Health Information Technology to Improve Bedtime Media Use in Children
Description

The objective of this study is to use health information technology to implement and evaluate a counseling recommendation for children who suffer from problematic sleep associated with bedtime media use. Participants will be randomized by clinic to be screened for basic sleep concerns and receive appropriate counseling, or to be screened for sleep concerns and media use, and receive appropriate counseling.

A Sleep Hygiene Intervention to Improve Sleep Quality in Urban, Latino Middle School Children - Phase 1
Description

Sleep is essential for children's daytime functioning and health. Poorer sleep hygiene can negatively affect sleep outcomes in children. Urban Latino children are at greater risk for poor sleep hygiene and poor quality sleep due to exposure to higher levels of urban and cultural stressors. This project aims to refine and test a novel school-based intervention to improve sleep hygiene and in turn, sleep quality in urban Latino middle school children. An existing sleep hygiene intervention that has been shown to improve sleep in urban children will be culturally and contextually tailored and has the potential to exert greater improvements in sleep hygiene and sleep outcomes for this high-risk group.

Impact of Beds for Kids Program on Child Sleep
Description

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of provision of a child bed through the Beds for Kids program on objectively measured child sleep, and on daily child behavioral functioning and caregiver functioning over a 14-day period for preschool-aged children.

Impact of Sleep Duration on Immune Balance in Urban Children With Asthma
Description

Urban children with asthma are at high risk for short sleep, due to an environment that jeopardizes both sleep and asthma management. Further, urban children with asthma suffer from altered immune balance, a key biological process contributing to individual differences in asthma morbidity and sleep health. In the proposed research, the researchers will examine the effects of shortened and recovery sleep on immune balance and associated changes in lung function in urban children with allergic asthma through an experimental design.
