Using Calcium Hydroxylapatite to Treat Gum Recession and Tooth Hypersensitivity
Description

Study Purpose and Objectives: This study will utilize calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) to treat recession and hypersensitivity of the gums. The objectives of the study are: 1. to study the quality and quantity of changes in attached gums resulting from Radiesse(+) injections in the gingival tissue; 2. to determine the efficacy of Radiesse(+) in the reduction of tooth hypersensitivy caused by exposed roots relating to gingival recession; 3. to determine the efficacy of Radiesse(+) in the treatment of mild and moderate gingival recession.

Test on a New Experimental Mouth Rinse for Relieving Tooth Sensitivity
Description

This study is for people with sensitive teeth and involves going to the dentist for 4 visits over 6 weeks. At each visit the dentist will look at the mouth, teeth, tongue and gums of participants, and check for sensitive teeth. During the first 2 weeks, participants will brush their teeth 2 times a day with the fluoride toothpaste provided. Then, if they qualify to continue in the study, participants will be assigned to one of two treatment groups for the last 4 weeks. Both groups will use assigned toothpaste currently sold on the market. Both groups will each have an investigative mouth rinse to use as well. Participants will have an equal chance of being assigned to any one of the three groups. For the next 4 weeks, participants will use their assigned products according to the directions provided. At Visit 1, participants will be supervised while they brush their teeth to ensure they understand the directions. They will also have supervised use of the products at Visit 2. Results will be analyzed to assess whether the mouthwashes help to reduce tooth sensitivity during the study.

During the first 2 weeks, participants will brush their teeth two times a day with the fluoride toothpaste provided. For the next 4 weeks, you will brush with your assigned toothpaste and rinse with your assigned mouthwash if assigned to the mouthwash group. A dentist will look at your mouth, teeth, tongue and gums and check for sensitive teeth. The investigators will see if the mouthwash helps to reduce tooth sensitivity during the study.

Tooth Sensitivity Relief by Two Mouthrinses
Description

This study is for people with sensitive teeth and involves going to the dentist for 6 visits over 8 weeks. During the first 2 weeks, everyone will just brush their teeth two times a day with the fluoride toothpaste provided. Then you will be assigned to a mouthwash group if you qualify to continue in the study. Two groups will get mouthwash with a certain amount of an experimental ingredient and one group will get a mouthwash with no experimental ingredients. You will have an equal chance of being assigned to any one of the three groups. For the next 6 weeks, you will rinse with your assigned mouthwash after brushing. A dentist will look at your mouth, teeth, tongue and gums and check for sensitive teeth. The investigators will see if the mouthwash helps to reduce tooth sensitivity during the study.

Efficacy of CPP-ACP on Bleaching Related Sensitivity
Description

Objective: The purpose of this randomized controlled split-mouth clinical trial was to evaluate the effectiveness of MI paste in reducing sensitivity associated vital bleaching. Methods: 45 subjects were randomly divided into two groups, based upon which arch received MI Paste. Group 1 bleached Maxillary arch, Group 2 bleached mandibular arch. Two weeks later subjects stopped bleaching the first arch and started second arch. Sensitivity was measured by VAS daily log scale for two weeks. Shade was taken with colorimeter and Classic Vita shade guide at baseline, immediate post-bleaching, and two weeks post-bleaching. Longitudinal sensitivity over the 14 days period of bleaching was summarized. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank test was used to compare summary measures.

In addition, the investigators will evaluate whether there is a difference in the Sensi-StopTM strip (Procter \& Gamble™) effectiveness when the product is placed by a dental professional compared to self-placement by the person with sensitive teeth. Lesion Progression After Icon Treatment in Young Adults
Description

This is a three year single site clinical evaluation of a FDA approved (510(k):K100062) lesion penetrating resin used to infiltrate and hamper progression of proximal carious lesions. The purpose of this study is to compare lesion progression infiltrated with (Icon, Hamburg, Germany) to a similar sized lesion in the same patient treated with a placebo. The study is designed as a randomized, controlled, prospective clinical trial with a three year follow-up evaluation period. The clinical site will enroll 150 subjects (in the age range of 19 years or older) with 2 study lesions. The patients will be evaluated at six time points over a period of 3 years. Lesion status and caries risk will be monitored at 6-month intervals, while radiographic evaluation will be conducted at 12-month intervals at 1-, 2- and 3-year recall visits.

The study is designed as a prospective, randomized, parallel arm, double blinded, pilot clinical trial.The primary objective is to evaluate the efficacy of Sensi-IP +NaF as compared to a NaF toothpaste in the reduction of dentin hypersensitivity in adult participants over 14 days. Study endpoints include Evaporative Air blast Stimuli (Schiff Airblast Sensitivity Score), Tactile Stimuli (Yeaple probe Assessment), Visual Analogue Scale Evaporative Stimuli and the occurrence of adverse events. The study will include 2 study arms: 1. Sodium fluoride toothpaste with Sensi IP (N=23) and 2. Sodium fluoride toothpaste (N=23). Total of 46 participants (ages 18-80 years) with at least one hypersensitive tooth in 2 different quadrants which are anterior to the molars will be enrolled.

Postoperative Hypersensitivity Randomized Comparative Effectiveness Research Trial
Description

Postoperative hypersensitivity (POH) is a problem for many patients as determined by the recent Practitioners Engaged in Applied Research and Learning (PEARL) study of POH following occlusal caries restoration. The objectives of this two-armed randomized comparative effectiveness research trial (RCERT) are to determine whether adding a resin modified glass ionomer liner (RMGI) reduces POH in dentin bonded Class I resin based composite (RBC) restorations, and to identify other factors (putative risk factors) that are associated with increased POH. The primary outcome of this study is the reduction/elimination of restoration POH as measured by clinical assessment (air stream) and patient-reports. Outcomes will be ascertained via the following specific aims: Specific Aim 1: To compare the reduction of hypersensitivity of study teeth by clinical measurement (air drying) and by patient-reported outcomes among the two treatment groups at three points in time: prior to restoration and at one and four weeks postrestoration. Specific Aim 2: To identify putative risk factors for POH (or factors associated with differences in POH) including: preoperative caries stage measured by the proposed American Dental Association (ADA) Caries Classification System (CCS), lesion depth as measured on the preoperative radiograph, dentin caries activity ranked on opening the lesion, preparation depth, and patient sleep bruxism status.

Efficacy and Safety Assessment of Experimental Bleaching Agents
Description

Tooth bleaching is widely used to treat the colors of teeth. This study compares the efficiency of two experimental bleaching gels, with and without nanoparticles, and with and without light activation versus two commercial bleaching products of low and high concentrations. The objective is to evaluate tooth color change, sensitivity, and patient satisfaction in patients with moderate yellowing of their teeth. Methods: This is a randomized controlled trial that will include 120 participants aged 18-65 years. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of 12 treatment groups: Gel A (with or without nanoparticles, with or without light), Gel B (with or without nanoparticles, with or without light), Whiteness HP 35% (with or without light) and Whiteness Automixx 6% (with or without light). The primary outcome is tooth color change, measured using a commercially-available equipment. Secondary outcomes will include tooth sensitivity and patient satisfaction. Randomization will be computer-generated. Results: The study is expected to show differences in color change between the experimental and commercial gels. Tooth sensitivity and patient satisfaction will be evaluated to determine the overall effectiveness and safety of the treatments. Conclusions: This trial will provide information into the whitening efficacy of two experimental gels compared to two widely used commercial products.
