The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy and repeatability of an individually validated prototype autorefractor designed to be mounted on a surgical microscope.
The purpose of this study is to determine if one of the genes that can cause glaucoma, called myocilin, are associated with larger eye pressure and blood pressure changes in sitting and lying down positions without glaucoma drug treatment and with glaucoma drug treatment with a combination medication called Cosopt® (Merck \& Co., Inc.).
In this pilot study, the investigator team aims to evaluate whether standardized prone positioning compared to usual positioning improves moderate to severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) rates as assessed at 36 weeks post conceptional age in very low birth weight preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
This study seeks to determine in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients specific improvements in pulmonary function which may occur when an infant is ventilated in the prone as compared to the supine position. Modest improvement in oxygen has been reported to occur with prone positioning, but the exact etiology for this change is not clear. A special incubator designed as an integrated care system allows routine care and the measurement of both patient and ventilator breaths during mechanical ventilation. This study will utilize this device to evaluate in NICU ventilated patients whether specific changes in pulmonary function accompany position changes, and whether these are correlated to a change in pulmonary gas exchange.
During clinical anesthesia, it is astonishing that CO2 monitoring consists mainly of end-tidal PCO2 to confirm endotracheal intubation and to estimate ventilation, and O2 monitoring consists of a single PO2 measurement to detect a hypoxic gas mixture. Better understanding of how O2 and CO2 kinetics monitoring can define systems pathophysiology will greatly enhance safety in anesthesia by detecting critical events such as abrupt decrease in cardiac output (Q.T) by vena-caval compression during abdominal surgery, occurrence of CO2 pulmonary embolism during laparoscopy, rising tissue O2 consumption (V.O2) during light anesthesia, and onset of anaerobic metabolism (V.CO2 is disproportionately higher than V.O2).
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether intraoperative reverse Trendelenburg positioning decreases postoperative hypoxemia and perioperative pulmonary aspiration rates.
Respiratory Distress is a frequent clinical diagnosis of babies delivered by elective Caesarean birth. There has been no study comparing the efficacy of immediately positioning a newly born infant prone vs. supine for the first 30 60 seconds of life after delivery by Caesarean birth.
