Undiagnosed Diabetes in a Dental Setting
Description

In an ongoing study new dental patients are screened to determine their risk of having undiagnosed pre-diabetes or diabetes based on risk factors readily known by the patient and signs of gum disease. Investigators further seek to assess if a post-identification intervention leads to a greater likelihood of study participants identified as potentially pre-diabetic or diabetic visiting their physician regarding their screening blood test results, and to improved health outcomes.

Effects of Pulsatile Intravenous Insulin Delivery on Diabetic Neuropathy in pATIENTS (Pts) With Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
Description

Diabetic neuropathy is a progressive complication causing serious problems in 25-40% of diabetic patients. Anecdotal reports have indicated improvement with pulsatile IV insulin therapy in affected patients otherwise resistant to all conventional therapies. Significant complications produce painful peripheral dysesthesias, loss of sensation and gastroparesis. This study is designed to test the effectiveness of pulsatile IV insulin therapy on diabetic neuropathy.

Description

Diabetic Retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in the world. Previous studies have documented beneficial effects of physiologic administration of pulsatile insulin on a variety of diabetic complications such as nephropathy, hypertension, glycemic control, etc. Similar pathogenetic mechanisms have been postulated for diabetic retinal disease. This study examines the effect of pulsatile insulin on patients with varying stages of diabetic retinal disease.

Effect Pulsatile IV Insulin Therapy on the Quality of Life in Patients With Types 1 and 2 Diabetes
Description

The purpose of this study is to determine if restoring normal metabolic function in patients with either type I or type II diabetes can improve the impact of the consequences of diabetic complications on the overall quality of life of diabetic patients. Patients are treated once a week with pulsatile intravenous insulin therapy mimicking normal insulin secretion. A 44 item questionnaire is completed prior to the start of the treatment and quarterly thereafter with detailed analysis performed to measure progress and outcomes.
