The goal of this randomized control study is to see if virtual reality headsets (VRHS) are useful in women undergoing surgical pregnancy termination. The main questions it aims to answer are: Do VRHS decrease the pain associated with surgical pregnancy termination Participants will wear the VRHS during the surgery and take a pain survey before and after the procedure. The pain assessment will be compared to placebo headset which will be randomly assigned.
Medication abortion is a way of ending a pregnancy using pills. The current FDA-approved regimen for medication abortion uses mifepristone and misoprostol. This study is testing whether a different medication, atorvastatin, followed by misoprostol, can be used to end a pregnancy. Participants at 35-49 days of pregnancy will receive an oral dose of atorvastatin (80 mg) to swallow at the clinic as well as taking atorvastatin (80 mg) daily for six additional days, with a return to clinic on day 8 after initial visit to take a dose of misoprostol (800 mcg). Additionally, follow-up visits will occur on approximately days 3, 8 and 11 for a clinician to perform an ultrasound to see if the abortion is complete.
Study to determine if a user-friendly medical abortion regimen using letrozole and misoprostol is safe and acceptable.
The study titled, Manual Versus Electric Vacuum Aspiration for Pregnancy Termination Between 10-14 weeks: A Randomized Trial, is a randomized trial to compare procedure times for manual and electric vacuum aspiration for surgical abortion between 10 0/7 and 13 6/7 weeks gestation. Women presenting for surgical abortion between 10 0/7 and 13 6/7 weeks gestation will be randomized to either undergo manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) or electric vacuum aspiration (EVA). The investigators hypothesize that operative times will be increased when using manual vacuum aspiration, as compared to electric vacuum aspiration, for surgical abortion performed in the late first trimester (10 0/7 and-13 6/7 weeks).
The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy and acceptability of a regimen of 200 mg mifepristone (Zacafemyl), followed 24-48 hours later by 800 mcg of buccal misoprostol.

Induction termination of pregnancy (second trimester abortion) has a median time of 14 hours from the start of medication (misoprostol) to expulsion of the fetus. The objective of this study is to evaluate a method of 'priming' on the length of induction termination of pregnancy. "Priming" refers to the use of medication to ready the cervix and uterus so that the uterus is more sensitive to medication and contracts more effectively, and also refers to softening of the cervix so that there is less resistance to dilation. Priming is used extensively before induction of labor for term pregnancy and is also used extensively before surgical abortion in second trimester. We would like to add priming the evening before induction to the usual treatment and evaluate whether the length of the induction process is shortened. Women are admitted to the hospital in the morning to start misoprostol medication, and unless expulsion occurs within 8-10 hours, need to stay overnight. The study design is to give the priming dose 12 hours before admission. The outcome of interest is the induction time from the first dose on misoprostol in the hospital to expulsion of the fetus. This study aims to assess whether the use of misoprostol as a priming agent would be beneficial with women who undergo induction termination of pregnancy.
Mid-second trimester medical terminations of pregnancy require admission to the hospital for the length of time it takes a woman to abort. The current protocol at BMC uses intra-amniotic digoxin injection the day prior to admission. The following day, the woman is admitted and given sequential doses of misoprostol until delivery occurs. The average length of time between the first dose of misoprostol and delivery is 12 hours, requiring most women to stay overnight. This is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded study designed to determine whether adding mifepristone significantly reduces the induction interval time (time between starting the first misoprostol and delivery) required for a second trimester termination.
The purpose of this study is to compare two methods of pregnancy termination on the time to delivery in the second trimester.

This is a prospective cohort study exploring a broadened use of ulipristal acetate as a cervical preparation agent for second trimester surgical abortion. Specifically, this pilot study will test the feasibility of using ulipristal as a pharmacologic cervical preparation with adjunct misoprostol prior to surgical abortion.

The primary aim of this study is to assess the acceptability of home-use mifepristone for termination of pregnancy among women who choose it and their providers. The investigators' secondary aims are to assess rates of follow-up, adherence, efficacy, complications, lost productivity, and to estimate the minimum proportion of women who choose home-use over clinic use of mifepristone.
With sensitive urine pregnancy tests, women are now able to confirm very early pregnancies. However, approximately one third of abortion facilities do not offer abortions at less than six weeks of pregnancy. Providers may be concerned that they will be unable to identify products of conception (POCs) in uterine aspirates after early abortion and about the time, cost and risk associated with following serum hCG levels when completed abortion cannot be confirmed by gross inspection. Many providers believe that manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) causes less destruction of pregnancy tissue and therefore may increase the likelihood of identifying POCs on gross inspection. No published reports specifically compare MVA to electric vacuum aspiration (EVA) for the detection of complete products of conception and none compare MVA and EVA at less than 6 weeks of pregnancy. We, the investigators, propose to conduct a randomized controlled trial comparing the sensitivity of MVA to EVA for the detection of completed abortion in 500 women with pregnancies of less than 6 weeks gestation at a large inner city family planning center. We will measure positive identification of POCs on gross inspection in patients subsequently shown to have completed abortions. We hypothesize that the rate of true positive detection of POCs will be higher in dilation and curettage (D\&C) using MVA than EVA.
