Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate Versus Triamcinolone Injection For Hip Osteoarthritis

This is a single site, randomized single blinded, two arm study researching the effects of bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) versus Triamcinolone in patients with hip osteoarthritis. The aims and hypothesis are as follows: Specific Aim 1: Evaluate the change in pain and functional scores of a single bone marrow aspirate injection in comparison to triamcinolone in patients with hip osteoarthritis through validated patient reported outcomes scores at baseline to 12 months (6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months). Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that triamcinolone and BMAC groups will have pain reduction after each respective intervention. The changes with triamcinolone will be noticeable on the short term. The BMAC changes will take longer to have an effect but will longer duration. The investigators hypothesize that at 6 months and 1 year participants receiving BMAC will have better scores reported on the WOMAC compared to the triamcinolone injection and better than prior to injection. Specific Aim 2: Evaluate the change of bone marrow aspirate injection in comparison to triamcinolone in participant's performance on the 6 minute walk test from baseline to 12 months (6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months). Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that there will be higher walking distances on the 6 minute walk test in the participants receiving a BMAC injection in comparison to triamcinolone starting at the 3 months follow-up time. Specific Aim 3: Quantify and correlate cell characterization with patient reported outcomes score. Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that there will be better patient reported outcomes in patients who have a higher concentration of mesenchymal stem cells injected. The investigators will enroll 50 patients into each arm. Bone marrow will be aspirated then subsequently concentrated using the Emcyte PureBMC kit. The investigators will test the BMAC viability, rapid sterility, endotoxin, platelet concentration, volume, and total nucleated cell counts prior to injecting. The BMAC will be utilized as a hip injection into the affected hip of the patient. Patients receiving the Triamcinolone will undergo a sham bone needling to simulate the aspiration to keep patients blinded. Both groups will receive their injections under ultrasound guidance.

Clindamycin and Triamcinolone in People With Glioblastoma to Prevent Skin-Related Side Effects of Tumor Treating Fields

The participants are being treated with Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) for malignant glioma, and this type of treatment may cause skin-related side effects. This study will test whether using clindamycin and triamcinolone topical lotions can prevent skin-related side effects of TTFields.

Relationship to Dose of Triamcinolone Acetonide and Methylyprednisolone to Improvement in Subacromial Bursitis

It is currently unknown whether or not the improvement in pain and function related to a "steroid shot" for shoulder pain due to subacromial bursitis is important. Laser-Ranibizumab-Triamcinolone for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy

The purpose of the study is to find out if treatment with an intravitreal injection of triamcinolone or an intravitreal injection of ranibizumab can prevent loss of vision caused by panretinal photocoagulation treatment. At the present time, it is not known whether intravitreal steroid or anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections are beneficial in preventing vision loss after panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) treatment. It is possible that one or both of the types of injections will prevent vision loss after PRP treatment. However, it is not known whether the benefits of the injections will outweigh the risks. It is possible that because of side effects, the injections may not be as good as laser alone in treating the diabetic retinopathy.

Laser-Ranibizumab-Triamcinolone for Diabetic Macular Edema

The purpose of the study is to find out which is a better treatment for diabetic macular edema (DME): laser alone, laser combined with an intravitreal injection of triamcinolone, laser combined with an intravitreal injection of ranibizumab, or intravitreal injection of ranibizumab alone. At the present time, it is not known whether intravitreal steroid or anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections, with or without laser treatment, are better than just laser by itself. It is possible that one or both of the types of injections, with or without laser treatment, will improve vision more often than will laser without injections. However, even if better vision outcomes are seen with injections, side effects may be more of a problem with the injections than with laser. Therefore, this study is conducted to find out whether the benefits of the injections will outweigh the risks.

Sub-Tenon Triamcinolone in the Prevention of Radiation-Induced Macular Edema

Melanoma is the most common primary tumour which occurs inside the eye. For over 20-years, it has been possible, in many cases, to use local delivery of radiation to the eye to treat this type of tumour, avoiding the need to surgically remove the affected eye. This treatment, however, is often complicated by radiation-induced loss of vision, months or years after treatment. The aim of this research project is to investigate the potential prevention of radiation complications in the eye by giving anti-inflammatory medication (a long-acting steroid) in the form of a local injection around the eye at the time of treatment, and at 4-months and 8-months following treatment. This medication (named 'triamcinolone') has been successfully used to treat similar complications of diabetic eye disease, for example, and has a good safety profile. The rationale of this study is to attempt to preserve vision, in addition to preserving the eye, in patients affected by this eye tumour, and therefore preserve quality of life for these patients.
