This study expands and validates the pilot study NCT06381284. It is a fully remote, site-less, prospective, observational study enrolling adults in the United States (excluding U.S. territories) with undiagnosed neuromuscular symptoms. The primary objective is to determine the validity of a self-assessment tool in encouraging undiagnosed participants, recruited through a social media campaign, to seek medical evaluation for suspected myasthenia gravis (MG).
This feasibility pilot trial seeks to examine the feasibility and target engagement of a coping skills and psychoeducational intervention delivered via an automated conversational chatbot named SMILEY in reducing frequency and stress associated with online victimization among marginalized youth, including those who are Black, Hispanic, and LGBTQ+, and experiencing depression and online victimization. The primary inquiry of this study is whether SMILEY can enhance the safety and decrease stress levels in online environments for marginalized youth coping with depression and online victimization. Participants will engage with materials, including interactive web resources, to learn safe social media practices and provide coping skills for experiencing online victimization. These materials will cover topics such as managing online time, addressing negative comments, and fostering positive connections. Participants will interact with SMILEY at their own pace over 4 weeks. This interaction will provide information and guidance on dealing with online victimization and the associated stress.
There has been much interest in the potential role of social media (SM) use in driving a current mental health crisis among teens, with a dire need for evidence that goes beyond self-report. One important avenue is to understand the role of the brain in driving the effects of SM use on emotional health and vice versa. However, there is almost no research addressing these questions, largely due to a lack of tasks that can probe the neural correlates of modern SM use. The goal of this clinical trial is to develop and validate a new developmentally-appropriate and ecologically-valid functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and eyetracking task, the TeenBrainOnline (TBO) Task, that is more realistic and similar to modern SM platforms. Participants will be 50 teens (ages 13-17) with depressive symptoms who will complete the final version of TBO task during fMRI with eye-tracking, an older Chatroom Interact (CHAT-I) Task, daily surveys of SM use, and measures of depressive symptoms. Our goal is to show that the task works by: * Demonstrating that it activates expected regions of the brain and visual attention biases toward feedback cues. * Showing that brain and eyetracking (visual attention) activity on the task explain variability in depressive symptoms at baseline and three months later, and work better than similar indices from an older task. * Showing that brain and eyetracking (visual attention) activity on the task are associated with real-world measures of social media use collected during daily surveys. Specifically, The investigators expect that teens whose brain and eyetracking activity suggests they are more sensitive to feedback on SM will report a social evaluation orientation toward social media use in daily life, such as engaging a lot in social comparison, worrying about missing out, and caring about getting a lot of likes and comments. Participants will be asked to: * complete a 10-15 minute screening call to determine eligibility for the study * complete one 90 minute virtual study visit to complete questionnaires and prepare for the MRI visit (visit 1) * submit 24 photos to our study specific social media site * complete an (in person) MRI scan visit (\~4 hours), which consists of 2 tasks where they will interact with peers (visit 2) * complete \~5 minute smartphone surveys 3 times a day for 16 days, asking about their daily experiences online and emotional reactions. * complete 2 online questionnaires asynchronously 3 months after their scan date
This longitudinal study is designed to test bidirectional relationships between preteen girls' mental health and social media experiences. We will explore how pubertal development and experiences of rejection influence these relationships.
NORC/AmeriSpeak will recruit participants who meet the study criteria and invite them to complete a 15-minute survey. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of five conditions, with approximately 400 people in each condition, and will respond to various questions after viewing the study messaging. Once 2,000 participants complete the survey, the data will be de-identified and provided to the study team for analysis.
Brief Summary The purposes of this study are to develop and implement a peer-led intervention program on Instagram for promoting prescription opioid use management and fostering psychosocial skills among young adults who engage in non-medical use of prescription opioids in the United State. The specific aims of the study include: (1) To implement and test the feasibility of the 12-week peer-led intervention modules on Instagram among young adults who are randomly assigned to either receive the intervention (intervention group) or not receive the intervention (control group) Participants who are assigned to the intervention group will be paired with a peer leader and attend to peer-guided interactive modules on Instagram over 12 weeks. They will complete an online survey at 1st week and 12th week, as well as brief evening surveys every two days during the intervention. The control group will not take part in intervention activities but will complete an online survey at 1st week and 12th week.
This clinical trial tests the impact of a culturally-tailored home-based physical activity program on physical fitness in Hispanic or Latino/Latina adolescent and young adult (AYA) childhood cancer survivors. After treatment for cancer, some AYA survivors experience long-term effects from the cancer and its treatment including weight gain, fatigue and decreased physical fitness. Hispanic or Latino/Latina survivors may have a higher risk of these effects compared to non-Hispanics. Regular physical activity helps maintain healthy weight, energy levels and overall health. Participating in a culturally-tailored home-based physical activity program may help increase physical activity in Hispanic or Latino/Latina AYA childhood cancer survivors.
The primary goal of this interventional study is to explore whether 3 months of arts-based digital interventions can change the way in which teenagers (13-16 years of age) use social media and are affected by them. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Can we give teenagers new, stimulating, and more goal-oriented ways of using social media through arts-based digital trainings and active discussions around social media? * Can these arts-based digital interventions also help teenagers to overcome the negative consequences of social media overuse (such as depression, anxiety, and reduced attention and cognitive performance)? Secondarily, this study also aims to explore the brain and behavioral traits associated with these arts-based interventions to better understand how they work. Researchers will compare a music composition intervention with two other interventions: an active control intervention based on visual-arts instead of music (i.e., photography), and a passive approach to control for the mere pass of time. Participants will: * Complete a baseline and a post-intervention evaluation where researchers will obtain measures of cognitive performance (attention and executive functions, mainly), mood, mental health, brain structure and function, and social media usage and attitudes towards these platforms. * Complete weekly measures regarding their use of social media platforms and their mood. * Complete 3-month arts-based composition / edition intervention (based on music or visual-arts/photography), or the equivalent time with no intervention (passive control group). The motivation of this study was driven by the observation that, in recent years, there has been an increasing use of social media and digital devices in teenagers, while the scientific community still does not fully understand the effects of the overuse of these digital means and platforms. Moreover, some of the negative effects described to be associated with the passive overuse of social media tap on the same brain structures that are benefited by musical and artistic trainings. Hence, we thought it could be worth trying to use arts-based training to help teenagers compensate for or overcome the negative effects of social media at the neural, cognitive, mood and mental health levels. This study introduces novelty through three main aspects. Firstly, it employs a digital art creation approach that requires no classical art training, making it more accessible and less intimidating. Secondly, it incorporates commonly used digital devices (e.g., phones/tablets) and motivating environments into the learning process, integrating the development of new digital skills and the practice of critical thinking around the use of SM into normal classroom activities. Finally, the study employs a multi-methodological approach to explore the brain mechanisms underlying mental-health and cognitive changes resulting from arts-based interventions. Finally, we believe that conclusions from SMART will: * set the basis for developing preventive and therapeutic interventions for depression and anxiety in teenagers, * promote educational programs that provide optimal tools for adolescents to navigate social media in a healthy manner, and * inspire educational policy.

The main study objective is to evaluate the feasibility of a social media recruitment campaign tied to a participant reported symptom survey and self-administered physical assessment tool to influence undiagnosed participants to seek care for suspected Myasthenia Gravis (MG).
The investigators long-term goal is to reduce tobacco use and tobacco-related health disparities among SGM populations. The objective of Project SMART (Social Media Anti-Vaping Messages to Reduce ENDS Use Among Sexual and Gender Minority Teens) is to evaluate the effectiveness of an sexual gender minority (SGM) -tailored social media intervention to prevent vaping initiation among SGM youth ages 13-20 years. The investigators central hypothesis is that SGM-tailored anti-vaping social media messages will be more effective than existing non-tailored messages to prevent vaping initiation among SGM youth. The scientific premise for this work is based on principles of cultural tailoring in health communication for vulnerable populations, the Health Equity Promotion Model, and the Message Impact Framework. The investigators are developing and evaluating a social media intervention because SGM youth have a high rate of social media use and are more likely to go online for health information than non-SGM youth. Social media, moreover, are increasingly used for health promotion to address health disparities and well-being of SGM populations. The investigators will conduct rapid-cycle feedback with stakeholders including SGM organization leaders to provide input on the message design, testing, and intervention implementation to ensure feasibility and acceptability of the intervention.
This project will be the first to examine the efficacy of a text messaging intervention designed to recruit first-time fathers-to-be using social media across the U.S. to become involved during pregnancy through two months of postnatal age to support infant, mother, and father well-being.
The investigators will be randomizing 150 college student participants with high levels of social media use into either a 1) control condition (no intervention), a 2) mindfulness meditation cognitive intervention, or 3) a social media reduction + exercise replacement intervention. Participants complete intervention activities daily for one week. The investigators will collect self-report and behavioral measures of social media use and related psychological constructs at three time points: baseline, immediately after the intervention period, and one-week after the intervention period.
The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effects of social media use on e-cigarette use in young adults who use e-cigarettes. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Does reducing social media use change young adults' e-cigarette use? * Does reducing social media use change things such as young adults' mental health and what they see on social media? Participants will complete surveys and submit screenshots showing how much time they spend on social media. Researchers will compare young adults who reduce their social media use to young adults who use social media as usual, to see if their e-cigarette use differs.
This clinical trial is part of a series of brief interventions to reduce suicide risk in collaboration with the social media platform RallyPoint, a site specifically designed for U.S. servicemembers and veterans to connect with one another. In this RCT (Intervention 1: Peer Support), the investigators will test a psychoeducational intervention aimed at increasing peer responses to RallyPoint posts that a machine learning risk algorithm developed by the current team has identified for signs of distress (e.g., descriptions of suicidal thoughts and behaviors or other mental health concerns). In this intervention, the investigators will flag these distressed posts and prompt peers to reply to the posts by providing informational blurbs detailing helpful peer responses.
This clinical trial is part of a series of brief interventions to reduce suicide risk in collaboration with the social media platform RallyPoint, a site specifically designed for U.S. servicemembers and veterans to connect with one another. This RCT (Intervention 2: Stigma Reduction) is focused on decreasing the stigma associated with sharing one's personal experiences related to mental health on the RallyPoint site. Specifically, the investigators will test the effect of a psychoeducational intervention that will provide participants information on the potential benefits of self-disclosure.
This clinical trial is part of a series of brief interventions to reduce suicide risk in collaboration with the social media platform RallyPoint, a site specifically designed for U.S. servicemembers and veterans to connect with one another. In this RCT (Intervention 3: Professional Outreach), the investigators will test a psychoeducational intervention aimed at increasing users' likelihood of reaching out to mental health resources (e.g., suicide hotline) when experiencing distress.
The current study's goal is to determine if a one-week break from social media in all forms has a beneficial effect on people's attention, as measured by the Sustained Attention to Response Task, executive function as measured by the Stroop test, and well-being.
The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the feasibility of a social media intervention to support diabetes management in adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Adolescent participants will be randomized to receive diabetes education and peer support over Instagram or to usual outpatient diabetes care. Researchers will assess whether the social media intervention is feasible. In addition, the study team will also explore and compare changes in glucose levels and person-reported outcomes between the two groups.
The mental health of adolescents in the United States has seen a steep decline since 2011, roughly coinciding with the increasing popularity of social media and smartphones. But does social media have a causal impact on the mental health of adolescents or are concerns about the effect of social media on kids a form of public hysteria? In this study, the investigators will conduct the first field experiment in 11-14-year-olds to examine whether, how, and for whom social media harms mental health.
This study aims to compare the effectiveness of a Urogynecology Social Media Navigation Aid Kit (SNAK) and routine counseling in the treatment of women with newly diagnosed urinary incontinence. The study will conduct a randomized controlled trial on treatment-naïve patients seeking care for urinary incontinence. The research will have five aims: 1. evaluate the impact of SNAK on patients' self-efficacy in managing urinary incontinence symptoms 2. compare patient satisfaction with urinary incontinence treatment between SNAK and routine counseling groups 3. assess the impact of SNAK on urinary incontinence severity 4. evaluate the impact of SNAK on patients' quality of life 5. examine if there is an impact of SNAK on patients' treatment decision. Participants will be randomized to routine counseling alone versus routine counseling plus a SNAK. They will be given a baseline survey at their initial enrollment to the study. The investigators will follow up at a 3-month interval where they will be given a post-intervention survey.
This study seeks to evaluate the unique and synergistic efficacy of social media-specific personalized normative feedback targeting the reduction of alcohol use among heavy-drinking college students who post alcohol-related content on social media. Hypothesis: Alcohol personalized normative feedback, social media-specific personalized normative feedback, and the Alcohol personalized normative feedback+ social media-specific personalized normative feedback conditions will be more effective in reducing drinking than the attention control condition.
The long-term goal is to develop effective parenting strategies to facilitate optimal child development for mothers suffering with PPD symptoms. The overall objective for this application is to study whether this program combined with online depression treatment leads to more responsive parenting (target) and signals improved child language, socioemotional and cognitive development (outcomes) compared to depression treatment alone. Findings from this application can be used to inform a future study to test the effectiveness and implementation of this social media-based parenting program.
The MOV'D (Move Often eVery Day) intervention is a remotely-delivered, peer-supported intervention that delivers exercise snack (2-5 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity) and behavior change technique (BCT) videos to a private social media support group with the goal of interrupting prolonged sitting at work with MVPA minutes. The preliminary efficacy, feasibility, and acceptability trial will test the effects of MOV'D, a socially-supported, evidence-based behavior change technique educational and behavioral intervention to increase the number of active hours (an indirect measure of prolonged sitting bouts) (Hypothesis 1) and number of MVPA minutes (Hypothesis 2). This pilot will gather important estimates of the effect sizes, the variance, and covariance of the primary outcomes to calculate the sample size needed to power a larger fully powered RCT.
This study is to understand how the presentation of information on social media influences processing and recall of information, particularly in relation to modified risk tobacco products. Participants will see a social media site where either (a) the topic of discussion varies between each post or (b) posts on the same topic are grouped together. They will then be asked to recall information about the posts they saw on the site.
This study examines how supportive care clinic patients have made decisions or had discussions about how their caregivers or family should manage their social media account(s) after death. Collecting information on the use of social media and preferences will allow for a better understanding of patient's needs in the dying process and may identify populations in need of education, identify a possible source of anxiety and stress, and allow for an informed discussion of digital legacy.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate if social media enhanced education (SME) will reduce total number of treatment days defined as summation of days of subsequent hospital admission, emergency room visits, and clinic visits, reduce missed school days, reduce total costs from a health system perspective, have increased effect with increased social media engagement, have increased effect in participants with both caregiver and patient (combined) with social media accounts, compared to participants where only the patient or only the caregiver uses social media (single),have increased patient satisfaction in the asthma education received and to obtain the experience and data needed to refine SME to be able to expand this platform for other chronic medical conditions with high healthcare utilization including pediatric diabetes, epilepsy, and sickle cell disease in children with asthma.
The purpose of the study is to develop and test social media interventions to help young people increase well-being and reduce risky behaviors. The study will help us learn about ways to deliver wellness information in a way that is appealing and helpful to young people that use social media. Eligible participants will be enrolled after baseline survey is completed. Participants will be involved with the secret social media group they are assigned to for 8 weeks. In addition, surveys will be completed at various times during and after the 8 week social media group.
The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary evidence of potential efficacy of a social-media based intervention to reduce risk factors for eating disorders in college women.
