Readiness Outcomes Affecting Return to Sport 2.0: An Intervention Feasibility & Pilot Study
Description

This study aims to determine the feasibility of implementing a mental skills training intervention for adolescent athletes who tear their ACL and undergo ACL reconstruction surgery alongside receiving standard-of-care clinical treatment. The study will also determine if the mental skills coaching program has any effect on the psychological readiness of patients to return to sport after undergoing surgery and postoperative recovery and rehabilitation. If feasible and if the mental skills training program shows promising effect on athletes' confidence in returning to sport, a large-scale clinical trial can be explored to assess the relationship between mental skills' impact on readiness to return to sport, which could in turn provide evidence on the benefits of integrating mental skills directly into standard clinical care.

Description

The primary purpose of this prospective study is to determine when adolescent athletes with idiopathic scoliosis are able to return to sports participation after posterior spinal fusion surgery.

Effect of Patient Resilience on Return to Sport Post ACL Reconstruction Surgery
Description

Despite the large majority of patients that undergo ACL reconstruction reporting successful outcomes in regard to tests of knee function, only about 2/3 return to their prior level or athletic activity after surgery. A large amount of research has been conducted investigating the effects of psychological factors on return to sports after ACL reconstruction; however, the specific role of resilience has yet to be solely analyzed. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in patient resilience on their return to sports after surgery.

Clinical Assessment of Sports Exertion
Description

The Clinical Assessment for Sports Exertion (CASE) addresses the physical performance of athletes by quantifying physiological and symptomatic responses to dynamic exertion. The CASE is highly sport-specific as it tests multiple body positions that mimic requirements typical of individual and contact sports activities including soccer, gymnastics, cheerleading, swimming, and basketball. It was developed by clinicians at the Baylor Scott and White Sports Concussion Program in an effort to identify specific system impairments in athletes who were unable to successfully demonstrate readiness for return to play protocols. Like the other published forms of concussion exertion testing described above, the CASE is a provocative exercise test that may also prove to be useful in making informed return-to-play decisions based upon the athlete's symptomatology.

Adding Neurocognitive Component to Balance Test
Description

By introducing BlazePods as a neurocognitive addition to the YBT, this study aims to determine whether this addition impacts balance performance and/or reach distances between the operative and non-operative limbs of patients recovering from ACL reconstruction. Findings will contribute to optimizing return-to-sport protocols and enhancing late-stage rehabilitation program designs.

Sport Cord Test Following ACL Reconstruction
Description

The primary purpose of this study is to determine the interrater reliability and validity of the Sportcord Test as a measure of physical performance following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. A secondary purpose is to systematically track subjective and objective outcomes on patients following ACL reconstruction to help identify differences between those who have subsequent knee problems and those who do not. The study hypotheses are the following: 1) The Sportcord Test will provide a valid and reliable measure of functional performance following ACL reconstruction. 2) Patients who have subsequent knee problems in the 12 month study period will exhibit different scores on clinical special tests compared to those who do not.

Open Versus Arthroscopic Stabilization of Shoulder Instability with Subcritical Bone Loss: the OASIS Trial
Description

This clinical trial will investigate the effects of three surgical procedures and the associated post-operative rehabilitation to optimize time to return to military duty, work and sports, and patient-reported physical function for military personnel and civilians with traumatic anterior shoulder instability and 10-20% glenoid bone loss.
