Ultrasound Guided Serratus Anterior Plane Block in ED Patients with Rib Fractures
Description

The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effectiveness of the Serratus Anterior Plane Block in patients with rib fractures. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Determine if UG-SAPB results in an improved pain, incentive spirometry, and cough ability (PIC) score when compared to usual care over the first five hours. * Evaluate if UG-SAPB results in fewer opioid medications administered when compared to usual care over the first 24 hours. Participants will undergo the Serratus Anterior Plane. Researchers will compare this to usual care to see if this intervention improves pulmonary function and reduces opioid requirements for ED patients with rib fractures.

Ultrasound Guided Serratus Anterior Plane Block for Rib Fractures
Description

This study is a single center, randomized controlled trial examining the effect of serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) on pain, PIC scores and other clinical outcomes in emergency department patients with multiple rib fractures in comparison to the use of analgesic medication alone. Objectives 1. Compare SAPB performed in the ED setting to analgesic medication alone with regard to pain, respiratory status and PIC score of patients with multiple rib fractures. 2. Assess the safety and feasibility of performing ultrasound-guided SAPB in the ED. 3. Evaluate outcomes of patients receiving the SAPB in the ED including amount of analgesic medications used, level of care required, need for upgrading level of care, and length of stay.

Serratus Anterior Plane Block Combined With Transversus Thoracic Muscle Plane Block Versus Conventional Local Anesthetic Infiltration for SICD Implantation: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Description

This is a prospective randomized study. The aim is to investigate the efficacy of a combined SAPB with TTPB for perioperative pain control compared to the standard local anesthetic infiltration technique in adult patients undergoing SICD implantation. The hypothesis is that the combined plane block provides better pain control compared to the standard local infiltration technique.

Serratus Anterior Plane Block With and Without Adjuvants in Video-assisted Thoracoscopy
Description

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the addition of the serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) alone (30 mL of 0.25% bupivacaine) or plus Magnesium (150 mg of magnesium sulfate) or plus Magnesium + Buprenorphine (300 mcg) as adjuvants can improve post-operative pain in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.

This pilot study will prospectively compare continuous Erector Spinae Plane block (ESP) versus combination of continuous Erector Spinae Plane block and single shot Serratus Anterior Plane block for post-operative pain management in subjects undergoing primary thoracic surgery.

Serratus Anterior Plane Block for Improving Pain and Respiratory Function in Patients With Multiple Rib Fractures
Description

This is an observational study which will evaluate the efficacy of the serratus anterior plane block for treating pain and respiratory capacity in patients with multiple rib fractures. When resources are available for a SAPB to be performed, patients will receive this block in addition to traditional pain medications, while at other times, patients will receive traditional pain medications only.

Serratus Anterior Plane Block for Management of Post Thoracotomy Pain
Description

This is a single-center, randomized, prospective study evaluating the effect of serratus anterior plane block performed after induction of anesthesia, but before the start of surgery on postoperative opioid requirements. The hypothesis of the study is that serratus anterior plane blocks are relatively simple to perform, provide good postoperative analgesia, facilitate early tracheal extubation, and reduce the length of hospital stay after pediatric cardiac surgery through a thoracotomy.

Ultrasound-Guided Serratus Anterior Plane Block for Additional Pain Relief After Lung Surgery
Description

The purpose of this study is to see if an anesthesia technique called serratus anterior plane block may provide additional pain relief for the chest wall after lung surgery. The study will evaluate the effect the serratus anterior plane block technique has on the need for opioids after surgery,the level of pain during recovery, and other aspects of recovery, like whether the patient has nausea and their ability to breathe deeply. The effects of the serratus anterior plane block will be compared to the effects of an inactive (sham) block.

Pectoral Fascial Plane and Serratus Anterior Plane Blocks With Bupivacaine v. Liposomal Bupivacaine
Description

Patients will be randomized the day of surgery upon presentation to the operating room to either a treatment group (PECSII/SAP blocks with bupivacaine HCl plus liposomal bupivacaine) or a control group (PECSII/SAP blocks with bupivacaine HCl plus preservative free normal saline) using secure web-based randomization. Assignments will be based on computer-generated code. Clinicians will not be blinded to the intervention, but all outcomes will be assessed by research personnel who are blinded to the group assignment.

Optimal Injection Site for Serratus Anterior Plane Block in Reconstructive Breast Surgery
Description

The novel introduction of various chest wall blocks such as the Pecs I and II/modified Pecs blocks as well as the Serratus Anterior Plane Block have extended the application of perioperative regional anesthesia to provide analgesia for breast surgery. However, to our knowledge, there are no large studies that truly delineate the optimal injection site for the Serratus Anterior Plane Block.

Serratus Anterior Plane Block in Patients Undergoing Mastectomy
Description

This is a randomized, interventional prospective study. Patients (n=66) undergoing mastectomies with or without tissue expander will be randomized to receive a supra-serratus or sub-serratus regional plane block prior to surgery. The main effect to be measured is total opioid consumption 24 hours after the operation. Secondary endpoints include measuring a change between pre-and post-operative pain scores, patient satisfaction of pain control during first 24 hours after the operation, presence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, duration of sleep on first postoperative night, and block performance time and length of stay, between the two treatment arms.

HYPOTHESIS Serratus Anterior Muscle Plane Block (SPB) is as effective as thoracic paravertebral block (PVB) for acute pain control after unilateral mastectomies. SPECIFIC AIMS Primary aim: To evaluate the efficacy of SPB block vs thoracic PVB for acute pain control in patients undergoing unilateral mastectomy Secondary aim To compare the onset and duration of block and dermatomes blocked in both groups To compare the need of post-operative rescue analgesia in both groups. To compare the development of chronic incisional pain in both groups Functional outcome with respect to daily activities.
