clinical feasibility of a novel, reusable, low cost gas analyzer that detects breath in chest drains in order to diagnose and heal air leaks. The investigators have developed prototype gas analyzers that attach to the outlet of any analog chest drain, and can be connected temporarily to the sampling port. They detect breath by measuring CO2, O2, and pressure, in order to supplement the information provided by the bubbles in the water seal.

WITHDRAWN
Pneumostasis With Use of Bio-absorbable Mesh and Fibrin Sealant in Lung Resection
Description

Prolonged air leak, defined as air leak present 5 days after lung resection, is one of the most common complications after lung resection. This leads to patient discomfort (as the chest tube has to stay in place while air leak is present), prolonged stay, and increased cost. NeoVeil is a bioabsorbable glycolic acid which has been used in Japan and other Asian countries for air leak prevention after lung resections. NeoVeil is impregnated with fibrin sealant materials and is placed on the lung surface at the time of operation. It then acts as a scaffold on resected area which is prone to air leak. This randomized clinical trial will be the first in the United States to test its efficacy for air leak prevention.

Prolonged Air Leak (PAL) Autologous Blood Patch Intervention Trial
Description

A postoperative autologous blood patch (ABP) intervention trial for patients who underwent lung resection for cancer to examine its effectiveness in preventing a prolonged air leak. AIM 1: To determine the safety and efficacy of autologous blood patch (ABP) as a means to reduce the rate of prolonged air leak (PAL) after lung cancer resection AIM 2: To prospectively examine variation in morbidity and quality of life between patients with and without a PAL

Progel® Pleural Air Leak Sealant (PALS) in Video and Robotic Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery
Description

The objective of this clinical study is to evaluate the safety of the Progel® PALS, including the Progel® Extended Applicator Spray Tips, in sealing or reducing intraoperative air leaks in patients undergoing video assisted or robotic assisted thoracoscopic (VATS/Robotic) surgeries. The data collected in this clinical study will supplement the Approved PMA P010047 Progel® PALS product.

COMPLETED
NeoMend ProGEL™ Pleural Air Leak Sealant Post-Approval Study
Description

The purpose of this post approval study is to further characterize the safety profile of the ProGEL™ Pleural Air Leak Sealant in commercial use, with specific reference to long-term safety over 90 days of follow-up.

COMPLETED
IBV Valve System for the Treatment of Prolonged Air Leak Under HDE H060002 - Post Approval Study
Description

Study to collect post-market safety data for HUD IBV Valve System, a device to control prolonged air leaks of the lung, or significant air leaks that are likely to become prolonged air leaks following lobectomy, segmentectomy, or LVRS. An air leak present on post-operative day 7 is considered prolonged unless present only during forced exhalation or cough. An air leak present on day 5 should be considered for treatment if it is: 1)continuous, 2) present during normal inhalation phase of inspiration, or 3) present upon normal expiration and accompanied by subcutaneous emphysema or respiratory compromise.

COMPLETED
Evaluation of the Bio-Seal Biopsy Track Plug
Description

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate safety and effectiveness of the Bio-Seal Biopsy Track Plug in a clinical setting for use in lung biopsy procedures to reduce the rate of air leaks, commonly associated with the procedure. The Bio-Seal System is cleared in the U.S. with an indication for use as a lung biopsy site marker.

Evaluation of Leak-Free Bronchoscope Adapter to Limit Ventilated Air Volume Loss During Bronchoscopy
Description

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the ability of a new bronchoscope adapter called "leak-free adapter" to limit the amount of air leaking out to the operating room (OR) from the ventilator in intubated patients who undergo bronchoscopy.
