Vitamin D and Immune Mechanisms of Hypertension in Type 2 Diabetics

Study Overview

This clinical trial focuses on testing the efficacy of different digital interventions to promote re-engagement in cancer-related long-term follow-up care for adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors of childhood cancer.

Description

This trial will evaluate whether a particular type of circulating white blood cell, monocytes, from type 2 diabetics with high blood pressure and vitamin D deficiency vs. sufficiency will induce hormones that increase blood pressure.

Participation Criteria

Ages Eligible for Study:25 Years to 80 Years
Sexes Eligible for Study:ALL

Standard Ages:ADULT, OLDER_ADULT
Inclusion CriteriaExclusion Criteria
  1. * Type 2 diabetes (T2DM)
  2. * Age: 25-80 years old
  3. * Vitamin 25(OH)D3 levels \<20 or \>30 ng/ml.
  4. * HbA1c: 5.5%-9.5%
  5. * Blood Pressure: \<160/100 mm Hg on BP lowering medications and
  6. * Blood Pressure: \>120/80 to 160/100 mmHg without BP lowering medications
  1. * Recent weight loss of more than 5% within 3 months prior to screening
  2. * Current Pregnancy
  3. * Hypercalcemia
  4. * Previous heart attack and stroke
  5. * Heart failure
  6. * Atrial fibrillation
  7. * Heavy alcohol consumption
  8. * Extreme diets (Atkins, South Beach)
  9. * Chronic renal failure: stage 4 or worse
  10. * \>2 + proteinuria on urine sample
  11. * Chronic diseases known to affect immunity
