The Evaluating Predictors \& Interventions in Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction(SOD) study (EPISOD) is a randomized sham-controlled study of biliary and pancreatic sphincterotomy as treatment for patients with pain after cholecystectomy fitting the criteria for sphincter of Oddi dysfunction type III.

Duloxetine in Patients With Suspected Functional Pancreatic/Biliary Pain (Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction)
Description

Open-label single center study of duloxetine in patients with SOD who have failed to respond to the standard treatments. This protocol is designed to explore the tolerability and efficacy of Duloxetine in the management of patients with known or suspected Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD).

Virtual Reality in SOD
Description

Patients with classic type-3 Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction have chronic debilitating pain not amenable to pharmacologic or endoscopic therapy. Previous studies have shown benefits of virtual reality (VR) for pain management through immersive three-dimensional (3D) multisensory experiences, but only in short-term inpatient settings. The impact of VR for chronic pain in patients with SOD III in an outpatient setting is being evaluated in this pilot study.

QST Study: Predicting Treatment Response in Chronic Pancreatitis Using Quantitative Sensory Testing
Description

Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) is a novel investigative technique used in other pain conditions to evaluate patterns of chronic pain, and in this study will be used to elucidate pain patterns in patients with Chronic Pancreatitis (CP). QST uses a specific series of standardized stimulations to map the pain system. QST has the potential to change and improve the treatment paradigm for patients with CP and may eventually be able to predict response to invasive CP therapies.

ERCP in Idiopathic Recurrent Acute Pancreatitis
Description

The therapeutic impact of ERCP with sphincterotomy in the management of patients with idiopathic recurrent acute pancreatitis (RAP) needs further study. The investigators conducted a single center, feasibility, randomized trial to determine 1) the role of pancreatic manometry in predicting future episodes of RAP and 2) differences in the efficacy of no, biliary (BES) or pancreatobiliary (dual) endoscopic sphincterotomy (DES).
