20 Clinical Trials for Various Conditions
Patients with post-prostatectomy PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) recurrences with aggressive disease features will receive salvage radiation therapy and standard androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) or enhanced ADT to determine if there is any improvement in progression-free survival when enhanced ADT is used compared to standard ADT.
This phase II trial compares how well gallium 68-labeled PSMA-11 positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) works compared to fluciclovine F18 PET/CT in imaging participants with prostate cancer after surgery that has come back. PET is an established imaging technique that uses small amounts of radioactivity and CT images provide an exact outline of organs and potential inflammatory tissue where it occurs in the body. Diagnostic procedures, such as PET/CT with gallium 68-labeled PSMA-11, may work better than PET/CT with fluciclovine F18 in helping find out how far the prostate cancer has spread.
There is significant, proven use of radiation for recurrent prostate cancer after surgical resection. This treatment typically is delivered over seven and a half weeks of daily treatments, presenting a burden to patients and the health care system. Stereotactic body radiation (SBRT) is a radiation technique in which large doses are delivered over a short period of time. To date there is extremely limited evidence in SBRT for recurrent prostate cancer after surgery, with a significantly growing body of evidence for primary SBRT treatment of prostate cancer in men who opt for non-surgical upfront treatment. Additionally, advances in imaging have allowed better detection of the site of recurrence, and novel artificial intelligence aided daily-adaptive radiation therapy have allowed more precise delivery of radiation doses. This study seeks to evaluate the role of Daily-Adaptive with AI-assisted SBRT in the post operative setting utilizing Ethos Plan Adaptive technology in attempt to maintain control and minimize side effects.
This trial studies the side effects and best way to perform genetic testing in predicting biomarkers of recurrence in patients with prostate cancer undergoing surgery. Collecting and storing samples of tissue, blood, and other body fluids from patients to test in the laboratory and collecting information about the patient's health and treatment may help doctors learn more about cancer and help predict the recurrence of prostate cancer
This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of stereotactic body radiation therapy in treating patients with prostate cancer after undergoing surgery. Stereotactic body radiation therapy may be able to send x-rays directly to the tumor and cause less damage to normal tissue.
This randomized pilot phase I trial will evaluate if quercetin enhances the uptake of green tea polyphenols in the prostate tissue of men taking green tea extract and undergoing radical prostatectomy. Side effects of green tea extract and quercetin in combination with green tea extract will also be evaluated. In preclinical studies, green tea polyphenols have anticancer and cancer preventative effects in a number of malignancies. Likewise, in preclinical studies quercetin was found to enhance the anticancer effects of green tea. This trial is designed to translate these findings forward in a short-term human intervention trial.
This randomized phase II trial studies how well metformin hydrochloride works compared to placebo in treating patients with prostate cancer undergoing surgery. Metformin hydrochloride may make some enzymes active. These enzymes may block other enzymes needed for cell growth and stop the growth of tumor cells.
RATIONALE: Green tea contains ingredients that may prevent or slow the growth of certain cancers. It is not yet known whether green tea is more effective than black tea or water in treating prostate cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying green tea to see how well it works compared with black tea and water in treating patients with prostate cancer undergoing surgery.
RATIONALE: Calcitriol may help tumor cells develop into normal cells. Dexamethasone may increase the effectiveness of calcitriol by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drug. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining calcitriol with dexamethasone in treating patients with prostate cancer who have undergone surgery or radiation therapy.
RATIONALE: Cyproterone acetate may be effective treatment for hot flashes following surgical or chemical castration for prostate cancer. It is not yet known which regimen of cyproterone acetate is more effective for hot flashes. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of cyproterone acetate in treating patients who have hot flashes following surgical or chemical castration for prostate cancer.
RATIONALE: Prostatectomy may be an effective treatment for prostate cancer that has not responded to radiation therapy. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well prostatectomy works in treating patients with recurrent or persistent prostate cancer that has not responded to radiation therapy.
RATIONALE: Testosterone can stimulate the growth of prostate cancer cells. Hormone therapy using leuprolide and flutamide may fight prostate cancer by reducing the production of testosterone. It is not yet known whether receiving leuprolide and flutamide is more effective than receiving no further therapy. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of hormone therapy in treating patients who have stage I or stage II prostate cancer that is at high risk of recurrence and who have already undergone surgery.
This randomized phase II trial studies how well metformin hydrochloride and aspirin work in treating patients with hormone-dependent prostate cancer that has progressed after surgery or radiation therapy. Metformin hydrochloride and aspirin may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known whether giving metformin hydrochloride and aspirin together can slow the growth of prostate cancer.
This phase III trial tests two questions by two separate comparisons of therapies. The first question is whether enhanced therapy (apalutamide in combination with abiraterone + prednisone) added to standard of care (prostate radiation therapy and short term androgen deprivation) is more effective compared to standard of care alone in patients with prostate cancer who experience biochemical recurrence (a rise in the blood level of prostate specific antigen \[PSA\] after surgical removal of the prostate cancer). A second question tests treatment in patients with biochemical recurrence who show prostate cancer spreading outside the pelvis (metastasis) by positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. In these patients, the benefit of adding metastasis-directed radiation to enhanced therapy (apalutamide in combination with abiraterone + prednisone) is tested. Diagnostic procedures, such as PET, may help doctors look for cancer that has spread to the pelvis. Androgens are hormones that may cause the growth of prostate cancer cells. Apalutamide may help fight prostate cancer by blocking the use of androgens by the tumor cells. Metastasis-directed targeted radiation therapy uses high energy rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors that have spread. This trial may help doctors determine if using PET results to deliver more tailored treatment (i.e., adding apalutamide, with or without targeted radiation therapy, to standard of care treatment) works better than standard of care treatment alone in patients with biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer.
RATIONALE: Soy protein may help prevent prostate cancer recurrence in patients who have undergone surgery for prostate cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II/III trial is studying how well soy protein works and compares it to a placebo in preventing recurrent cancer in patients who have undergone surgery for stage II prostate cancer.
Flotufolastat F-18, sold under the brand name Posluma, is a radioactive diagnostic agent for use with positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for prostate cancer. The research is being done to study the capability of 18F-rhPSMA-7.3 (flotufolastat F-18) PET scan to detect prostate cancer when there are very low levels of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) following previous radical prostatectomy surgery.
The study designed is to evaluate the safety of Canady Helios™ Cold Plasma Scalpel (CHCPS) in patients with solid tumors with carcinomatosis scheduled to undergo surgical resection for cytoreduction. Patients with stage 4 resectable tumors as decided by a multidisciplinary disease management team may be included if the metastatic disease is non-synchronous (e.g. recurrent colorectal carcinoma with hepatic metastasis amenable for surgical resection).. Plasma is an ionized gas typically generated in high-temperature laboratory conditions. Plasma coagulators are currently used routinely as surgical tools with multiple applications that create temperatures between 37° C to 43°C and cause thermal injury. Earlier studies demonstrated the non-aggressive nature of cold plasma. As evidence accumulates, it is becoming clear that low-temperature cold plasma has an increasing role in biomedical applications.
This pilot clinical trial studies the side effects of recombinant EphB4-HSA fusion protein before surgery in treating patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder, prostate cancer, or kidney cancer. Recombinant EphB4-HSA fusion protein may block an enzyme needed for tumor cells to multiply and may also prevent the growth of new blood vessels that bring nutrients to the tumor. Giving recombinant EphB4-HSA fusion protein before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed.
The aim of this study is to test whether adding chemotherapy/cabazitaxel and hormonal/androgen deprivation therapy before surgical removal of your prostate would improve the outcome of salvage surgery for locally recurrent prostate cancer after the initial primary radiation therapy.
Our objective is to evaluate the clinical outcomes for the anatomic radical perineal prostatectomy (RPP) for the surgical management of prostate cancer. We will report the perioperative, oncologic, and functional outcomes in patients undergoing the radical perineal prostatectomy at our institution.
