Investigating the Effects of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment on Stress Management in Medical Students
Description

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate stress biomarkers, subjective stress levels, and cognitive function in medical students. The main question\[s\] it aims to answer are: Does regular osteopathic manipulative treatment affect stress in medical students? Does regular osteopathic manipulative treatment affect cognitive function in medical students? Participants will be split into two groups, control and treatment, and undergo a designated protocol for six weeks. The treatment protocol will include weekly sessions of three OMT techniques: paraspinal inhibition, rib raising, and condylar decompression. Concurrently, participants' salivary cortisol levels will be collected weekly and analyzed using an Invitrogen ELISA Immunoassay Kit. Additionally, cognitive function will be assessed weekly via Lumosity, while stress levels are gauged using the College Student Stress Scale (CSSS) survey. Researchers will compare one cohort of medical students who receive weekly OMT and another cohort of medical students who have weekly check-ins without OMT to see if OMT can affect changes in stress biomarkers, subjective stress scales, and cognitive function.

The Sequestration of Holistic Stress Management Techniques for Adults
Description

This remote study is intended to assist the population with access to cost-effective pastoral counseling for stress management in the workplace and every day life. In awareness of a support system, Bachelor's age 30 and older requirements were waived to accept the Bachelor's age 21-29 for verified relatives of an individual Humanitarian Veterans Association member; however, without BLOOD-QUANTUM to an individual Humanitarian Veterans Association member, the preferred Bachelor age is 30 years old and up. Holistic medicine (also known as Holistic Education) for adults doesn't replace nor substitute clinical diagnosis and medical treatment.

Description

This is a pilot randomized waitlist control trial assessing if the feasibility of using a mobile mindfulness app to treat emotional distress and burnout amongst nurses taking care of COVID-19 patients. This trial will help inform the study team if dissemination the intervention to a large number of nurses in a short time period is feasible, and if the intervention has evidence of a clinical impact.

Description

Job stress and burnout are significant problems affecting physical health, emotional well-being, job performance, and retention of nurses. Enhanced Stress Resilience Training (ESRT) is a theory-driven, evidence-based intervention to increase stress resilience and decrease burnout among clinicians. This study is a randomized waitlist-controlled trial to examine the efficacy, feasibility, and long-term sustainability of the 5-week ESRT intervention to improve psychosocial and occupational well-being of critical care nurses.

Advanced Practice Provider Intervention Study to Promote Wellness

Fostering Optimal Regulation of Emotion for Prevention of Secondary Trauma (FOREST)
Description

FOREST is a positive emotion skills program designed to target mental health and coping needs for frontline violence prevention workers at UCAN. Ten skills are taught over a period of nine months during existing meetings and wellness activities, as well as in online modules in UCAN's Learning Management System (LMS). Through infusing the FOREST skills throughout UCAN, we hope to inspire organizational culture change that will emphasize the importance of wellbeing and enhance resilience, therefore reducing burnout and turnover.

Caregiver Self-Management of Stress
Description

Unpaid informal caregivers (CGs), such as family and friends, who are also employed may be at significant risk of experiencing burden and stress. This may be especially true for CGs who provide care to care recipients coping with behavioral health issues associated with conditions like depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Stress not only increases the CG's risk of workplace difficulties, illness, and poor quality of life, but also impacts the CG's ability to provide care for the care recipient. The primary aim of this randomized study is to examine the impact of a novel intervention, Caregiver SOS (Self-Management of Stress), on CG distress and work performance and productivity. Caregiver SOS is delivered by phone and offers evidence-based, work and CG role performance-focused self-management counseling to employed CGs. Study findings will ultimately shed light on whether a program that specifically addresses caregiving-work balance is effective in improving CGs' wellbeing and work functioning and the quality of Veterans' care.

Digital Support Intervention on Newly Licensed Nurses
Description

Brief Description of the Study: Text messages will be sent to participants and responses will be surveyed to ascertain if using a social, digital intervention can influence NLNs' (newly licensed nurses') stress, resiliency, perceived sense of social support, and/or the intention to stay at current jobs. Newly licensed nurses (within their first year of hire) will be asked to participate. A series of four text messages will be sent to all study participants (experimental and control groups) by the PI every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday (M, W, F, S) at 1pm for six weeks, for a total of 24 different texts for each group. Participants will fill out surveys before the study begins, at week 3 and at the end of the study (week 6).The control group will receive medical facts. Texts sent to the experimental group will be based on SSBC nurturant support messages and are intended to decrease stress intention to leave (ITL), increase resilience, and perceived sense of support. The SSBC nurturant support texts are comprised of three themes of support: emotional, network, and esteem. The experimental group's supportive text messages were created by the PI and require content validation. A gatekeeper at your facility will be asked to send an email to "Experts" (MSN educators) and ask them to complete the validation survey using a Qualtrics Survey Platform then the PI will place ratings into a table and calculate the results. There are 3 other facilities enrolled in this study: University California, San Diego, El Centro Medical Center, and Pioneer Hospital (all located in southern California).

Selah Trial of Stress Interventions for Clergy: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Daily Examen, and Stress Inoculation
Description

Certain populations may be particularly susceptible to the adverse effects of chronic stress, particularly chronic work-related stress. One such population is that of clergy doing ministry work. Clergy who are interested in stress reduction will choose one of three interventions: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, the Daily Examen, or a set of stress inoculation and breathing exercises called Stress Proofing. The study investigators will examine changes in heart rate variability and self-reported stress symptoms over time among clergy who have participated in one of the three interventions, compared to clergy who have not yet received one of the interventions. The aim of this study is to determine trends in stress outcomes for each of the three interventions. The investigators hypothesize that participation in each intervention will be associated with an improvement in stress outcomes compared to those who have not yet received an intervention.

30 Day Mobile App Programs for Stress Management in Customer Service Representatives
Description

Burnout and stress at work can make individuals less productive, which can carry over into their personal and at-home lives and negatively impact health. Customer service representatives are under especially high strain as they are exposed to significant interpersonal conflict at work, both with frustrated customers and with pressure from coworkers and supervisors. However, recent research has found that different stress management interventions (e.g., mindfulness meditation training) can increase job satisfaction and work productivity. However, individuals with significant stress might find these training program classes difficult to attend with their busy schedules. Newer interventions have focused on smartphone mobile applications as an effective delivery system for these training programs. Thus, the purpose of this project is to conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing two different stress management smartphone app programs to evaluate effects on job-related outcomes, functional and structural brain outcomes, and biology.

The Effect of a Therapy Dog Activity on Employees' Stress, Mood, and Job Satisfaction and Commitment
Description

The goal of the current study is to determine if participating in a therapy dog activity is associated with changes in perceived stress, mood, and job satisfaction and commitment. A secondary goal is to explore a potential dose effect of multiple treatments as well as control for novelty effect.

Three Good Things 2020: a Brief Text-based Wellness Intervention
Description

This trial will be open to all Michigan Medicine Department of Family Medicine faculty, resident, or staff. The intervention will consist of asking participants the "3 Good Things" based on positive psychology theory. Participants will be asked to list three things that went well that day and to consider their role in these outcomes. Pre and post surveys will be completed to evaluate this intervention. At the end of the trial the study team will also select a limited number of entries from participants to share some of the "good things" which people listed. These will be edited to ensure writer anonymity and participants will be informed of this plan in the study introduction.

Stress Free UCR: The Impact of 8 Weeks of Headspace on Stress in a Heterogeneous University Employee Cohort
Description

The aim of this study is to test the effects of a digital meditation intervention in a sample of high stress UCR employees. We will randomize UCR employees to 8-weeks of either a digital mindfulness intervention (using the commercially available application Headspace) or a waitlist control condition. Participants assigned to the intervention group will be asked to download and use the Headspace mobile application for 10 minutes per day for 8 weeks. They will be asked to fill out short (no longer than 30 minutes long) questionnaires at baseline, week 4, week 8 (post intervention), and a 4-month follow up period. Participants who are randomized to the digital meditation intervention will also take part in a 1-year follow up. All activities will take place online (via computer or smartphone), and on the participants' own time.

The objective of this study is to determine whether a mindfulness coaching program was efficacious at reducing work stress, improving psychological and physical health outcomes, and improving work outcomes. The target population is employed adults (18 years and older) working in the industries of media, consulting, and healthcare.

Testing the Effectiveness of Mainstream Management Tools to Increase Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction and Decrease Turnover Among Peer Providers
Description

The role of peer support specialists (PSS) has burgeoned in the mental health field. Peer support specialists are individuals with a psychiatric condition who are in recovery and who are employed to provide various kinds of tangible and other supports to individuals with psychiatric conditions, generally in public mental health programs. Partially because of the newness of this role, PSS experience confusion about their role and tasks as well as conflict with other mental health providers who are uncertain about how to utilize PSS effectively in services. This project was designed to bring a coaching service to PSS to assist them to address challenges in their job. The investigators will conduct a randomized control trial to evaluate a novel coaching, Coaching and Advancement for Peer Providers (CAPP). Our hypotheses are that individuals participating in the CAPP intervention will experience a reduction in burnout, role confusion, and intention to leave their job or the field. Participants in CAPP will also experience an increase in job satisfaction, role clarity and organizational commitment.

The aim of the present study is to test the effects of a digital meditation intervention and/or a healthy eating intervention in a sample of UCSF employees with overweight and obesity (BMI\>=25kg/m2) who report mild to moderate stress. We will randomize UCSF employees to 8-weeks of a digital meditation intervention (using the commercially available application, Headspace), a healthy eating intervention, a digital meditation+healthy eating intervention, or a waitlist control condition.
